Book Corporate Social Responsibility Corporate Restructuring and Firm s Performance

Download or read book Corporate Social Responsibility Corporate Restructuring and Firm s Performance written by Liangrong Zu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-10-01 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today’s globalized and competitive business environment, companies increasingly look to restructuring, mergers & acquisitions and downsizing to survive, grow and maximize profits. However, when they are not managed in a socially responsible manner, restructurings may exert the negative impact on employees, shareholders, communities, and society as a whole. The book empirically explores the phenomena of corporate social responsibility (CSR), restructuring, and relationships with firms’ performance in China. It gives an insight into how Chinese firms respond to expectations of stakeholders by making social goals a part of their overall business operations. It also gives a fresh view of the new concept of socially responsible restructuring. For those seeking to promote socially responsible practices in restructuring, the book provides a unique and stimulating analysis and touchstone.

Book Study on the Enterprise Growth Under the Transformation Economy Environment

Download or read book Study on the Enterprise Growth Under the Transformation Economy Environment written by Wendong Shi and published by Diplomica Verlag. This book was released on 2009-11 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the end of the 1970s and the beginning of 1980s, with the political and economic system changes in the world, some enterprises being operated on the basis of market mechanism have emerged in the economy which once implemented the planning resource allocation (such as former Soviet Union, countries in eastern Europe and Mainland China, countries in Southeast Asia such as Vietnam). As the operation mode which complies with the market mechanism is adopted early in terms of the property right and operation mechanism, these enterprises grow rapidly under the loose regulation of the government and in the rapid development of the domestic market. However, with the competition intensified and the internationalization degree increased in the domestic market of the transitional economy, a large number of enterprises have suffered declined business, insolvency, bankruptcy or even winding-up since the 1990s. Some enterprises which grow rapidly in the 1980s are deep in the business operation crisis or even go bankrupt in the middle and later stage of 1990s. This is best demonstrated by the companies which are listed at Shenzhen Stock Exchange, Mainland China in the early stage. According to the report in International Finance News, March 6, 2002, 9 local listed companies in Shenzhen suffered losses in 2000, accounting for 9.38% of the total loss-incurring listed companies in the country in that year. Afterwards, the number of loss-incurring enterprises in 2001 increases to 12, accounting for 11.88% of the total listed companies in the country. In addition, according to the statistics of Shenzhen Stock Exchange, of the 9 loss-incurring local listed companies in Shenzhen in 2000, 6 of them undergo the system reform and are listed before 1993, and of the 12 loss-incurring local listed companies in Shenzhen in 2001, 7 of them undergo the system reform and are listed before 1993. In 2002, of the 67 A-share listed companies in Shenzhen, there are 8 ST companies, accounting for

Book China s Third Economic Transformation

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chinese economy is currently undergoing an institutional transformation as profound as the replacement of the people's communes with the household responsibility system in the early 1980s and the emergence of township and village enterprises as the main locus of economic dynamism in the second half of the 1980s. This third dramatic transformation is the emergence of the private sector as the main source of the country's economic growth. This book discusses the key issues in private sector development in China and includes: An overview of the development of private enterprises in China Analysis of the development and emerging paths toward private enterprise Examination of the business environment in which private enterprises operate How the legal environment has changed through economic reform Managerial capabilities and state-business interactions Suggestions of policy recommendations Perhaps controversially, the contributors suggest that private sector development is necessary to maintain the dynamism of the Chinese economy and create greater employment opportunities. China's Third Economic Transformation will appeal to scholars of Asian Economics and business who are interested in the rapid growth of the private sector in China.

Book Restructuring Strategies of Chinese Firms in Distress

Download or read book Restructuring Strategies of Chinese Firms in Distress written by Amy Kam and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We investigate the valuation effect of 303 hand-collected restructuring announcements made by 100 distressed listed companies in China and provide insights on which restructuring mechanisms enhance value in this emerging market context. Asset restructuring is the most popular strategy. In the light of difficulties in officially liquidating economically unviable firms in the Chinese context, asset restructuring provides asset mobility essential for an enterprise economy. Mamp;A is value-enhancing only for non-State Owned Enterprises. In addition, asset sales are not perceived positively by the market. Our overall conclusion is that the stock market perceives that government ownership has a negative impact on companies' distress-resolution strategies.

