Book Asymptotic Theory of Supersonic Viscous Gas Flows

Download or read book Asymptotic Theory of Supersonic Viscous Gas Flows written by Vladimir Neyland and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2008-02-06 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book in English devoted to the latest developments in fluid mechanics and aerodynamics. Written by the leading authors in the field, based at the renowned Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute in Moscow, it deals with viscous gas flow problems that arise from supersonic flows. These complex problems are central to the work of researchers and engineers dealing with new aircraft and turbomachinery development (jet engines, compressors and other turbine equipment). The book presents the latest asymptotical models, simplified Navier-Stokes equations and viscous-inviscid interaction theroies and will be of critical interest to researchers, engineers, academics and advanced graduate students in the areas of fluid mechanics, compressible flows, aerodynamics and aircraft design, applied mathematics and computational fluid dynamics. The first book in English to cover the latest methodology for incopressible flow analysis of high speed aerodynamics, an essential topic for those working on new generation aircraft and turbomachinery Authors are internationally recognised as the leading figures in the field Includes a chapter introducing asymptotical methods to enable advanced level students to use the book

Book ACCELERATION OF A HYPERSONIC BOUNDARY LAYER APPROACHING A CORNER

Download or read book ACCELERATION OF A HYPERSONIC BOUNDARY LAYER APPROACHING A CORNER written by GEORGE ROBERT OLSSON and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An asymptotic description of the acceleration of a laminar hypersonic boundary layer approaching a sharp corner is obtained. The description assumes small interaction with the outer inviscid flow. Viscous forces are neglected except in a thin sublayer. The initial part of the expansion takes place over a distance O(M sub e differential), where M sub e is the external Mach number, and differential is the boundary-layer thickness. Here the transverse pressure gradient is small, and a solution can be obtained analytically. Within a distance O(differential) from the corner, the effect of streamline curvature is essential, and a numerical solution is obtained by the method of integral relations for a single strip. The solution for surface pressure is compared with experimental results for a particular case, and an approximate velocity profile at the corner is calculated. Possibilities for improving the accuracy of the calculation, both by refining the numerical procedure and by including higher order effects, are considered. (Author).

Book Hypersonic Viscous Interaction on a Slender Body of Revolution with Surface Mass Transfer

Download or read book Hypersonic Viscous Interaction on a Slender Body of Revolution with Surface Mass Transfer written by Ting Yi Li and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytical formulation is presented of the problem of hypersonic viscous interaction on a very slender body of revolution with a thick boundary layer and mass transfer. Particular attention is directed to the establishment of the mathematical restrictions necessary to ensure the existence of similar solutions of the laminary boundary-layer equations for this class of problems. Yasuhara's analysis is extended to include surface mass transfer and binary mixture effects. It is shown that when the boundary-layer thickness is of the same order of magnitude as the characteristic body dimension, rigorous similarity is possible only for three-quarter-power-law bodies. This is in agreement with Yasuhara's earlier conclusions. Similar solutions to the boundary-layer growth equations exist when the transverse curvature expression is a function of the similarity variable. The criterion for the existence of similar solutions for the problem of hypersonic viscous interaction is that there must be a definite relationship between body surface shape and surface injection velocity.
