Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to Going Wireless" quickly established itself as the essential guide to mobile technology in South Africa. Going Mobile starts where Wireless left off and shows how the vision for the future is becoming a reality today. Wireless talked about the future high-speed wireless technology called WiMax, and already WiMax services are being offered commercially. The future is rushing up on us so fast that the time for a new edition of the Hitchhiker's Guide is now. As in Wireless, we ask the critical questions: What does it all mean? Where is it all going? How do ordinary people tap into this communication revolution? Here is a guide that once again catches the wave of interest and activity, that taps into the buzz, and also sets the mobile agenda for ordinary people and businesses throughout South Africa.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A field manual on contextualizing cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and risks to connected cars through penetration testing and risk assessment Hacking Connected Cars deconstructs the tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) used to hack into connected cars and autonomous vehicles to help you identify and mitigate vulnerabilities affecting cyber-physical vehicles. Written by a veteran of risk management and penetration testing of IoT devices and connected cars, this book provides a detailed account of how to perform penetration testing, threat modeling, and risk assessments of telematics control units and infotainment systems. This book demonstrates how vulnerabilities in wireless networking, Bluetooth, and GSM can be exploited to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability of connected cars. Passenger vehicles have experienced a massive increase in connectivity over the past five years, and the trend will only continue to grow with the expansion of The Internet of Things and increasing consumer demand for always-on connectivity. Manufacturers and OEMs need the ability to push updates without requiring service visits, but this leaves the vehicle’s systems open to attack. This book examines the issues in depth, providing cutting-edge preventative tactics that security practitioners, researchers, and vendors can use to keep connected cars safe without sacrificing connectivity. Perform penetration testing of infotainment systems and telematics control units through a step-by-step methodical guide Analyze risk levels surrounding vulnerabilities and threats that impact confidentiality, integrity, and availability Conduct penetration testing using the same tactics, techniques, and procedures used by hackers From relatively small features such as automatic parallel parking, to completely autonomous self-driving cars—all connected systems are vulnerable to attack. As connectivity becomes a way of life, the need for security expertise for in-vehicle systems is becoming increasingly urgent. Hacking Connected Cars provides practical, comprehensive guidance for keeping these vehicles secure.

Book Wireless Connectivity

Download or read book Wireless Connectivity written by Petar Popovski and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-02-25 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wireless Connectivity: An Intuitive and Fundamental Guide Wireless connectivity has become an indispensable part, a commodity associated with the way we work and play. The latest developments, the 5G, next-generation Wi-Fi and Internet of Things connectivity, are the key enablers for widespread digitalization of practically all industries and public sector segments. This immense development within the last three decades have been accompanied by a large number of ideas, articles, patents, and even myths. This book introduces the most important ideas and concepts in wireless connectivity and discusses how these are interconnected, whilst the mathematical content is kept minimal. The book does not follow the established, linear structure in which one starts from the propagation and channels and then climbs up the protocol layers. The structure is, rather, nonlinear, in an attempt to follow the intuition used when one creates a new technology to solve a certain problem. The target audience is: Students in electronics, communication, and networking Wireless engineers that are specialized in one area, but want to know how the whole system works, without going through all the details and math Computer scientists that want to understand the fundamentals of wireless connectivity, the requirements and, most importantly, the limitations Engineers in energy systems, logistics, transport and other vertical sectors that are increasingly reliant on wireless technology

Book Wireless Sensor Networks

Download or read book Wireless Sensor Networks written by Elena Gaura and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-09-14 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twentieth century ended with the vision of smart dust: a network of wirelessly connected devices whose size would match that of a dust particle, each one a se- containedpackageequippedwithsensing, computation, communication, andpower. Smart dust held the promise to bridge the physical and digital worlds in the most unobtrusive manner, blending together realms that were previously considered well separated. Applications involved scattering hundreds, or even thousands, of smart dust devices to monitor various environmental quantities in scenarios ranging from habitat monitoring to disaster management. The devices were envisioned to se- organize to accomplish their task in the most ef?cient way. As such, smart dust would become a powerful tool, assisting the daily activities of scientists and en- neers in a wide range of disparate disciplines. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs), as we know them today, are the most no- worthy attempt at implementing the smart dust vision. In the last decade, this ?eld has seen a fast-growing investment from both academia and industry. Signi?cant ?nancial resources and manpower have gone into making the smart dust vision a reality through WSNs. Yet, we still cannot claim complete success. At present, only specialist computerscientists or computerengineershave the necessary background to walk the road from conception to a ?nal, deployed, and running WSN system.
