Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revelation is probably the most read, but least understood book of the Bible. History is replete with examples of how not to interpret it, and books featuring end-of-world prophecy claims based on Revelation consistently top the bestseller lists. But how can the message of such an enigmatic book be applied to our lives today? In Discipleship on the Edge, Darrell W. Johnson drives home the challenging and practical message of Revelation in thirty carefully crafted sermons. Paying careful attention to the original context of Revelation and the circumstances surrounding its composition, Johnson shows that the book is not a "crystal ball" but rather a "discipleship manual." Thoroughly researched and yet accessible, this collection of sermons is a helpful resource for pastors and small group leaders who are looking for models to help them preach and teach the message of Revelation in a time when there is much confusion about the end times. Darrell W. Johnson serves as Scholar-in-Residence at The Way Church and Canadian Church Leaders Network in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. A popular conference and retreat speaker, he has also served as the preaching pastor for a number of congregations in North America and the Philippines, as well as serving as Adjunct Professor of Preaching for the Doctor of Ministry program at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, and a Teaching Fellow at Regent College. His other books include Experiencing the Trinity and Fifty-Seven Words That Change The World.

Book Revelations

    Book Details:
  • Author : Elaine Pagels
  • Publisher : Penguin
  • Release : 2012-03-06
  • ISBN : 110157707X
  • Pages : 278 pages

Download or read book Revelations written by Elaine Pagels and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2012-03-06 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A startling exploration of the history of the most controversial book of the Bible, by the bestselling author of Beyond Belief. Through the bestselling books of Elaine Pagels, thousands of readers have come to know and treasure the suppressed biblical texts known as the Gnostic Gospels. As one of the world's foremost religion scholars, she has been a pioneer in interpreting these books and illuminating their place in the early history of Christianity. Her new book, however, tackles a text that is firmly, dramatically within the New Testament canon: The Book of Revelation, the surreal apocalyptic vision of the end of the world . . . or is it? In this startling and timely book, Pagels returns The Book of Revelation to its historical origin, written as its author John of Patmos took aim at the Roman Empire after what is now known as "the Jewish War," in 66 CE. Militant Jews in Jerusalem, fired with religious fervor, waged an all-out war against Rome's occupation of Judea and their defeat resulted in the desecration of Jerusalem and its Great Temple. Pagels persuasively interprets Revelation as a scathing attack on the decadence of Rome. Soon after, however, a new sect known as "Christians" seized on John's text as a weapon against heresy and infidels of all kinds-Jews, even Christians who dissented from their increasingly rigid doctrines and hierarchies. In a time when global religious violence surges, Revelations explores how often those in power throughout history have sought to force "God's enemies" to submit or be killed. It is sure to appeal to Pagels's committed readers and bring her a whole new audience who want to understand the roots of dissent, violence, and division in the world's religions, and to appreciate the lasting appeal of this extraordinary text.

Book The Great Unveiling

    Book Details:
  • Author : Michael Kelley
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2019-12-13
  • ISBN : 9781674107455
  • Pages : 130 pages

Download or read book The Great Unveiling written by Michael Kelley and published by . This book was released on 2019-12-13 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book of Revelation is one of the most misunderstood and neglected books in the Bible, partly because of its Apocalyptic genre which is a literary form that is not used anymore. Yet, it is also misunderstood because most Christians are unfamiliar with the historical-cultural context of first-century Christianity and Judaism in the Roman Empire. The Revelation is far more relevant for Christian's daily lives as the church advances the gospel throughout the world than most people realize, specifically written to believers "to unveil" the reign of their Lord over the earth and the binding of Satan, the Spirit and the Bride (through the proclamation of the gospel) opening the eyes of the nations that he had blinded over the course of centuries. This commentary seeks to quote and cite as much of the history as possible to bring out the book's first-century meaning and present applications.

