Book The H Bomb and the Jesus Rock

Download or read book The H Bomb and the Jesus Rock written by John Manderino and published by Chicago Review Press. This book was released on 2010-10-01 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It’s Saturday, october 27, 1962, the darkest day of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Two children, Ralph and his little sister Lou, are searching for empty bottles in a vacant lot when they discover a rock which—to them, at least—looks quite a lot like Jesus. Ralph immediately declares it a Possible Holy Object. And, since his fondest wish is to be a “boy-in-a-story,” he earnestly places himself and Lou—now his “sidekick”—in a tale featuring the “sacred rock” as the key to nothing less than saving the world from nuclear annihilation. But there’s another boy, Toby—older, shrewder, and quite a bit larger—who has very different plans for the rock, intending to use it as a lucrative sideshow exhibit, complete with fliers: Is it Jesus? Or just a rock? You decide! Hovering over the children and their small-scale war is the general anxiety and dread attending the most perilous moment in our history. As we approach the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis, John Manderino’s The H-bomb and the Jesus Rock provides a unique, children’s-eye view of that near-Armageddon.

Book But You Scared Me the Most

Download or read book But You Scared Me the Most written by John Manderino and published by Chicago Review Press. This book was released on 2005-08-01 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of twenty-six dark but often humorous short stories features a pantheon of disturbed and disturbing characters, human and otherwise. Many of the stories are modern takes on classic monsters crafted with twisted plots and Twilight Zone-esque endings. For example, “Wolfman and Janice” is about a werewolf who is doing the best he can under very trying circumstances, especially when confronted with eating his elderly neighbor’s cat. There’s an adolescent vampire-wannabe who is suffering badly: in love for the first time. “Frankenstein and His Mother” is a terrifying story of a grown man who wears a Frankenstein mask and lives with his mother watching TV and eating corn chips all day while being afraid of work. “Dracula’s Daughter” turns a pretentious hippie into an honest ghost. And Bigfoot—lonely, sexually frustrated—tells all. Other stories feature characters who seem perfectly normal until they're alone. Phil, for instance, is never so happy as when he’s with his inflatable girlfriend Vanessa—until she tells him the devastating truth about himself. Elderly Ellen is running out of patience with her dead husband George, who’s turned prankish. “Bob and Todd” tells the story of a hitchhiking ride gone bad that will have readers squirming in their seats. More than just standard monster stories, the tales in But You Scared Me the Most reveal much more about about human nature and will appeal to a wide range of fans of smart, funny short fiction.

In vivid and indelible prose, Pulitzer Prize–winner John Hersey traces the stories of these half-dozen individuals from 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945, when Hiroshima was destroyed by the first atomic bomb ever dropped on a city, through the hours and days that followed. Almost four decades after the original publication of this celebrated book, Hersey went back to Hiroshima in search of the people whose stories he had told, and his account of what he discovered is now the eloquent and moving final chapter of Hiroshima.

Book Christ Became Sin

Download or read book Christ Became Sin written by Daniel F. Owsley and published by Booktango. This book was released on 2012-03-13 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christ Became Sin is fated to become a clasic since it offers the kind of inspiration that can't be found in Inspiration For Dummies . 'Tis a smart book for smart people who want to understand why the Bible said that Christ became sin. So it is up to intellectual Christians to dare to read how the forces of darkness were defeated the very moment Jesus Christ Almighty felt the shame of sin upon Him even though He knew that not. Our most worthy Rock of the Ages also walked the greatest walk while talking the purist talk that ever could have been talked by anyone. Nor can it ever be denied that our exalted Architect of the Foundation of the Age of Grace even divided mankind's calendar asunder. For it was always His job alone to split time in two as easily as He faithfully spread the good news of God's kingdom. Even those that don't believe in our Lord of Life know that He made a bigger impact on our world than the largest meteor that ever hit it. Neither can any atheist ever dare to declare that our Living Star of Bethlehem hasn't had his name shining upon countless neon signs with the word "saves" underneath it. Furthermore, the name of Jesus, and his legacy, has survived throughout the darkest ages while setting free some of the darkest souls. 'twas also a most remarkable story with no past tense; For it still speaks very loudly of future days of bliss that shall surely pound our earth's ground with a fury of some very peaceful tranquility. And it was our Lord of Always' passion alone that evermore set the tempo for all of creation to sing with gladness for His long awaited return. Therefore, this is both the beginning and end of His story and a look back at a blood soaked history that reveals it's most incredible climax! Nor does it matter what anyone thinks about Jesus; For it shall come to pass that every soul looking towards His glory can never again stand in His shadow; For His overflowing brightness shall never again allow any darkness.

