Book The Great Indian Matrimonial Tamasha

Download or read book The Great Indian Matrimonial Tamasha written by Himika Ganguly and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2016-02-11 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: She looked at her watch for the sixth time and prayed silently for the eighth time. Ten minutes to call it an hour. Her mother wouldn’t go to sleep happily tonight. Her father would once again get sandwiched in a nasty debate between the two most important women in his life. But then again, such is living. In the DOTCOM MARRIAGE ERA. Welcome to the life of Ms Bengal Rani who has set out on one of the most arduous tasks of her life, which is finding a man to marry. Actually happily marry. Now, the most obvious option for her is the booming online shaadi bazaar of our country. Problem solved? Not really. In fact, it gets more twisted here on. A day dreamer, Mr Telecom Raja, with a bucket list so bizarre that can be safely named cringe worthy, or a narcissist Aeroplane Mistri who meets every girl with a pre-conceived notion that she is already smitten. These and more are specimens of the prospective bridegrooms who Bengal Rani is encountering. And with raised eyebrows realising a simple fact of life — All men are not from Mars. Some escaped Black Hole and need to be sent back to it. On urgent basis! Are these the experiences of only one woman? No, for a book like this, a lot of interesting, intelligent and slightly frustrated women need to meet…gossip…and bitch. Are these experiences 100% real? I leave that on you to decide. But then, I rarely lie. So welcome to my Tamasha — a Pandora ’s Box of extreme encounters!

Book Keywords for India

Download or read book Keywords for India written by Rukmini Bhaya Nair and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2020-02-20 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What terms are currently up for debate in Indian society? How have their meanings changed over time? This book highlights key words for modern India in everyday usage as well as in scholarly contexts. Encompassing over 250 key words across a wide range of topics, including aesthetics and ceremony, gender, technology and economics, past memories and future imaginaries, these entries introduce some of the basic concepts that inform the 'cultural unconscious' of the Indian subcontinent in order to translate them into critical tools for literary, political, cultural and cognitive studies. Inspired by Raymond Williams' pioneering exploration of English culture and society through the study of keywords, Keywords for India brings together more than 200 leading sub-continental scholars to form a polyphonic collective. Their sustained engagement with an incredibly diverse set of words enables a fearless interrogation of the panoply, the multitude, the shape-shifter that is 'India'. Through its close investigation and unpacking of words, this book investigates the various intellectual possibilities on offer within the Indian subcontinent at the beginning of a fraught new millennium desperately in need of fresh vocabularies. In this sense, Keywords for India presents the world with many emancipatory memes from India.

Book Spiritual Relationships

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the bestselling author of Spiritual Parenting & Spiritual Pregnancy How to find true love by finding yourself… Following the immense success of Spiritual Parenting and Spiritual Pregnancy, Gopika Kapoor now presents Spiritual Relationships. This book steers you through the entire process of a romantic relationship, starting with the search for love and the complexities of the dating game to finding love and getting married. But what makes this book different is its perspective: Gopika Kapoor believes that for relationships to be true and lasting, they need to have a spiritual foundation. The basis of a spiritual relationship lies within the self: you can’t understand someone else until you can understand yourself; and you can’t truly love someone unless you love yourself. Therefore, the crux of a spiritual relationship with another person is a relationship with yourself! While this is a profound concept that the author explores in the book, she does it with lightness and humour. She is also realistic, and finds ways to reconcile the spiritual path with everyday living; the result is a practical guide to a spiritual relationship. So, if you are looking for true love, have just been dumped, are wondering if the person you are with is Mr/Miss. Right or are planning the Great Indian Wedding, this book is just what you need!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers the first social and intellectual history of Dalit performance of Tamasha—a popular form of public, secular, traveling theater in Maharashtra—and places Dalit Tamasha women who represented the desire and disgust of the patriarchal society at the heart of modernization in twentieth century India. Drawing on ethnographies, films, and untapped archival materials, Shailaja Paik illuminates how Tamasha was produced and shaped through conflicts over caste, gender, sexuality, and culture. Dalit performers, activists, and leaders negotiated the violence and stigma in Tamasha as they struggled to claim manuski (human dignity) and transform themselves from ashlil (vulgar) to assli (authentic) and manus (human beings). Building on and departing from the Ambedkar-centered historiography and movement-focused approach of Dalit studies, Paik examines the ordinary and everydayness in Dalit lives. Ultimately, she demonstrates how the choices that communities make about culture speak to much larger questions about inclusion, inequality, and structures of violence of caste within Indian society, and opens up new approaches for the transformative potential of Dalit politics and the global history of gender, sexuality, and the human.
