Book The Ho Living in a World of Plenty

Download or read book The Ho Living in a World of Plenty written by Eva Reichel and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2020-08-10 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is set in the anthropologically much-neglected multi-ethnic interior of Highland Middle India. It is the result of fieldwork done over a period of more than a decade among the Ho, an indigenous community of approximately one million people, who have shared cultural norms and the space of the hilly region of the Chota Nagpur Plateau with other aboriginal (adivasi) and artisan communities for ages. The book explores the structured tapestry of Ho people’s relations and interrelatedness within their culture-specific sociocosmic universe ensuring their social reproduction in the present and affording them the means for and the awareness of living in a world of plenty. This world of abundance – with the Ho as its conceptual centre – includes the Ho’s dead, their complex spirit world and supreme deity, and their tribal and nontribal fellow humans, and it manifests itself in manifold facets of their lives: socially, ritually, economically, and linguistically. "This is an important piece of work. The ethnographic details in it are invaluable. The fieldwork is superb. What comes across so magnificently is that unique quality of the author's human and emotional contact and shared understanding with the people." MICHAEL YORKE: University College, London; Upside Films

  • Author : Major Gregory T. Banner
  • Publisher : Pickle Partners Publishing
  • Release : 2014-08-15
  • ISBN : 1782896929
  • Pages : 97 pages

Download or read book War For The Ho Chi Minh Trail written by Major Gregory T. Banner and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-15 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper studies the lines of communications (the Ho Chi Minh Trail) which went from North to South Vietnam, through Laos, during the Second Indochina War. The purpose of this paper is to study the proposal that the United States, during the Vietnam War, should have used ground forces in Laos to block these routes. In providing background information, this study examines the nature of the Ho Chi Minh Trail, political and strategic considerations, and US military actions which were applied against the trail network. Studying the military feasibility of an interdiction effort on the ground, this study finds that the US was physically capable of mounting an operation into Laos to block the Ho Chi Minh Trail. The finding of this study is, however, that such a move would not by itself have provided a winning solution to the war. Additionally, such an attack into Laos would have had serious adverse consequences for that country and US desires for the region. The conclusion of this study is that in this case (the Second Indochina War) a ground interdiction of enemy LOCs would not have been a productive course of action.

Book The Silence that Binds Us

Maybelline is a multifaceted narrator whose drive to right wrongs and stand up to injustice deserves applause. Ho illuminates both activism and mental health in marginalized communities, showing that even a bright, young achiever can experience depression without anyone knowing.”—Booklist "A powerful, hopeful YA debut. May’s journey through personal and familial grief is poignant and questions of power and privilege are explored with nuance that will spark conversation among teen readers." —School Library Journal “This sensitive novel does an impressive balancing act, examining mental illness and its stigma among Asian Americans while weaving in themes of racism and grief. The overarching messages—listening with empathy, and seeking help—ring loud and clear.” —Horn Book Joanna Ho, New York Times bestselling author of Eyes That Kiss in the Corners, has written an exquisite, heart-rending debut young adult novel that will inspire all to speak truth to power. Maybelline Chen isn’t the Chinese Taiwanese American daughter her mother expects her to be. May prefers hoodies over dresses and wants to become a writer. When asked, her mom can’t come up with one specific reason for why she's proud of her only daughter. May’s beloved brother, Danny, on the other hand, has just been admitted to Princeton. But Danny secretly struggles with depression, and when he dies by suicide, May's world is shattered. In the aftermath, racist accusations are hurled against May's parents for putting too much “pressure” on him. May’s father tells her to keep her head down. Instead, May challenges these ugly stereotypes through her writing. Yet the consequences of speaking out run much deeper than anyone could foresee. Who gets to tell our stories, and who gets silenced? It’s up to May to take back the narrative. Joanna Ho masterfully explores timely themes of mental health, racism, and classism. Book The Book of Ho oponopono

Download or read book The Book of Ho oponopono written by Luc Bodin and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2016-03-17 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A simple practice to heal your past and cleanse negative memories to live a more peaceful and harmonious life • Details how to apply Ho'oponopono to deal with traumatic past events, destructive thought patterns, family dynamics, daily annoyances, or any other disagreeable event in your life, from traffic jams to relationship break-ups • Draws on the new science of epigenetics and quantum physics to explain how Ho'oponopono works • Explains how the trauma of past events can cloud your perceptions and reveals how to break free from the weight of your memories Based on an ancestral Hawaiian shamanic ritual, the healing practice of Ho'oponopono teaches you to cleanse your consciousness of negative memories, unconscious fears, and dysfunctional programming and grant yourself forgiveness, peace, and love. The process is deceptively simple--first you must recognize your own responsibility for creating the events in your life, then you are ready to apply the mantra of Ho'oponopono: I’m sorry, Forgive me, Thank you, I love you. Repeated several times over a dedicated interval, the negativity is replaced with inner peace, love, and harmony--and, as the stories in this book show, sometimes even miracles take place. In this step-by-step guide, the authors explain how to apply Ho'oponopono to traumatic past events, destructive thought patterns, family dynamics, daily annoyances, or any other disagreeable event in your life, from traffic jams to relationship break-ups. Drawing on quantum physics and epigenetics, they explore how Ho'oponopono works--how thoughts and consciousness can affect the expression of your DNA, the materialization of your goals, and the behavior of those around you. They explain how negative thought patterns and memories unconsciously guide your life and draw more negativity to you, perpetuating the cycle of bad events and clouding your recollection of the past. By apologizing to yourself, your memory, and the event in question, you can forgive yourself, heal your memories, and cleanse your perceptions. By reconciling with yourself, you open your heart to love for your experiences, yourself, and others and bring harmony to your mind, body, and the world around you.

Download or read book The Little Ho Ho Book written by Ron D. Drain and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2002-07-04 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ho! Ho! Ho! Happy Holidays!! Once again, welcome to this year's edition of The Little Ho! Ho! Book. As was the case with the first volume, this edition's royalties are also earmarked to benefit the Alzheimer's Association. All those wonderful people who unselfishly dedicated their time and talents to Volume 2 deserve every ounce of credit for its success. My thanks and ongoing appreciation goes out to each and every one of them. The devastating condition of Alzheimer's is still an unfortunate and prevalent factor in our aging population. Because of this sad reality, T.L.H.H.B. is more about public awareness than it is about total dollars generated. If this small publication can touch only one or two individuals who might not have realized the full impact that Alzheimer's holds for our society then, without question, all of the work has been worth it. Volume 2 has a slightly different theme than its predecessor. Whereas Volume 1 dealt with Memories, Past and Present, of the Holidays, this edition embraces all of those humorous (and sometimes frustrating) situations that revolve around Pets and Animals. Volume 2 is a compilation of sorts. On one hand it is a grouping of some of the favorite "Pet/Animal" columns that were published in the weekly humor column And...More, Later. But it is the creative and original artwork that was dedicated to this publication that makes it so unique. Once again, on behalf of everyone who contributed their energies to this endeavor...our "Thanks", our well wishes, and our hopes for a Happy 2002 Holiday Season.