Book Last Gospel of Christ

  • Publisher : Booktango

Download or read book Last Gospel of Christ written by Daniel F. Owsley and published by Booktango. This book was released on 2012-02-25 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Last Gospel of Christ can be described beautifully by the words of James Hefley who long ago wrote “Here is a man who was born in an obscure village, the Child of a peasant woman. He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty, and then for three years He was an itinerant (educated) preacher. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never owned a home. He never had a family. He never went to college. He never put His foot inside a big city. He never travelled two hundred miles from the place where He was born. He never did one of the things that usually accompany greatness. He had no credentials but Himself. He had nothing to do with this world except the naked power of His Divine manhood. While still a young man, the tide of popular opinion turned against Him. He was turned over to His enemies. He went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed to a Cross between two thieves. His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had on earth while He was dying—and that was His coat. When He was dead He was taken down and laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend. Such was His human life—He rises from the dead. Nineteen wide centuries have come and gone and today He is the Centerpiece of the human race and the Leader of the column of progress. I am within the mark when I say that all the armies that ever marched, and all the navies that ever were built, and all the parliaments that ever sat, and all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man upon this earth as powerfully as has that One Solitary Life.” And to sum up this work, it's simply about the life and death of our Lion of Judea that's told from a prophetic fundamental viewpoint through many authors. And as the gospel is unfolded it clearly spells out that there are only two kind of Christians. And I'm not talking about Catholic or Protestant: For so it is that the only two kinds of followers are those who know that they're victorious no matter what, and then there's the kind of believer that doesn't know that at all. But it's very unfortunate that people in that group sadly settle for the mistaken belief that they've been defeated somehow. For they easily forget that Christ within them stands much taller, than the devil, who has already been long ago defeated at the cross. But it doesn't need to be said that even though those confused true followers might walk daily in defeat, they're still pretty big winners in our Lord God's sight due to their faith even though it might be the size of a mustard seed.

Book excerpt: 'An active pleasure to read' Mail on Sunday Harold Wilson's famous reference to 'white heat' captured the optimistic spirit of a society in the midst of breathtaking change. From the gaudy pleasures of Swinging London to the tragic bloodshed in Northern Ireland, from the intrigues of Westminster to the drama of the World Cup, British life seemed to have taken on a dramatic new momentum. The memories, images and colourful personalities of those heady times still resonate today: mop-tops and mini-skirts, strikes and demonstrations, Carnaby Street and Kings Road, Harold Wilson and Edward Heath, Mary Quant and Jean Shrimpton, Enoch Powell and Mary Whitehouse, Marianne Faithfull and Mick Jagger. In this wonderfully rich and readable historical narrative, Dominic Sandbrook looks behind the myths of the Swinging Sixties to unearth the contradictions of a society caught between optimism and decline.

