It would deprive them a0i). 1681. Of the powerful aid which they derived from the agency of several clubs, and of a numerous faction in the city, and would remove them to a place where they hardly possessed a single partisan, and where the fidelity of their followers might be shaken by the offers of the court, or subdued by the presence of the military. It attributed the choice of Oxford to the counsels of wicked men, favourers of popery, promoters of French interests, and enemies to the happiness of England; it stated that in such a place the two houses would be deprived of free dom of debate, and exposed to the swords of the papists, who had crept into the ranks of the king's guards; and it therefore prayed and advised that the parliament might be held at the accustomed place in the city of Westminster.
