Mayer outlines specific steps for discovering what is holding you back and offers hands-on exercises for increasing motivation to reach those goals. Book excerpt: War has a way of shooting holes in your best-laid plans. Sgt. 1st Class Gregory Stube (Ret.) suffered life-changing wounds during the battle of Operation Medusa in Afghanistan in 2006, but using the Green Beret methods he learned in the Special Forces, Stube knew he could conquer anything. Service in the elite A-Team teaches you to come up with smart, well-researched, and flexible battle plans for completing the mission—every mission. Even when that mission is to spend an arduous year in a hospital recovering from being blown up, badly burned, and shot multiple times. Greg shares the leadership principles and values he learned as a member of an A-Team and teaches us how to apply Special Forces strategies to our personal and business lives. Conquer Anything is a Special Forces book, but even more than that it is a leadership book designed to help each of us achieve the highest goals possible in our professional and private lives. “The greatest leaders I know lead by example. They are role models who adhere to standards they set for others and never ask more of them than they demand of themselves. Great leaders don’t just “manage” or “motivate.” They inspire courage, tenacity, perseverance, resilience, and commitment in all who work with them. Greg Stube is such a leader—and an American Hero. In Conquer Anything Greg draws on a lifetime of “lessons learned” as a highly decorated U.S. Army Special Forces medic in this lucid, straightforward resource for parents, teachers, students, athletes, employers, supervisors, and soldiers. If “success” is in your vocabulary, Conquer Anything is a must read.”—Oliver L. North, Lt Col USMC [Ret.], Host of War Stories on FOX News

Book Nobody Is Coming to Save You

Download or read book Nobody Is Coming to Save You written by Scott Mann and published by Center Street. This book was released on 2024-10-01 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A New York Times bestselling author and leadership coach shares his invaluable secrets for successfully motivating people to action in low-trust, high-stakes environments. For years, Scott Mann worked in low-trust, high stakes environments where nobody was coming to save him, his men, or the exhausted majority of Afghans they served. There, he learned that the best way to get big sh*t done and bridge vast divisions is to meet people where they are, not where you want them to be. He calls this approach Rooftop Leadership. Wherever you live, work, or play—in real estate, in corporate sales, in HR, for a community volunteer group, in a non-profit, in politics—the hardest thing to find these days is authentic connection with other people. The social trends and fraying of civil society after more than two years of prolonged isolation from Covid, mass technology, organizational strain, and blinking-red stress levels on our emotional dashboards have taken a toll that those of us in our own exhausted majority are only beginning to understand and appreciate. With inspiring stories about his experiences in the military and candid reflections on civilian life, Scott Mann connects readers to a more ancient, primal aspect of their nature rendered dormant by the modern world. Nobody Is Coming to Save You shows readers how to navigate the Churn that's dividing us and learn to make new and deeper connections to ourselves, to each other, and to the natural world around us.

Book excerpt: This book describes what life was like as a United States Army Special Forces "Green Beret" on an A-team in the early-mid 1960's, including the author's 7 months on a mission in Ethiopia during their border war with Somalia in 1964. U.S. Army Special Forces had just begun accepting SF trainees from raw recruits in 1962, when he volunteered. Prior to that, only non-commissioned officers (NCOs) could join SF.The second of a series of three books that describe Dick's experiences as a "Green Beret," most of book #2, "Experiences as a Green Beret, Pre-Vietnam" will show the readers what most Special Forces troops did to further their training and expertise, as well as describe a somewhat typical mission in the remote area of a foreign country. Aiding in Dick's recollections of his past come mostly from the countless letters home, which were saved by his mother, and are now his. He also still has more than five hundred photographs he took along his journey, especially in Ethiopia (200+) and South Vietnam (300+). Added to that is more than a hundred binders of research materials to support his historical memories."Part two of Richard "Slurp" James' trilogy is rich with detail in his evolution to become a Green Beret -- America's elite, most highly trained soldier during the Vietnam War. He interweaves the happenings in America, Vietnam and the world, with the account of his time with the first SF group in Ethiopia, life as a Green Beret demolitions specialist and aviation enthusiast pre-Vietnam. After reading part two I firmly believe that long after we have been buried, historians will turn to his trilogy to capture not only the valor and integrity of being a Quiet Professional, but to feel the pulse of America's heartbeat and civil unrest of the Vietnam War era in America and Southeast Asia."--John Stryker Meyer, author of SOG Chronicles, Across the Fence, and On the Ground

