This book was released on 2020-03-10 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Compassion is the dynamic force of all pastoral engagement. Without it, Salvation is impossible. With it, the salvation of the human person both spiritually and materially is assured. It is a deep natural, philosophical, theological, and religious value. The proper assimilation of this value, with all its implications, marks a turning point in one's life. It opens up one, not only to love and to be loved, but also to see things, not as they are, but as they should be. It marks one's entry into the crusade of the universal- pastor-hood; a heart-driven crusade that abhors all forms of exploitation and abuses. A crusade of socio-political wellbeing realized through politics of compassion.

Book Bajju Christian Conversion in the Middle Belt of Nigeria

Download or read book Bajju Christian Conversion in the Middle Belt of Nigeria written by Carol V. McKinney and published by SIL International. This book was released on 2019-06-06 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why have large numbers of the Bajju people of the Middle Belt of Nigeria become Christians? The first conversions occurred in 1929 and today almost one hundred percent of the Bajju claim to be Christians, so this people movement happened within a relatively short period. McKinney details the various contexts in which religious change took place among the Bajju: in traditional Bajju culture, in their relations with the Hausa-Fulani, in the British colonial context, and in the missionary context. She presents the results of an in-depth interview schedule administered in 1984 and 2011 to respondents in both a rural village and a Kaduna suburb. This longitudinal study, together with the author's involvement in participant observation, personal language learning, and archival records research, help provide answers to the questions of why, and to what degree, a worldview paradigm shift has occurred among the Bajju. The author also discusses some traditional religious beliefs retained by Bajju Christians, and charts traditional religious beliefs with biblical texts. Bajju Christian Conversion in the Middle Belt of Nigeria will be essential to anthropologists specializing in conversion studies, and be of interest to missiologists, and to the Bajju people themselves. It is a companion volume to Baranzan's People: An Ethnohistory of the Bajju of the Middle Belt of Nigeria, published by SIL International(R) 2019.

Book A History of Christianity in Indonesia

Download or read book A History of Christianity in Indonesia written by Jan Sihar Aritonang and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2008 with total page 1021 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indonesia is the home of the largest single Muslim community of the world. Its Christian community, about 10% of the population, has until now received no overall description in English. Through cooperation of 26 Indonesian and European scholars, Protestants and Catholics, a broad and balanced picture is given of its 24 million Christians. This book sketches the growth of Christianity during the Portuguese period (1511-1605), it presents a fair account of developments under the Dutch colonial administration (1605-1942) and is more elaborate for the period of the Indonesian Republic (since 1945). It emphasizes the regional differences in this huge country, because most Christians live outside the main island of Java. Muslim-Christian relations, as well as the tensions between foreign missionaries and local theology, receive special attention.

Book Mission and Context

Download or read book Mission and Context written by Jione Havea and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2020-06-30 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mission is contrived from and performed over lived contexts, but the visions that guide and drive mission are oftentimes blinded by power, position, protection, and plenitude. This collection visits those matters with queering attention to the shadows that empires cast over the contexts of mission, and to the collusion and complicity of Christians and churches with empires past (as in the case of Rome) and present (as in the case of the United States of America). In the interests of those in mission fields who survived, but continue to agonize under the burdens of empires, the contributors to this work dare to re-vision the course and cause of mission. Writing from minoritized settings in Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania, the authors interweave the principles and practices of mission with the opportunities in decolonial theology and hermeneutics, minoritized and migrant Christologies, repatriation and the courage to get up and get out, indigenous insights and wisdom, mission archives, stories of resistance and endurance in zones of contact and violence, restless souls and returning spirits, and life-centered spiritual (en)countering. In Mission and Context as with previous volumes in this series—empires do not have the final word, nor are they the final world.
