Book The Horseman Who Came from the Sea

Download or read book The Horseman Who Came from the Sea written by Jeff Turner and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2023-12-20 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On November 11, 1918, in a railroad car outside Compiegne, France, the guns on the Western Front fell silent and the first World War was declared over. Proclaimed by many historians as the Great War, or the War to End All Wars, the price to be paid for peace at the time was steep and left behind a horrific trail of suffering and death. Soldiers returning home discovered much had changed since their deployment. Indeed, a different America awaited them. The nation was still reeling from the Spanish Flu, a flurry of racial riots and labor disputes punctuated civilian life, and the Great Depression caused profound economic collapse. A decade later, the Second World War would begin. In the midst of such turbulence, runaway Henry Cameron finds a home at a remote Vermont horse farm. He soon discovers a true passion for working with horses and learning the craft of horsemanship from a retired calvary officer. When the calvary officer passes away and bequeaths his entire estate to Henry, the young man is faced with rebuilding the horse farm. His efforts are sculpted by those in his life: a protective pair of caretakers, a wounded World War One soldier, a corrupt sheriff, a gifted horse trainer, and a bitter and revengeful uncle. Each would come to shape the destiny of the horseman Henry Cameron.

He reconnects with Sam Steele, an old acquaintance and police officer, to assist in a hunt for a man wanted for murder. During the hunt, Jack meets a roaming cowboy named Jim Spencer. This book is third in a series, following The Black Bull of Ardalba (Mercier 2002), and The Fiery Chariot (Mercier 2003). Each book describes complete, separate adventures in magic Ardalba. Raiders from the Sea describes Sea Raiders threatening Maeve's subjects in a distant part of her kingdom if she will not pay them tribute. Breeon, leader of the fisher folk, brings the bad news to Ardalba. If Maeve refuses to pay, the Raiders' leader, Croomloch of the Crooked Tooth, threatens to destroy all her kingdom. How does the Queen respond to this? The children travel with the Queen's champion to give her answer to the Raiders. They meet Breeon's son, Lorca, on their way, badly wounded by the Raiders. Roisin helps him with her First Aid skills. Brona uses his belief in Other World magic to save his life. When Croomloch kidnaps the Queen's son, sending him out in a tiny coracle to where the mysterious Isle of the Blest, just visible on the horizon, will lure him ever seaward and away from the Land of Erin, the children seek help from the Other World, from Mannanán Mac Lir, King of Oceans and Lord of Headlands. Does he help? Do they succeed? Or does Croomloch gain his way? On their journey the children learn faithfulness, resourcefulness and courage. This book gives an engrossing and satisfying read. Its research into Celtic dress, jewellery, weapons, cooking methods, dwellings, and feasting protocols of the time, give it a satisfying authenticity for children of all ages.