Download or read book Colt Terry Green Beret written by Charles D. Patton and published by Texas A&M University Press. This book was released on 2005-06-21 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through one man’s career, Colt Terry, Green Beret portrays the birth and development of America’s most elite fighting unit. The 10th Special Forces Group was the first of the Green Beret units. Its five hundred men, all Airborne and mostly Rangers, received extensive training in everything from specialized weapons to uncommon languages. Their primary mission was to train and lead indigenous guerillas operating in enemy territory. Second Lieutenant Colt Terry, who had joined the 82nd Airborne in 1947, had already done this in Korea. As a volunteer in the 10th SFG, he carried on his service, working with the Montagnards in Vietnam and The Khmer in Cambodia. He fought at Pleiku, Duc Co, and Plei Me, and he ferried supplies and weapons on elephants into Cambodia. From his enlistment as a buck private in 1945 to his retirement as a lieutenant colonel in 1970, Terry served five tours in combat, trained guerrillas, and earned two combat infantry badges, a Purple Heart, and two Bronze Stars. His experiences contributed to Special Forces’ expertise in ambushes and killing techniques. Even as an officer, Terry never shied away from going deep into the jungle in search of the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Army. He personally organized a successful effort to save hundreds of men in one of Special Forces’ most critical A-team camps. As one of the original Green Berets, Terry helped set the standards by which these units have become known. Anyone who has ever wondered what the Green Berets were like during their first two decades will appreciate the riveting action and close-up detail of Terry’s true-life story . This is the story of Curtis “Colt” Terry, one of the original Green Berets. The information for this story came primarily from Colt’s personal recollections documented in taped interviews. Many facts were confirmed with fellow paratroopers, military historians, and Special Forces NCOs and officers who served with him. Colt gave the interviews to leave a record of his experiences. After hearing Colt’s story, the author felt that other people should know this man.

Book US Army Green Beret in Afghanistan 2001 02

Download or read book US Army Green Beret in Afghanistan 2001 02 written by Leigh Neville and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2016-04-21 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In October 2001 the most militarily advanced nation on earth came into conflict with one of the least developed nations as American forces poured into Afghanistan. The tip of the spear was drawn from the US Special Forces community, and largely from the units of the United States Army Special Forces – the famous Green Berets. Together with the Special Activities Division of the CIA and the Afghan Northern Alliance, they overthrew the Taliban in a lightning campaign that redefined modern warfare. This new study reveals the grueling Green Beret training and preparation, the specialized equipment they used in the field and traces their deployment throughout the campaign, from the first insertion of forces through to the fall of Kabul and Kandahar, the Taliban uprising at the notorious Fort of War in Mazar-e-Sharif, and the clearance of Tora Bora and Operation Anaconda in the Shahikot Valley.

Book Weapon of Choice

Book excerpt: "The purpose of this book is to share Army special operations soldier stories with the general American public to show them what various elements accomplished during the war to drive the Taliban from power and to destroy al-Qaeda and Taliban strongholds in Afghanistan as part of the global war on terrorism. The purpose of the book is not to resolve Army special operations doctrinal issues, to clarify or update military definitions, or to be the 'definitive' history of the continuing unconventional war in Afghanistan. The purpose is to demonstrate how the war to drive the Taliban from power, help the Afghan people, and assist the Afghan Interim Authority (AIA) rebuild the country afterward was successfully accomplished by majors, captains, warrant officers, and sergeants on tactical teams and aircrews at the lowest levels ... This historical project is not intended to be the definitive study of the war in Afghanistan. It is a 'snapshot' of the war from 11 September 2001 until the middle of May 2002"--Page xv.