Book Who Is the Great Whore in the Book of Revelation

Download or read book Who Is the Great Whore in the Book of Revelation written by Bishop Lee Presiding Prelate and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-09-14 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study about the whore of Babylon is such an important one for the time we are living in, and it is our sincere prayer that you will look at this with open eyes and let God guide you and teach you His truth. I cannot strongly enough state the importance of this study. The final judgment is soon to fall upon this world and upon Babylon, so you really need to find out who the whore is to make sure you are not joined with her and also receive of her plagues. This is not a message of hate, but of love. Not worldly love, but true love from God. A love that saves! Jesus Christ is waiting with open arms for you! Do you believe this monster is simply a backslidden or apostate church like many of our Christian leaders tell us, or is she the whore of Revelation? Let's look at scripture and check it out for ourselves. Today the Vatican boasts almost one billion followers. What's that, almost a quarter of the earth's population? And it says, "With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication." If you look back in history you will see that almost every king has had political, economic or religious ties with the Vatican, starting with Constantine the Great, who was actually the first pope, and presided over the first council. Constantine was never saved. (That was another smokescreen.) Most nations today have diplomatic representatives in the Vatican. "And the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication." We have just looked at the madness of World War II and how it was set up by the Jesuits. And the Bible goes on to say, "The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet." These are the official colors of the Vatican. "And decked with gold and precious stones and pearls." Did you know the Vatican is the wealthiest organization on the face of the earth? Later in the book I'll go into this in more detail. The Bible goes on to say, "And on her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT." Where did Catholicism come from? If you do a little research you'll find it came from the ancient Babylonian mysteries, and you can trace it right back to Nimrod and Semiramis. Only the names were changed to make it look like a Christian organization. Who is the mysterious "Harlot" of Revelation 17? This is a puzzle to millions of people-and even to many theologians. Yet the Word of God devotes most of an entire chapter-plus many references elsewhere-to this vital topic. Whoever this great "Harlot" is, she is very powerful. She has, and will in the future, MARTYR untold millions of human beings. She is destined to dramatically CHANGE the lives of every one of you who read this article! This Harlot sits astride a system encompassing many nations and peoples, "Then he said to me, 'The waters which you saw, whEre the Harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues'" This cup full of abominations is also a symbol that the sins of this church are so great and full that it is now a fallen, apostate church that can never be the church of Christ Jesus. And the sins of the Roman Catholic Church are immense, with it's idolatry, murder, child abuse and so on, that she has committed throughout her history, and CONTINUES to commit. What is the real church & how do I know what is real and fake in the church. This is a must read study guide book to better understand this GREAT WHORE.

Book On Divine Revelation The Teaching of the Catholic Faith Vol One

Download or read book On Divine Revelation The Teaching of the Catholic Faith Vol One written by Fr. Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange and published by Emmaus Academic. This book was released on 2022-05-27 with total page 953 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In On Divine Revelation—one of Garrigou-Lagrange’s most significant works, here available in English for the very first time—he offers a classic treatment of this foundational topic. It is an organized and thorough defense of both the rationality and supernaturality of divine revelation. He presents a careful yet stimulating account of the scientific character of theology, the nature of revelation itself, mystery, dogma, the grace of faith, the powers of human reason, false interpretations thereof (rationalism, naturalism, agnosticism, and pantheism), the motives of credibility, and much more. Though written a century ago, On Divine Revelation will restore confidence in theology as a distinct and unified science and return focus to the fundamental questions of the doctrine of revelation. It also serves as a salutary corrective to contemporary theology’s anthropocentrism and concern with what is relative in revelation and religious experience by reorienting our theological attention to what is most certain, central, and sure in our knowledge of divine revelation: the Triune God who has revealed his inner life and salvific will. Readers will see the great splendor of the gift of divine revelation: radiant with credibility before the gaze of reason and drawing our supernatural assent to the mysteries through the gift of faith. As Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. observes, “On Divine Revelation . . . is a stunning work of inestimable value. No other subsequent work on this topic has come close to meeting it (much less surpassing it).”
