Book Mastering The Business of Medicine The Doctor Patient Relationship

Download or read book Mastering The Business of Medicine The Doctor Patient Relationship written by Robert A. Kayal MD FAAOS FAAHKS and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2024-05-22 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have wanted to write a book about the “business of medicine” for a long time now. “Why?”, you ask. The reason is because I have seen so many doctors give up, switch careers, or sell out to large conglomerates of health care employers because the physicians were not able to succeed on their own. This has been so hard for me to watch. Unfortunately, the business of medicine is not taught in, or part of, medical school curriculums. As such, these poor health care providers just went into the profession blind. They had no idea what to expect. There was no guidance or direction provided during their training. There was just ignorance and naiveté when they came out into the world. They were left to figure it out for themselves and just told to flap their wings and fly. Well, I want to change that. I think it should be. In fact, I think it must be, and I’m on a mission to make it happen. In medical school, there are no business courses about etiquette, people skills, public speaking, finance, accounting, billing, collections, accounts receivable, accounts payable, banking, wealth management, money management, budgeting, investments, economics, business management, human resources, etc. All these courses should be required. My goal is to make this book mandatory reading material on every health care provider’s educational curriculum. It will not only teach you how to succeed in the business of medicine, but in the specialty of medicine, as well.

Download or read book The 35 Doctors of the Church written by Rev. Fr. Christopher Rengers and published by TAN Books. This book was released on 2014 with total page 776 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 35 Doctors of the Church presents the most comprehensive and fascinating collection available anywhere on the lives and labors of the saints who have been declared the Church's Doctors. From St. Athanasius (c. 297-373) to St. Thérèse of Lisieux (1873 1897), you'll find the amazing stories of 35 extraordinary men and women who are honored both for their holiness and for the eminence of their teachings about the Faith. Their work and witness are truly timeless; their lives and wisdom show us how to be holy in our own lives, how to confront the challenges of today, and how to proclaim the Gospel to a modern world hungering for Jesus Christ. Originally published as The 33 Doctors of the Church by Father Christopher Rengers, O.F.M. Cap., The 35 Doctors of the Church has been updated by Dr. Matthew E. Bunson, K.H.S., to include two new chapters about recently proclaimed Doctors, St. John of Ávila and St. Hildegard of Bingen. The revised edition also includes a new Introduction with a detailed explanation of how the Church proclaims Doctors and their meaning for today.

Book The Good Doctor What It Means How to Become One and How to Remain One

Download or read book The Good Doctor What It Means How to Become One and How to Remain One written by Thomas H Lee and published by McGraw Hill Professional. This book was released on 2019-11-15 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it mean to be a good doctor today? Dr. Thomas Lee, a renowned practicing physician, healthcare executive, researcher, and policy expert, takes us to the frontlines of care delivery to meet inspiring, transformative doctors who are making a profound difference in patients’ lives—as well as their own. These revealing, intimate profiles of seven remarkable physicians are more than a reminder of the importance of putting patients first. They provide an invaluable working model of what it means to be a good doctor, how to become one, and how to remain one for the benefit of patients and colleagues alike. It’s a model that sustains physicians themselves over years and decades, combating the constant threat of burnout. These stories capture the daily challenges every caregiver faces—while highlighting the amazing personal triumphs that make their jobs so rewarding. You’ll meet Dr. Emily Sedgwick, the breast radiologist who redesigned screening techniques to reduce patients’ fears; Dr. Merit Cudkowicz, a neurologist who is leading the way in ALS research and treatments; Dr. Mike Englesbe, a transplant surgeon who is improving how physicians prescribe analgesics in response to the opioid epidemic; Dr. Laura Monson, a pediatric plastic surgeon addressing the long-term social effects of cleft palates; Dr. Lara Johnson, a primary care physician dedicated to providing care to the homeless; Dr. Joseph Sakran, a trauma surgeon who started a movement among healthcare providers to curb gun violence, and Dr. Babacar Cisse, a neurosurgeon who was an undocumented alien and once worked as a restaurant busboy, and epitomizes what it means to be a “Dreamer.” Their stories are not only powerful but offer practical lessons and insights into developing high reliability cultures, resilience, and improvement mindsets. This is what is takes to be a good doctor.

Book The Man Who Walked Away

    Book Details:
  • Author : Maud Casey
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing USA
  • Release : 2014-03-04
  • ISBN : 1620403129
  • Pages : 282 pages

Download or read book The Man Who Walked Away written by Maud Casey and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2014-03-04 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a trance-like state, Albert walks-from Bordeaux to Poitiers, from Chaumont to Macon, and farther afield to Turkey, Austria, Russia-all over Europe. When he walks, he is called a vagrant, a mad man. He is chased out of towns and villages, ridiculed and imprisoned. When the reverie of his walking ends, he's left wondering where he is, with no memory of how he got there. His past exists only in fleeting images. Loosely based on the case history of Albert Dadas, a psychiatric patient in the hospital of St. André in Bordeaux in the nineteenth century, The Man Who Walked Away imagines Albert's wanderings and the anguish that caused him to seek treatment with a doctor who would create a diagnosis for him, a narrative for his pain. In a time when mental health diagnosis is still as much art as science, Maud Casey takes us back to its tentative beginnings and offers us an intimate relationship between one doctor and his patient as, together, they attempt to reassemble a lost life. Through Albert she gives us a portrait of a man untethered from place and time who, in spite of himself, kept setting out, again and again, in search of wonder and astonishment.

Book God s Hotel

Download or read book God s Hotel written by Victoria Sweet and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2013-04-02 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Victoria Sweet's new book, SLOW MEDICINE, is on sale now! For readers of Paul Kalanithi’s When Breath Becomes Air, a medical “page-turner” that traces one doctor’s “remarkable journey to the essence of medicine” (The San Francisco Chronicle). San Francisco’s Laguna Honda Hospital is the last almshouse in the country, a descendant of the Hôtel-Dieu (God’s hotel) that cared for the sick in the Middle Ages. Ballet dancers and rock musicians, professors and thieves—“anyone who had fallen, or, often, leapt, onto hard times” and needed extended medical care—ended up here. So did Victoria Sweet, who came for two months and stayed for twenty years. Laguna Honda, relatively low-tech but human-paced, gave Sweet the opportunity to practice a kind of attentive medicine that has almost vanished. Gradually, the place transformed the way she understood her work. Alongside the modern view of the body as a machine to be fixed, her extraordinary patients evoked an older idea, of the body as a garden to be tended. God’s Hotel tells their story and the story of the hospital itself, which, as efficiency experts, politicians, and architects descended, determined to turn it into a modern “health care facility,” revealed its own surprising truths about the essence, cost, and value of caring for the body and the soul.
