I remember, he replied, I have not for gotten, but I have been thinking that at this season you will experience much discomfort. Would it not be better that you should defer the project till after the summer when I will send you whithersoever you may desire 2 Besides with this affair of the blockade trouble at Kuwait I am anxious to have you with me to consult; but, of course, if you wish to go there is nothing to prevent it, and the camels are all ready to come in. Well, I said, it was arranged that I should go, and I thought no more of the matter believing that you had matters in train and would inlorm me when the preparations were complete. As regards the Kuwait affair you know it is fully settled and no further trouble will occur. I have given you my word for that but, 0 Hakim, it seems to me that perhaps you really do not wish me to undertake this journey. If that be so, tell me and I shall understand, though I am anxious to go in accordance with our agreement. Thus appealed to on a point of honour Ibn Sa'ud yielded with a fair grace and with an unconvincing assurance that it was only a con sideration of my own comfort that had deterred him from further proceeding in the matter. The expedition was led by Ernest H. Shackleton, who set sail from Port Lyttelton, New Zealand, on January 1, 1908. Shackleton and a party of 14 men were dropped off at Cape Royds on Ross Island on February 3. The men were split into three groups. One would attempt to reach the South Pole, another would travel north to the South Magnetic Pole, and a third would explore the mountains west of McMurdo Sound. On October 29, Shackleton, three companions, and four ponies set out for the South Pole. Despite the great difficulty, they reached a latitude of 88°23' S. on January 9, 1909, further south than any prior expedition. They were compelled to turn back due to fierce blizzards and a shortage of supplies. They returned to the Nimrod and arrived in New Zealand safely. In addition to getting within 97.5 nautical miles (180.6 kilometers) of the pole, the expedition accomplished two other noteworthy feats. Douglas Mawson, Edgeworth David, and Alistair Mackay led the first ascent of Mount Erebus, Antarctica's most active volcano, on March 5-11, 1908, and the same three men reached the South Magnetic Pole on January 16, 1909.

Be Afra draws on sacred writings, If, Yrb legends and deep analysis of Yrb language to demonstrate that the black race had knowledge of the Everlasting Gospel, the Teaching that should keep mankind free from ignorance or defiance of the Law. Ignorance of that Law is no excuse. We are who we are and where we are, by series of decisions we took, at the Y-junctions of life. Beloved Great Divine Director, Manu of the seventh (the incoming) root race said: "Perhaps we have been a bit timid ourselves, or should I say conservative and dignified, in not employing more spectacular methods to acquaint mankind with the wonderful product which we have to offer. After all, blessed ones, we are marketing divine freedom to the earth and conveying it to individuals every day, yet we are seldom seen or heard in the marketplace of life. Perhaps the 'shouting from the housetops' through the multitudes of antennas reaching out into the ethers shall one day convey a greater measure of heaven's law to the earth. We shall see." Of Sand or Soil looks at how genealogy and tribal belonging have informed the lives of past and present inhabitants of Saudi Arabia and how the Saudi government's tacit glorification of tribal origins has shaped the powerful development of the kingdom’s genealogical culture. Nadav Samin presents the first extended biographical exploration of the major twentieth-century Saudi scholar Ḥamad al-Jāsir, whose genealogical studies frame the story about belonging and identity in the modern kingdom. Samin examines the interplay between al-Jāsir’s genealogical project and his many hundreds of petitioners, mostly Saudis of nontribal or lower status origin who sought validation of their tribal roots in his genealogical texts. Investigating the Saudi relationship to this opaque, orally inscribed historical tradition, Samin considers the consequences of modern Saudi genealogical politics and how the most intimate anxieties of nontribal Saudis today are amplified by the governing strategies and kinship ideology of the Saudi state. Challenging the impression that Saudi culture is determined by puritanical religiosity or rentier economic principles, Of Sand or Soil shows how the exploration and establishment of tribal genealogies have become influential phenomena in contemporary Saudi society.
