Book Steel and Its Heat Treatment

Download or read book Steel and Its Heat Treatment written by Karl-Erik Thelning and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steel and its Heat Treatment: Bofors Handbook describes the fundamental metallographic concepts, materials testing, hardenability, heat treatment, and dimensional changes that occur during the hardening and tempering stages of steel. The book explains the boundaries separating the grain contents of steel, which are the low-angle grain boundaries, the high-angle grain boundaries, and the twinning boundaries. Engineers can determine the hardenability of steel through the Grossman test or the Jominy End-Quench test. Special hardening and tempering methods are employed for steel that are going to be fabricated into tools. The different methods of hardening are manual hardening for a small surface (the tip of a screw); spin hardening for objects with a rotational symmetry (gears with 5 modules or less); and progressive hardening (or a combination with spin hardening) for flat surfaces. The hardening and tempering processes cause changes in size and shape of the substance. The text presents examples of dimensional changes during the hardening and tempering of tool steels such as those occurring in plain-carbon steels and low-alloy steels. The book is a source of reliable information needed by engineers, tool and small equipment designers, as well as by metallurgists, structural, and mechanical engineers.

Book Steels

    Book Details:
  • Author : Robert William Kerr Honeycombe
  • Publisher : John Wiley & Sons
  • Release : 1996-02-12
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 340 pages

Download or read book Steels written by Robert William Kerr Honeycombe and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1996-02-12 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The properties of steels depend critically on their microstructure. By examining the mechanical properties of steels in conjunction with microstructure, the first edition gave a clear description of the development and behavior of these materials - the very foundation of their widespread use. This new edition more explicitly links this theory with applications while retaining the style and purpose of its predecessor.

Book Iron and Steel

Download or read book Iron and Steel written by William F. Hosford and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-04-23 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended both as a resource for engineers and as an introduction to the layman about our most important metal system. After an introduction that deals with the history and refining of iron and steel, the rest of the book examines their physical properties and metallurgy. To elaborate on the importance of iron and steel, we can refer to the fact that modern civilization as we know it would not be possible without it. Steel is essential in the machinery necessary for manufacturing that meets our needs. Even the words themselves have come to suggest strength. Phrases such as 'iron willed', 'iron fisted', 'iron clad', 'iron curtain' and 'pumping iron' imply strength. A 'steely glance' is a stern look. 'A heart of steel' refers to a very hard demeanor. The Russian dictator, Stalin (which means steel in Russian), chose the name to invoke fear in those under him.

Book Steel and Its Heat Treatment

Download or read book Steel and Its Heat Treatment written by Karl-Erik Thelning and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 697 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steel and Its Heat Treatment, Second Edition presents information, research, and developments in the heat treatment of steel. The book contains chapters that discuss the fundamentals of TTT-diagrams and hardening mechanisms, injection metallurgy and continuous casting, annealing processes, strain aging and temper brittleness. Existing CCT-diagrams are subjected to critical review, the mechanisms controlling hardenability are discussed, and the detailing of the properties of boron constructional steels, micro-alloyed steels and dual-phase steels are also included. Metallurgists, metal workers, and engineers will find the book very useful.

Book Steels

Download or read book Steels written by George Krauss and published by ASM International(OH). This book was released on 1989 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steels: Processing, Structure, and Performance is a comprehensive guide to the broad, dynamic physical metallurgy of steels. The volume is an extensively revised and updated edition of the classic 1990 book Steels: Heat Treatment and Processing Principles. Eleven new chapters expand the coverage in the previous edition, and other chapters have been reorganized and updated. This volume is an essential reference for anyone who makes, uses, studies, or designs with steel. The interrelationships between chemistry, processing, structure, and performance--the elements of physical metallurgy--are integrated for all the types of steel discussed.
