Book The Idolatry of the Church of Rome Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Idolatry of the Church of Rome Classic Reprint written by A. S. Thelwall and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-20 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Idolatry of the Church of Rome To say that Protestantism is a merely negative system, shows great ignorance, even of the meaning of language. To disbelieve, or to deny, may be a mere negation: but no man protests against anything, until he apprehends it to be contrary to, or inconsistent with, some great and important principle which lie maintains and loves. To be a Protestant, therefore, it is meces sary (if we attach any meaning to that word) to know so much of the Romish system, and to be so far established in the knowledge of Scriptural and Evangelical truth, as to understand and feel, that the value and importance of the latter lays us under a solemn obligation to oppose and de nounce the former. No man, therefore, can be really and truly a Protestant - can be worthy of the name - unless he has some knowledge (sound and correct, so far as it goes) of the Romish controversy. Book Life Inside the Church of Rome Classic Reprint

Download or read book Life Inside the Church of Rome Classic Reprint written by Francis Clare Cusack and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-12 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Life Inside the Church of Rome His book will be characterised by plain speaking, and contain a record of plain facts. I hesitated long and thought much before I began this work, because I knew how great its importance would be, and I did not forget that I shall have to answer to God for what I have written. I know that all the treachery and deceit of which I have been made the subject is the common, ordinary practice of the Church of Rome; and if my sufferings have been great, and if the treatment which I have received has been cruel, it has simply been because I was at the mercy of a power which knows no mercy, and which makes persecution a dogma of her Church. As I shall have occasion to mention my autobio graphy several times in the course of this work, I may at once refer the reader to the end of this volume for particulars of its contents. It may be well to state here that any one who reads Roman Catholic lives of Roman Catholic canonized saints, will find in them ample evidence of the persecuting spirit of the Roman Catholic Church. Every one of thosesaints whom the Roman Church now honours so highly, was in his or her lifetime made the subject of the bitterest opposition, and the victim of the most cruel persecution. Rome hated her own saints while they were living, but canonised them when they were dead. Rome need not boast of the good works which have been done in her Church, because they have been accomplished, for the most part, not because of the help of the Church, but in spite of its opposition. Would to God that the eyes of all mankind could be Opened to see Rome as she is! It has the power in many countries to trample on and crush the weak, because it Hatters and bribes the strong to act as its ally in evil, until the strong also become weak and then they, too, learn what are the tender mercies of this professedly Christian Church. Book The Church of Rome Is the Enemy of the Holy Virgin and of Jesus Christ Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Church of Rome Is the Enemy of the Holy Virgin and of Jesus Christ Classic Reprint written by Charles Chiniquy and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-25 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Church of Rome Is the Enemy of the Holy Virgin and of Jesus Christ Far from honouring the Holy Virgin, in giv ing her titles which belong only to Jesus, they have insulted her, and loaded her with shame and grief, if we may use such expressions. To-day, without doubt, she enjoys in heaven, the happiness that God promises to those who love him; and can only have one thought and one desire, that Jesus alone may be recognized, blessed and adored, as the only hope of the sinner - the only gate of heaven - the only salvation of the world the only foundation of our hope and of our faith and our only intercessor in heaven. The more one studies the tendencies of the Church of Rome, the more he is shocked with the skill and formidable perseverance with which she drags back the world to the idolatry of former times. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Intolerance of the Church of Rome It was a remark of the late Mr. Cecil's, that "the system of Popery was Satan's masterpiece." The observation will commend itself to the judgment of every enlightened and candid man, who sits down to examine the great apostasy. The further a man of this character pursues his inquiries, the more will he wonder that such a system should have succeeded in palming itself upon the world for Christianity. Nor will any hypothesis solve this mystery, but that which assumes the insidious and potent agency of the arch-apostate, both in fabricating the mighty cheat, and in giving it currency. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Double Doctrine of the Church of Rome The Church blessed the methods em ployed by those who really loved and served her; and all such would be considered not only permissible but laudable. What then was to become of the moral code, if ecclesiastical and moral duty clashed? The first is law, the second habit, was the reply. The moral habit is helpful doubtless to primitive simple folk, but it is dead and lifeless in itself, and often crushes the spirit. No great work was ever done by narrow moralists; for with that rule of life, we neither grow nor accomplish.
