Explorations by Simon McGillivray to the Northwest Territory, to Fort Simpson in 1840, and Fort Nepowiwin in 1850 are documented in v. 12. Documents dealing with exploration and settlement of Virginia include the first book of William Strachey's Historie of travaile into Virginia Britannia in v. 11, and Journal and relation of a new discovery in West Virginia (v. 13). Vols. 14-16 concern the shooting of an Army officer, Sgt. Wylde, by the Kainah Indian, "Charcoal", on the Blood Reserve, in Alberta, Canada in 1896, and include an extract from the 1897 report on the killing by Indian agent, James Wilson. Vol. 17 is Robert Campbell's Discovery and exploration of the Youcon (Pelly) River.
