Download or read book Jung on Astrology written by C. G. Jung and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-05 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jung on Astrology brings together C. G. Jung’s thoughts on astrology in a single volume for the first time, significantly adding to our understanding of Jung’s work. Jung’s Collected Works, seminars, and letters contain numerous discussions of this ancient divinatory system, and Jung himself used astrological horoscopes as a diagnostic tool in his analytic practice. Understood in terms of his own psychology as a symbolic representation of the archetypes of the collective unconscious, Jung found in astrology a wealth of spiritual and psychological meaning and suggested it represents the "sum of all the psychological knowledge of antiquity." The selections and editorial introductions by Safron Rossi and Keiron Le Grice address topics that were of critical importance to Jung—such as the archetypal symbolism in astrology, the precession of the equinoxes and astrological ages, astrology as a form of synchronicity and acausal correspondence, the qualitative nature of time, and the experience of astrological fate—allowing readers to assess astrology’s place within the larger corpus of Jung’s work and its value as a source of symbolic meaning for our time. The book will be of great interest to analytical psychologists, Jungian psychotherapists and academics and students of depth psychology, Jungian and post-Jungian studies, as well as to astrologers and therapists of other orientations, especially transpersonal.

Book excerpt: The author of Desiring God reveals the biblical evidence to help us see and savor what the pleasures of God show us about Him. Includes a study guide for individual and small-group use. Isn’t it true—we really don’t know someone until we understand what makes that person happy? And so it is with God! What does bring delight to the happiest Being in the universe? John Piper writes, that it’s only when we know what makes God glad that we’ll know the greatness of His glory. Therefore, we must comprehend “the pleasures of God.” Unlike so much of what is written today, this is not a book about us. It is about the One we were made for—God Himself. In this theological masterpiece—chosen by World Magazine as one of the 20th Century’s top 100 books, John Piper reveals the biblical evidence to help us see and savor what the pleasures of God show us about Him. Then we will be able to drink deeply—and satisfyingly—from the only well that offers living water. What followers of Jesus need now, more than anything else, is to know and love—behold and embrace—the great, glorious, sovereign, happy God of the Bible. “This is a unique and precious book that everybody should read more than once.” —J.I. PACKER, Regent College, Vancouver, British Columbia

Book The Heavens Declare

Download or read book The Heavens Declare written by Alice O. Howell and published by Quest Books. This book was released on 2013-09-20 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Heavens Declare, author and astrologer Alice O. Howell proclaims, “We are not confronting the end of the world, but the end of the Age of Pisces!” Integrating two major disciplines of astrology and Jungian depth psychology, Howell’s latest title reveals the fascinating connection between astrology and the evolution of the Collective Unconscious, C.G. Jung’s theory that the unconscious mind is shared by all humans and contains archetypes and universal mental predispositions not grounded in physical experience. Written in the form of thought-provoking letters to her analyst friend, Howell’s natural wit and charm compliment the text. Exploring the synchronicity between myth, history, religion, and the evolution of humankind over the past five astrological ages—spanning some 12,000 years—she presents the current tasks and the potential traps humanity now faces. Howell also provides her audience with a deeper understanding and method of healing the individual psyche. She illustrates that an astrologer serves as a type of psychologist who analyzes the position of the stars and planets within an individual’s astrological chart for the purpose of understanding his or her psychological makeup, the personal challenges he or she may face, and the possible solutions to overcoming those obstacles.

Book The Heavens Declare

  • Author : Rodney Holder
  • Publisher : Templeton Foundation Press
  • Release : 2012-02-01
  • ISBN : 1599474034

Download or read book The Heavens Declare written by Rodney Holder and published by Templeton Foundation Press. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the central themes of inquiry for Karl Barth, the twentieth-century Protestant theologian, was the notion of revelation. Although he was suspicious of natural theology (i.e. the seeking of evidence for God’s existence in the ordered structure of the world), recent scientific advances (notably in physics and cosmology) and the flourishing modern dialogue between science and religion offer compelling reasons to revisit Barth’s thinking on the concept. We must again ask whether and how it might be possible to hold together the notion of revelation whilst employing reason and scientific evidence in the justification of belief. In The Heavens Declare, author Rodney Holder re-examines Barth’s natural theology argument and then explores how it has been critiqued and responded to by others, starting with Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Wolfhart Pannenberg. Holder then considers the contributions of two notable British participants in the science-religion dialogue, Thomas Torrance and Alister McGrath, who, despite their repudiation of natural theology in the traditional sense, also provide many positive lessons. The book concludes by defending an overall position which takes into account the ideas of the aforementioned theologians as well as others who are currently engaged positively in natural theology, such as John Polkinghorne and Richard Swinburne. Holder’s new study is sure to be of interest to theologians, philosophers of religion, and all scholars interested in the science-religion dialogue, especially those interested in natural theology as an enterprise in itself.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In her latest book, What the Heavens Declare, Lydia Jaeger provides a detailed analysis of the role of the theistic doctrine of creation in the rise of modern science, with a particular focus on the natural order. As the author explains, despite the common use of the expression "laws of nature" by both scientists and laymen, there is a long-standing tradition of philosophical debate about, and even refusal of, the notion that laws of nature might exist independently of a divine or human mind. This work attempts to account for natural order in harmony with the religious worldview that significantly contributed to the original context in which modern science began: the world seen as the creation of the triune God.
