Book The Gulf Natural Gas Dual Pricing Regime

Download or read book The Gulf Natural Gas Dual Pricing Regime written by Justin Dargin and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stakeholders in the international economy have long considered energy a crucial aspect of national sovereignty - a commodity inherently political in nature. Because of its contentious nature, energy and natural resources have been the source of conflicts for a millennia. With the sharp increase of the international price of oil and natural gas from 2002-2008, energy subsidization in the energy-rich exporting countries assumed center stage. A narrow focus on this new dynamic, however, obscures the basic issue that developed and developing countries tend to view energy in fundamentally contradictory ways. For developed, OECD countries energy is primarily a tool used to promote the smooth running of the global economy. This book discusses the role and development of energy in emerging regions.

Book The Gulf Oil and Gas Sector

Download or read book The Gulf Oil and Gas Sector written by The Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research and published by Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research. This book was released on 2006-04-11 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The predominance of oil as the world’s main source of energy, coupled with the recent phenomenal growth of the natural gas industry spurred by environmental considerations, ensure that the Gulf’s energy sector will continue to play a pivotal role in the global market. With world demand projected to reach unprecedented levels led by Asian economic powers such as China and India, oil production peaking in key areas and geopolitical crises fueling greater uncertainty, issues of global supply security have come to the fore. All these factors have led to a steep rise in petroleum prices, filling the coffers of the oil producers but threatening to paralyze the global economy and imposing a heavy burden on the ultimate consumers. In this energy scenario, where does the Gulf oil and gas sector stand? How can it meet its long-term strategic requirements while satisfying the energy needs of the global economy? This was the main focus of the ECSSR Tenth Annual Energy Conference on The Gulf Oil and Gas Sector: Potential and Constraints, held in Abu Dhabi, from September 26–27, 2004. The conference presentations of the energy experts compiled in this book examine both the possibilities and the problems of the Gulf energy sector in the wider global context. Important energy issues covered include the future prospects of OPEC, the impact of world oil prices on global growth, the strategic objectives of the Gulf energy sector, the influence of markets and technology on regional reserves, the emerging partnerships between national and international oil companies, the imperatives for attracting Gulf energy investment and new developments in gas technology and regional gas trade. Regional case studies outline possible scenarios for the future of Iraqi oil, highlight policy options for Saudi Arabia as a swing producer and focus on the Norwegian experience of economic diversification.

This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Starting from the premise that a multilateral legal framework is the surest way to achieve predictability and transparency under conditions of increasing reliance on internationally traded energy, the essays gathered in this book treat the many complex interlocking issues raised by examining that desideratum in the light of current reality. Concentrating on the application of WTO agreements to energy trade - as well as energy-related issues addressed in the current WTO negotiations - the authors offer in-depth discussion and analysis of such issues as the following: the effectiveness of existing WTO agreements in addressing issues pertinent to energy trade how restrictive practices of energy endowed countries can be tackled under existing international trade rules; existing frameworks for investment in highly capital-intensive energy infrastructure projects;and conditions for access to pipelines and transmission grids; regulation of energy services; bioenergy development and trade; energy issues addressed in the WTO accession negotiations of energy endowed countries; international instruments of resolution of energy-related disputes.

Book The Changing Dynamics of Energy in the Middle East

Download or read book The Changing Dynamics of Energy in the Middle East written by Khalid Al-Rodhan and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2006-10-30 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent rise in global demand for energy and the resulting spike in energy prices have illustrated just how important Middle Eastern energy exports are. This book, the first on the subject since the hike in energy prices impacted the global energy market, outlines the current facts that shape the ability of Middle Eastern producers to supply energy exports. It explores the possible future causes both of major interruptions in supply, and of failures to maintain and expand export capacity, and, though it does not predict a major energy crisis, it does describe a range of factors that could produce one. The recent rise in global demand for energy and the resulting spike in energy prices have illustrated just how important Middle Eastern energy exports are. This book, the first on the subject since the hike in energy prices impacted the global energy market, outlines current facts that shape the ability of Middle Eastern producers to supply energy exports. It explores the possible future causes both of major interruptions in supply, and failures to maintain and expand export capacity, and, though it does not predict a major energy crisis, it does describe factors that could produce one. Authors Cordesman and Al-Rodhan analyze the plans of each country in the region, compare those plans with the forecasting models of international organizations, and study each country's prospects for stability. They also analyze how importing countries such as the United States, Europe, China, and India are dealing with the changing nature of global dependence upon MENA oil. Offering the most comprehensive data on current energy resources, production capacities estimates, import dependence, and national plans and strategies, The Changing Dynamics of Energy in the Middle East analyzes current energy modeling, and shows how the lack of supply-driven models has had a negative impact on the understanding of policy makers and strategic thinkers. The book concludes its analysis with possible strategic, economic, and demographic scenarios for the Middle East, projecting the impact of each scenario on future energy developments.

Book Foundations of Natural Gas Price Formation

Download or read book Foundations of Natural Gas Price Formation written by Sergei Komlev and published by Anthem Press. This book was released on 2020-09-25 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural gas pricing should be as critically important to the general public as it is to industry specialists. Pricing is the basis of balancing the interests of European and Asian consumers of power and electricity with those of the limited number of potential suppliers of natural gas. Given that natural gas is a foundational transition fuel source that will not be supplanted by renewals for many, many years, the consequences of market failure from incorrect pricing mechanisms could result in the industry missing the new investment cycle. In addressing the critical balancing role of natural gas pricing, ‘Foundations of Natural Gas Price Formation’ presents an in-depth analysis of the fundamentals of natural gas price formation and outlines the distinctive characteristics of natural gas that make it a unique commodity by examining the specific factors underpinning gas pricing that result in a hybrid pricing system special to natural gas. The book argues that the patrons of spot pricing through gas hubs are promoting an incorrect understanding of gas markets that will lead to market failure and to potential critical supply shortages in the near future. ‘Foundations of Natural Gas Price Formation’ defends the system of oil-indexed pricing as an accurate, market-based mechanism that has stood the test of time.
