Book On the Flow of a Compressible Fluid by the Hodograph Method

Download or read book On the Flow of a Compressible Fluid by the Hodograph Method written by I. E. Garrick and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: Elementary basic solutions of the equations of motion of a compressible fluid in the hodograph variables are developed and used to provide a basis for comparison, in the form of velocity correction formulas, of corresponding compressible and incompressible flows. The known approximate results of Chaplygin, von Kármán and Tsien, Temple and Yarwood, and Prandtl and Glauert are unified by means of the analysis of the present paper. Two new types of approximations, obtained from basic solutions, are introduced; they possess certain desirable features of the other approximations and appear preferable as a basis for extrapolation into the range of high stream Mach numbers and large disturbances to the main stream. Tables and figures giving velocity and pressure-coefficient correction factors are included in order to facilitate the practical application of the results.

Book excerpt: Through the previous three editions, Handbook of Differential Equations has proven an invaluable reference for anyone working within the field of mathematics, including academics, students, scientists, and professional engineers. The book is a compilation of methods for solving and approximating differential equations. These include the most widely applicable methods for solving and approximating differential equations, as well as numerous methods. Topics include methods for ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations, stochastic differential equations, and systems of such equations. Included for nearly every method are: The types of equations to which the method is applicable The idea behind the method The procedure for carrying out the method At least one simple example of the method Any cautions that should be exercised Notes for more advanced users The fourth edition includes corrections, many supplied by readers, as well as many new methods and techniques. These new and corrected entries make necessary improvements in this edition.

Book Mathematical Theory of Compressible Fluid Flow

Download or read book Mathematical Theory of Compressible Fluid Flow written by Richard Von Mises and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical Theory of Compressible Fluid Flow covers the conceptual and mathematical aspects of theory of compressible fluid flow. This five-chapter book specifically tackles the role of thermodynamics in the mechanics of compressible fluids. This text begins with a discussion on the general theory of characteristics of compressible fluid with its application. This topic is followed by a presentation of equations delineating the role of thermodynamics in compressible fluid mechanics. The discussion then shifts to the theory of shocks as asymptotic phenomena, which is set within the context of rational mechanics. The remaining two chapters is a thorough description of the hodograph method. These chapters provide a comparison of the modern integration theories. The features, characteristics, and application of transonic flow are also explored. This book is an ideal advanced textbook for both graduate students and research workers.

Book Hodograph relativistic equations of plane flows

Download or read book Hodograph relativistic equations of plane flows written by Bartolomeo Todeschini and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Various forms of hodograph equations for relativistic irrotational steady plane flows are worked out. The transformation from the hodograph to the physical plane is studied. Elementary solutions of these equations are found. An approximate hodograph equation for relativistic transonic flows is determined. (Author).

Book Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Partial Differential Equations written by Phoolan Prasad and published by New Age International. This book was released on 1985 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a basic introductory course in partial differential equations, in which theory and applications are interrelated and developed side by side. Emphasis is on proofs, which are not only mathematically rigorous, but also constructive, where the structure and properties of the solution are investigated in detail. The authors feel that it is no longer necessary to follow the tradition of introducing the subject by deriving various partial differential equations of continuum mechanics and theoretical physics. Therefore, the subject has been introduced by mathematical analysis of the simplest, yet one of the most useful (from the point of view of applications), class of partial differential equations, namely the equations of first order, for which existence, uniqueness and stability of the solution of the relevant problem (Cauchy problem) is easy to discuss. Throughout the book, attempt has been made to introduce the important ideas from relatively simple cases, some times by referring to physical processes, and then extending them to more general systems.