Book China s State Owned Enterprise Reforms

Download or read book China s State Owned Enterprise Reforms written by Leila Fernandez-Stembridge and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-01-24 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much has been written on China's State-Owned Enterprises ( SOEs) reform following the restructuring impact on China's economic reform process in the last decade. However, as a major root of social and economic change, little has been discussed beyond a description of SOEs shortcomings and their overall impact on the economy. This book provides a more in-depth analysis of SOEs by assessing the transformation process of eleven specific industries, with reference to the state of competition, the influence of WTO membership and the challenges these industries face in the future. Importantly, the authors also provide a personal perspective alongside the industry analysis with eleven case studies of firms actually undergoing this restructuring process, including interviews with crucial agents of reform such as CEOs and GMs. The provision of both a macro and business perspective of SOEs reforms provides the reader with a complete and accurate insight into the economic, social and business reality of China today. China's State Owned Enterprises' Reforms will therefore be essential reading for those interested in the Chinese economy and Chinese business, as well as economists, foreign investors, MBA and EMBA students and scholars specializing in emerging or transitional economies.

Book The Chinese Century

Download or read book The Chinese Century written by Oded Shenkar and published by Pearson Education. This book was released on 2006-01-31 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By 2015, China may well have the world's largest economy. In The Chinese Century, Oded Shenkar shows how China is restoring its imperial glory by infusing modern technology and market economics into a non-democratic system controlled by the Communist party and bureaucracy. Shenkar shows why China's quest for global success differs radically from predecessors such as Japan, India, and Mexico... why it represents a fundamental restructuring of the global business system... and why it will transform the roles of participants in the global economy. He previews tomorrow's new competitive ground rules, terms of employment, and consumption patterns, and shows how Chinese ascendancy is redrawing political, economic, and social battle lines. Learn why the U.S. is most vulnerable to China's ascent... how China's disregard for intellectual property creates sustainable competitive advantage... how China's growth impacts global businesses and individual purchasing decisions. Above all, Shenkar shows what you must do to survive and prosper in "The Chinese Century."

Book Resolving China s Corporate Debt Problem

Download or read book Resolving China s Corporate Debt Problem written by Wojciech Maliszewski and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2016-10-14 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corporate credit growth in China has been excessive in recent years. This credit boom is related to the large increase in investment after the Global Financial Crisis. Investment efficiency has fallen and the financial performance of corporates has deteriorated steadily, affecting asset quality in financial institutions. The corporate debt problem should be addressed urgently with a comprehensive strategy. Key elements should include identifying companies in financial difficulties, proactively recognizing losses in the financial system, burden sharing, corporate restructuring and governance reform, hardening budget constraints, and facilitating market entry. A proactive strategy would trade off short-term economic pain for larger longer-term gain.

Download or read book Avoiding the Fall written by Michael Pettis and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is increasingly accepted that China's growth model, which served it very well in the 1980s and 90s, reached its useful limit during the past decade. As a result, although China continued to post spectacular GDP growth numbers, this growth came with a cost - unsustainable imbalances and even faster growth in debt. With China's new generation of leaders formally taking power in early 2013, it clearly must restructure its development model to achieve a very different kind of growth. A Chinese rebalancing is inevitable and the most interesting question is how it will occur. In Restructuring the Chinese Economy, Michael Pettis outlines six paths that China can follow - the only logical paths that lead ultimately to rebalancing - and discusses the political and economic strengths and limitations of each. These paths range from debt crisis and negative growth, at one extreme, to a massive wealth transfer from the state to Chinese households, with steady growth for many years, at the other. How Beijing chooses will determine China's position in the world for the rest of the century.
