Book ON THE WINGS OF GRACE ALONE

Download or read book ON THE WINGS OF GRACE ALONE written by Richard M. Bennett and published by . This book was released on 2015-03-11 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has often been said that all roads lead to Rome. That was true for those who contributed to the writing of this book. However, the road to Rome was a road that led them away from Jesus Christ. It was a road that led to a lack of peace with God and finally would have led them to eternal damnation. These thirty former Catholics discovered that the Roman Catholic Church was teaching things that were completely opposite to what the Bible taught. All were left hungry for more than mere tradition and rituals. These thirty found themselves asking serious questions about the Eucharist and the Church's priesthood. The system of belief behind these shared experiences is revealed in many of their testimonies. These testimonies show wonderfully the grace and mercy of God like a light in a dark place.

Book Rekindle the Gift of God

Download or read book Rekindle the Gift of God written by Roch Kereszty and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2021-03-31 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Rekindle the gift of God that is within you", Saint Paul urges Timothy years after his ordination (2 Tim 1:6). Drawing on sixty years of experience as a Catholic priest, Cistercian Fr. Roch Kereszty provides realistic spiritual, psychological, and pastoral guidance to priests and seminarians—from preaching and sacramental ministry, to parish life and spiritual direction, to chastity and poverty. Countless priests struggle to understand their role and identity in the post-conciliar Church, where laypeople have taken on many responsibilities once considered priestly. With the sexual abuse crisis kicking up a cloud of confusion and discouragement, many young men are wondering, "Why join a system in which everyone is suspect?" Meanwhile, without the right guidance, those already ordained can find themselves slipping into boredom—or even cynicism. But Fr. Kereszty knows the fire of a true vocation. With insights and examples from St. Bernard of Clairvaux, St. Thérèse of Lisieux, St. John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and many others, Rekindle the Gift of God helps priests and seminarians discover or rediscover their mission as shepherds, prophets, and teachers. A happy priest is one who lays down his life not only for his flock, but for his Lord. Father Kereszty gives patient, down-to-earth counsel on putting this ideal into practice, and he offers a glimpse of his own immense joy and gratitude for the gift of serving Jesus Christ.

Book The Catholic Priest

Download or read book The Catholic Priest written by Michael Mueller and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2013-02-21 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Father Muller states: “The great roots of all the evils that press upon society, and make man unhappy, are THE IGNORANCE OF THE MIND, AND THE DEPRAVITY OF THE WILL. Hence he who wishes to civilize the world, and thus assist in executing the plans of God's providence, must remove these two great roots of evil by imparting to the mind infallibly the light of truth, and by laying down for the will authoritatively the unchangeable principles of morality. If the hierarchy of the Catholic Church has accomplished in society this twofold task, then has it rendered itself worthy of the praises of all men, and deserves to be called the greatest, the most astonishing, the most divine fact in the history of the world - then the hierarchy of the Catholic Church is truly the light of the world, and the salt of the earth."And he continues elsewhere: “IF it is the Popes, the bishops and priests who have drawn forth the civilized nations of the world from barbarism, it is also the Popes, the bishops and priests who keep them from falling back into their former degradation. It is for this reason that our Divine Saviour calls them also "the salt of the earth." Almighty God, Who incessantly ,vatches over the welfare of His Church, has, in every century, provided chosen vessels holy Popes, bishops and priests - to defend and uphold her holy doctrine. Against Arianism, God raised up an Athanasius and a Hilary of Poirtiers; to oppose the Nestorians, God sent St. Cyril. He sent St. Augustine to beat down the Pelagians; St. John Damascene, to fight the Iconoclasts. When the world became Christian, and Catholics grew rich, and forgot the poverty of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Franciscan monks were called to teach the love of Christian poverty to voluptuous Catholics.”Father Muller extols the powers of the Catholic priest: “Every priest can say, in some measure, with Jesus Christ who sent him: "All power is given to me in heaven and on earth." The influence of this power is felt in heaven, in giving the elect; it is felt in hell, in snatching from it victims; it is felt in purgatory, ill consoling efficaciously the Church Suffering. The influence of the priest's power is felt all over the world in sustaining the Church Militant.”Fathom this privilege of the priest: “GOD has given to the priest the keys ofheaven. He has given the priest power over the faithful, over His mystic body; but He has given the priest even a more extraordinary power ,-a power so stupendous, so unutterably great, that, had we not the grace of faith, we could never believe it. He has given to the priest power over His own Sacred Body, power over Himself!”

