Book Meditations on the Life and Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ

Download or read book Meditations on the Life and Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ written by John Tauler and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2013-04-26 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ALL holy men agree in teaching that devout meditation on the sacred Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ is one of the most efficacious ways of kindling the fire of divine love in our hearts. "Very often," writes the holy abbot Blosius, "hath our Lord revealed to his beloved spouses Gertrude, Bridget, Mechtilde and Catherine, how pleasing it is to him and how fruitful to the soul, when the Passion of Jesus Christ is recalled to mind with loving and humble attention and sincere devotion. These holy women meditated on the Passion with unflagging diligence. The sacred Passion, though so sharp and bitter in itself, is full to the brim of the sweetest essence of charity. These holy women, therefore, so fixed the thought of it in the very centre of their souls, and contemplated it with such burning love and with such sweet affections of charity, that it became to them like honey in the mouth, melody in the ear and joy in the heart." Therefore all who desire to love our Lord Jesus Christ with sincerity should diligently meditate on the sacred Passion according to the grace bestowed on each one by God. In this we can always find delight. By this practice, within the reach of everyone, we can always increase our love and go on apace to God. In this exercise shall we find rest in the midst of labour, comfort in the darkest anxiety, support in the most dangerous temptations and joy amidst humiliation and contempt. In his clear and succinct way, St Thomas Aquinas gives us four reasons for meditating on the Passion: I. By it we learn how much God loves man. 2. From it we learn humility, obedience, self sacrifice and all virtues. 3. By means of this exercise the soul is moved to hate sin. 4. We become convinced that no kind of death should be feared by a man living a good life, since the Son of God embraced the Cross.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The History of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ "This book is not, strictly speaking, a series of sermons or meditations on the sufferings of our Redeemer, but it is rather an explanation of the history of the Passion. It consists of a description of the most important and most interesting trial which has ever come before a court of justice, on whose final decision depends the weal or woe of the whole human race. The book is also a commentary on the greatest drama which has ever been enacted. Even considered from a purely natural point of view, the Passion of our Lord is a drama with which none other can be compared as regards the character of the actors, the magnitude of the action, the importance of the intrigue and the complexity of the plot. The unities of time and place have even been preserved. In preparing this explanation and practical application of the history of the Passion, the author has spared no pains in gathering and using with discretion the best which Catholic learning and research has to offer on the subject. Book excerpt: Info: www.divinewill.eu - St. Hannibal of Francia, Luisa's extraordinary confessor affirms that her method is a "totally new approach," and she was the first to introduce this way of contemplating the Lord's passion: "This solitary soul is a most pure virgin, wholly of God, who appears to be the object of singular predilection of Jesus, Divine Redeemer. It seems that Our Lord, who century after century increases the wonders of His Love more and more, wanted to make of this virgin with no education, whom He calls the littlest one that He found on earth, the instrument of a mission so sublime that no other can be compared to it - that is, the triumph of the Divine Will upon the whole earth, in conformity with what is said in the 'Our Father': Fiat Voluntas Tua sicut in Coelo et in terra." Book The Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ

Download or read book The Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ written by Alban Goodier and published by Scepter Publishers. This book was released on 2017-03-31 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Archbishop Alban Goodier, S.J. fills in the many blanks in the historical narratives about the Passion of Jesus Christ with a riveting account based on history, culture and his own deep spiritual insights. He brings to life and unifies the many observations, emotions and subtle and not-so-subtle actions that revolve around the person of God the Son as he faces his most tragic and triumphant moment. The author’s unique approach intersperses Scripture accounts with the commentary of an incisive narrator who sifts and judges from the span of hundreds of years. He draws from the obvious as well as the obscure, and finds supernatural meaning in the most mundane actions that surround the suffering Christ. In the hands of this writer, the Lord’s few words, accompanied by the author’s commentary, challenge contemporary believers as much as they did those who first followed in the footsteps of Christ and his apostles. The author was born in 1869 in Lancashire, northern England and educated at the prominent Catholic college, Stonyhurst, which has been the source of many English Catholic politicians, intellectuals and business people. After a degree from the University of London, he was ordained a Jesuit in 1903. He served as archbishop of Bombay from 1919 to 1926 and returned to England to write and serve as a chaplain until his death in 1939.
