Book Kindergarten Stories for the Sunday School and Home Classic Reprint

Download or read book Kindergarten Stories for the Sunday School and Home Classic Reprint written by Laura Ella Cragin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-25 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Kindergarten Stories for the Sunday School and Home The spirit of reverence is often destroyed by the gestures which are introduced with the songs. Miss Beard, in her pamphlet entitled Music in the Prim ary Sunday School, emphasizes the fact that ges tures, as a rule, detract from, rather than add to, the helpfulness of the songs. In an introductory chapter to her book, The Kindergarten Sunday School, she offers many helpful suggestions regarding the music in the Kindergarten. In singing, though the words are of supreme im portance and should not only be such as to impress the desired truth, but also should be so simple as to come easily within the child's comprehension, the musical setting is likewise essential. Unfortunately, there is still a lack of good Sunday School music and for my stories I have frequently been obliged to suggest songs for the sake of the words, though the music was unsatisfactory. Too many songs should not be given, as it is bet ter to have a few thoroughly learned than many only partially committed. Though new songs have some times been suggested ou successive Sundays, it has been intended that a choice should be made from them, not that all should be used. In order to prevent self-consciousness, it is rarely wise to ask individual children to sing or speak. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Kindergarten Teaching at Home As this little manual is meant to deal only with the methods of the instruction of children, not with their education as a whole, religion and religious doctrine are beyond its scope. Their omission, therefore, must not be taken to imply that to the mind of the writers they are unimportant. On the contrary, they are to them the very foundation of all education and all instruction, the beginning and the end of all that makes the worth of human life. And they would urge that in giving religious in struction, at least as much pains should be taken to study and apply the best methods as are taken in other subjects. If the story of Cinderella as given in Chapter I is worth bestowing care on, not less but much more care is wor1b giving to (e. G) 'any Old or New Testament story that is to be told. Book Kindergarten at Home

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Kindergarten at Home: A Kindergarten Course for the Individual Child at Home A child who has reached the age of four or five seems to demand some kind of busy work and almost any makeshift is usually resorted to in order to provide occupation for him. More often than not, such occupa tion takes the form of instruction in his A, B, C's, long before he is ready or fitted for it; but, as Froebel says, The A, B, C of things must precede the A, B, C of words, and the kindergarten exactly fills this need, providing instead of haphazard work and play, system atic training of the child's powers and faculties.* AS the successful man is one who does things, so also is the successful child one who does things. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Home Study Course of Mother`s Kindergarten School I received your message, and you may judge by my quick reply how interested I am in the subject about which you asked so many questions, namely, the Kindergarten gifts and their value. It is very unfortunate that you have never seen them; have never felt the wonderful possibilities they contained when you Opened them, not only the first time, but every time; nor felt a deep-rooted passion to make something and to continue making something until your energies were exhausted. But you will wonder what these remark able little things are, to be able to create such feelings, and I will endeavor to tell you, at the same time answering, to the best of my ability, your several questions. There are thirteen gifts in all, but I am only going to tell you about the first six, because five of them are building gifts, and that is what your child wants most of all. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Childhood's Morning: For Kindergarten Use in Sunday School and Home Why, how does this happen? Hasn't each one two hands? Or, has some one three? Let us count again. How many children are there? Yes, ten Then some one has only one hand. All two hands? Well, did you all hold up your two hands? Ah, no! Henry held up only one; this accounts for it. So there are really twenty hands in the room, twice as many as there are children; and if you count my two, then there will be how many? Yes, two more than twenty, - twenty-two. Just look at your hands. What wonderful things they are! How soft and tender and warm [here pass around, taking some of the little hands in your own What beautiful nails with the little white half-moon at the bottom! Are the nails of any use? Yes; they protect the fingers which have to do very hard work. If there were no nails at the ends how many hard knocks and sharp cuts the tender esh would get! Bend your finger slowly, one finger at a time, very slowly; now shut the hand; now Open it and see what a curious thing it is. What can this little hand do? Think of something. Yes, it can use a knife, it can write with a pencil or piece Of chalk, it can paint beautiful pictures, it can use a hammer, it sews with a fine needle and makes such even little stitches And when it is larger and stronger, like a man's, it may build huge engines and high bridges and great mills and the tall church spires; or it may run over the keys of the piano so nimbly that you can hardly see the fingers as they y. But does the little hand ever do wrong? Can you think of any wrong things it does? Yes, sometimes it strikes sometimes it takes things which do not belong to it; sometimes it is very unclean. Could your dear little hand do these things? About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