Book Sibylline Oracles of Christ

Download or read book Sibylline Oracles of Christ written by Daniel F. Owsley and published by Booktango. This book was released on 2012-04-24 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this Apmplified edition of the Sibylline Oracles of Christ readers shall be more than amazed at the inspired words of the ancient Greeks. Nor should Christians be too shocked to discover that the author of the following text has prophesied many of the same happenings as the Bible prophets have. And in the mouth of several witnesses this literature is absolutely magnificent. For it is written: 1 And it shall come to pass in the last days that God shall speak with a mighty voice To all rude people of an empty mind, who do not bow down unto His son. 2 And judgement from the mighty God shall swiftly come Upon them, and they all shall be destroyed By his immortal arm. 3 And fiery swords Shall fall front heaven on earth; and great bright lights Shall come down flaming in the midst of men. And in those days shall earth, all-mother, reel By his immortal arm, and shoals of fish In the deep sea, and all wild, beasts of earth, And countless tribes of winged fowl, and all The souls of men and every sea shall tremble Before the face of the Immortal One. 4 And there shall be great dismay. High mountain peaks And monstrous hills shall he asunder break, And to all shall dark appear. 5 And misty gorges in the lofty hills shall be full of the dead; and rocks shall stream With blood and every torrent fill the plain. 6 And well-built walls of evil-minded men Shall all fall to the earth, since they knew not The law nor judgement of the mighty God, But with a senseless soul all hurried on Against the temple and raised up their spears. 7 And God shall judge all by war and by sword And by fire and by overwhelming storm; And brimstone there shall be from heaven, and stones And great and grievous hail; and death shall come Upon the awful winds of our Lord's greatest curses for all evil ones to know. 8 And then shall they Know God, the Immortal, who performs these things; And wailing, and upon the boundless earth Shall be at once a shout of perishing men; And all the unholy shall be bathed in blood; 9 And earth herself shall also drink the blood Of the perishing, and beasts be gorged with flesh. 10 And all these things the great eternal God Himself bade me proclaim. And that shall not Be unaccomplished, or be unfulfilled, Whatever only in my heart he put; For truthful is God's spirit. 11 But children of the mighty God shall all Again around the temple live in peace, Rejoicing in those things which he shall give Who is Creator, righteous Judge and King. For he himself, great, present far and wide, Shall be a shelter, as on all sides round A wall of flaming fire. And they shall be In cities and in country without war. 12 For not the hand of evil war, but rather The Immortal shall himself be their defender And the hand of the Holy One. And then shall all The islands and the cities tell how much The immortal God loves those men. 13 For all things Help them in conflict and deliver them Heaven, and divinely fashioned sun, and moon. And in those days before those blessings shall earth, all-mother, reel. Sweet word shall they send from their mouths in hymns: "Come, falling on the earth let us all pray The immortal King, and great eternal God. 14 To the temple let its in procession go, Since he alone is Lord; and let us all Meditate on the law of God most high, Which is most righteous of all laws on earth. And as an additional treat to really bless people's souls also included within this fantastic offering is two books of some forbidden knowledge of good and evil that's straight from the desk of James the Righteous, dicovered recently at the Dead Sea as scrolls # 478 and #479 of the Essene sacred texts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A valuable resource for students and general audiences, this book provides a unique global perspective on the history, beliefs, and practices of emergent faith communities; new religious traditions; and religious movements worldwide, from the 19th century to the present. New Religions: Emerging Faiths and Religious Cultures in the Modern World provides insightful global perspectives on the emergent faith communities and new traditions and movements of the last two centuries. Readers will gain access to the information necessary to explore the significance, complexities, and challenges that modern religious traditions have faced throughout their history and that continue to impact society today. The work identifies the themes and issues that have often brought new religions into conflict with the larger societies of which they are a part. Coverage includes new religious groups that emerged in America, such as the Seventh-day Adventists, the Latter-day Saints, and the Jehovah's Witnesses; alternative communities around the globe that emerged from the major Western and Eastern traditions, such as Aum Shinrikyo and Al-Qaeda; and marginalized groups that came to a sudden end, such as the Peoples Temple, Heaven's Gate, and the Branch Davidians. The entries highlight thematic and broader issues that run across the individual religious traditions, and will also help students analyze and assess the common difficulties faced by emergent religious communities.
