Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Graves-Ditzler: Or Great Carrollton Debate, on the Mode of Baptism, Infant Baptism, Church of Christ, the Lord's Supper, Believers' Baptism, Final Perseverance of Saints If another reason is needed in support Of public discussions and for the presentation of this volume, it may be found in the life and writings of the great Apostle to the Gentiles. Paul's whole life was but a single struggle. With his overwhelming logic, profound learning and great soul, he went right out into the front Of the battle. He confronted the Jew with weapons drawn from the Bible, and contended grandly for the divinity Of Christ; confounded the Ephesians with unanswerable arguments; over whelmed the Athenians with his mighty logic; triumphed over the Cor inthians in a profound and glorious argument on the resurrection; made the world, as weli as individual monarchs, tremble with the weight of his splendid argumentation. He never threw aside the helmet or shield, and never laid down the sword. Panoplied in the armor Of God, he was always girded and ready for the conflict - always in the battle. He went down at last in the strife, and gave up his life on the block. But as be surveyed his past life, he could truly say, I have fought a good fight. (such was the life Of Paul. And we conclude that the man who follows In the line of duty as illustrated in the life Of this great teacher of religion will not greatly err. Such are our convictions in regard to the propriety of public discussions. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book Ecclesiology written by Mark W. Fenison and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-07-25 with total page 1086 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The issue of the church is one of the most divisive issues in Christendom. In this volume, Professor Fenison restricts his studies to Pre–New Testament and New Testament uses of the Greek term ekklesia. He then evaluates the more modern universal invisible church theory in its relationship to the historical usage of ekklesia and in its relationship to the very fundamental basics of biblical soteriology. In particular, Fenison demonstrates that this post-biblical theory is not inconsistent with regard to the primary consequence of the fall (spiritual death/separation) and its only possible fundamental solution (restoration to spiritual union with God). Fenison argues that ecclesiology was never part of that solution prior to the cross and is no part of that solution after the cross. Fenison totally repudiates church salvation in every form but insists that salvation consists in its most fundamental essence as restoration to spiritual union with God, which is affected by the internalized empowered gospel as the Spirit’s creative Word (2 Cor. 4:6; Jam. 1:18; Pet. 1:23,25) without any relationship to the church or its ordinances in any way, shape, or form.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Graves-Ditzler, or the Great Carrollton Debate, on the Mode of Baptism, Infant Baptism, Church of Christ, the Lord's Supper, Believers' Baptism, Final Perseverance of Saints With all these facts before us, the Society felt justified in making arrangements to report, at great expense, the whole discussion. This we have done. And in order that there might be no doubt as to the fact that the authors are truly represented, we have paid Dr. Ditzler to cor rect the mss. Of our reporter, and read the proof as the work went through the press. Dr. Graves has done the same work free of charge. So the reader may be sure that, in the pages of this book, the speakers are fairly reported. And on the Mode of Baptism, Infant Baptism, the Church of Christ, Believer's Baptism and Final Perseverance, both parties have presented the best and clearest evidences of their faith. Download or read book Forgotten but Not Gone written by James Hoyle Maples Jr. and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-08-16 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All of us are shaped in many ways by unseen markers in our DNA. Unknown ancestral traits contribute to determination of such things as eye and hair color, height, and even a certain propensity or susceptibility to certain diseases. To some extent religious bodies are similarly the product of their beliefs and doctrines, at times and in certain ways, to beliefs and doctrines buried in the inherited make-up of that body or denomination. Landmarkism is such a genetic-like marker in the Southern Baptist Convention yet is largely unknown, and its influence is barely recognized today as a contributing factor in much of Baptist practice and belief. This book seeks to trace the origin and transmission of landmark beliefs from the time of its greatest influence to the present day when it is largely unknown but certainly present in beliefs and practices that have developed and become part of the Southern Baptist body in many instances.

Entries are organized from A to Z.
