Book The Hydrodynamics and Stability Control Tandem Propeller Submarine Phase Ii

Download or read book The Hydrodynamics and Stability Control Tandem Propeller Submarine Phase Ii written by E. Schroeder and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrodynamic and stability and control character istics are investigated for a novel submarine configuration employing tandem, large hub-to-tip diameter ratio propellers, the blades of which can be pitched both collectively and cyclicly. Earlier analyses, using combined blade element and momentum theory to describe the forces and moments produced by the propellers, are refined and extended to include the effect of cyclic pitch on propeller-induced inflow. A preliminary analysis of shrouded propeller hydrodynamics is included. Stability and control is investigated for Tandem Propeller Submarine (TPS) operation over the forward speed range from 0 to 40 ft/sec with both propellers thrusting. Low-speed oper ation is also investigated with one propeller thrusting and one counter-thrusting. Automatic control techniques for improving the stability and control characteristics of the TPS are pre sented. (Author).

Book HYDRODYNAMICS AND STABILITY AND CONTROL OF A TANDEM PROPELLER SUBMARINE

Download or read book HYDRODYNAMICS AND STABILITY AND CONTROL OF A TANDEM PROPELLER SUBMARINE written by and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrodynamic and stability and control characteristics are investigated for a novel submarine configuration employing tandem, large hub-to-diameter ratio propellers whose blades are pitched collectively and cyclicly. Stability coefficients for the hull and the propeller are derived. Expressions for the control forces and moments generated by the propellers are developed and the perturbation equations of motion are used to analyze the controlled dynamic of the submarine. An analysis of the motions in the vertical plane indicates that the submarine can be stabilized at high speeds by automatic control of collective and cyclic pitch and that reasonable maneuverability can be obtained.

Book HYDRODYNAMICS AND STABILITY AND CONTROL OF A TANDEM PROPELLER SUBMARINE EQUIPMENT DESIGN FOR A TANDEM PROPELLER SUBMARINE FREE RUNNING MODEL

Download or read book HYDRODYNAMICS AND STABILITY AND CONTROL OF A TANDEM PROPELLER SUBMARINE EQUIPMENT DESIGN FOR A TANDEM PROPELLER SUBMARINE FREE RUNNING MODEL written by and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report contains information on the design, installation, and interconnections of equipment used in the freerunning model test program. Emphasis is placed on describing those portions of the system designed and assembled by CAL for these specific tests and for which information is not elsewhere available. Where possible, reference is made to prior publications for descriptions of equipment which was supplied with the model (e. g., the propeller and blade actuator servomechanisms) or which was used in unmodified form for remote control demonstrations (e. g., the Conalog). Certain changes in the supplied equipment, as used in earlier captive tests of the model, were made for compatibility with units introduced into the system for free-running tests and these changes are noted where applicable.

Book On the Stability and Manual Controllability of the Tandem Propeller Submarine

Download or read book On the Stability and Manual Controllability of the Tandem Propeller Submarine written by R. C. McLane and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manual controllability of a six-degree-of-free dom vehicle was invted. Study, analysis, and experimental testing were used to demonstrate controllability and to determine requirements for control inputs, information display, and con trol coupling (and decoupling) when the vehicle is a tandem-propeller submarine. A control station mockup, including a six-degree-of-freeddom input control and a contact analog display (with quickened perspective tracking symbol), was com bined with an analog computer simulation of a tendem-propeller submarine to provide real-time tests of controllability performance using naive male subjects. Book Submarine Hydrodynamics

Download or read book Submarine Hydrodynamics written by Martin Renilson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-10 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book adopts a practical approach and presents recent research together with applications in real submarine design and operation. Topics covered include hydrostatics, manoeuvring, resistance and propulsion of submarines. The author briefly reviews basic concepts in ship hydrodynamics and goes on to show how they are applied to submarines, including a look at the use of physical model experiments. The issues associated with manoeuvring in both the horizontal and vertical planes are explained, and readers will discover suggested criteria for stability, along with rudder and hydroplane effectiveness. The book includes a section on appendage design which includes information on sail design, different arrangements of bow planes and alternative stern configurations. Other themes explored in this book include hydro-acoustic performance, the components of resistance and the effect of hull shape. Readers will value the author’s applied experience as well as the empirical expressions that are presented for use at the preliminary design stage. A wide range of state-of-the-art material is included, and there are over fifty references to recent publications in the field. Intended for advanced students and professionals working in the specialised field of submarine hydrodynamics, this book brings theoretical and practical knowledge together in one comprehensive work that is particularly valuable to the submarine hydrodynamicist.