  • Pages : 237 pages

Download or read book The Grace of Ars written by Frederick L. Miller and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: St. John Vianney, the famous Cure of Ars, is the patron saint of all parish priests. Interest in this great saint is always high, but even more because Pope Benedict XVI declared the Year of the Priest and held up John Vianney as the role model for this special year to honor the priesthood. Father Miller has taken many groups of priests and seminarians on pilgrimage to Ars, France, and there he has preached retreats on the life and ministry of Saint John Vianney. This work is based on his many years of personal experience at Ars, and the impact he has seen that the holy Cure has made on those who go there and learn from his inspiring life and work. These beautiful reflections focus on various aspects of the life of Vianney and the way he lived out his priesthood in the aftermath of the French Revolution - a very difficult time for Catholic priests in France. This book reveals that specific Grace of Ars - the unique movement of God that drew hundreds of thousands of people to Ars during his life there to receive the sacrament of reconciliation from Vianney and find peace with God and neighbor. The book will help anyone make a pilgrimage to the very place where St. John Vianney labored so long and so heroically for the good of souls and the love of God - and often in direct battle with Satan. The reader will have the experience of making a retreat in the presence of the saintly Cure, and be able to ponder the Grace of Ars, and especially what he has to say to Priests of the 21st century - another difficult time for those who seek to be faithful to their promises to God and build up the Church of Christ. This work will strengthen priests and seminarians in their vocations and help young men hear the call of Christ to follow him as priests. Laymen will find in this reflection on St. John Vianney a model parish priest who will inspire all to love the priesthood and pray for the sanctification of all priests, and through his holy example the Cure of Ars will help all understand that the priesthood is the love of the Heart of Jesus.

Book Roman Catholicism in the Light of Scripture

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Which is the true way of salvation? Is it from Christ direct to the sinner, or is it through priests and sacraments and church? The answer is of vital importance, for the eternal destiny of souls is at stake. This book attempts to examine the wide field of questions in dispute. It is not written in any spirit of disputation for disputation’s sake, or just to prove someone else is wrong, but that the truth as revealed in the Holy Scriptures, the Word of God, may be clearly seen. “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).

Book The View from the Pew

Download or read book The View from the Pew written by Alex A. Meñez and published by . This book was released on 2020-08-24 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Love stories are always captivating. And when it is the love story of a catholic priest, it is intriguing. This book is about the love story of two priests. "Both stories reveal their pain and struggles to decide against a law imbedded for centuries in the solid structure of an institution and in the cultural psyche of both laity and clergy. In the end, love and grace triumph" (From a peer review). A highlight of this book is my reformist concern related to clerical behavior. And I speak from my experience and expertise of forty years in the ministry. Ecclesiastics should know that when I left the service of the altar, I bore no bitterness or regret. I am, therefore, their best ally to tell them the truth in love. An added weight for my credibility is because my observations are based mostly on the pronouncements of Pope Francis. The book will make some clerics uncomfortable. Many will find it comforting and uplifting. All will find it a good resource for reflection and a compelling guide for examination of conscience to hopefully bring about the clergy reform in attitude and lifestyle. I have a chapter on celibacy. Some will ask, what more is there to talk about this topic. And I say, because I present celibacy with a focus on chastity. Celibacy without chastity is a farce. Perhaps someday the church will change its law on celibacy, definitely not in my lifetime. But it will. This book will tell you why. This book can be used as a primer in the seminary formation program. As Cardinal Robert Sarah has warned, "The Christian priesthood is going through a major crisis," and at the root of this quagmire "is a deep flaw in their formation." The laity will benefit from this book, especially among the churchgoing, those engaged in religious formation, those in search of their faith's relevance or simply the spiritually hungry and the families and friends of priests all over the world. The book strongly emphasizes the equality in dignity of all Christian faithful (clergy and lay) based on the grace of baptism. This will help the laity value and uphold their proper role, viz. that together they build up the Church of Jesus Christ.

In Priest, Prophet, King, you'll discover Jesus as the Anointed One - the ultimate priest, prophet, and king foreshadowed throughout the Hebrew Scriptures. Using biblical insights and engaging stories, Father Barron affirms that we see Jesus most clearly through the lens of the Old Testament. This deeply biblical program presents the Old Testament foreshadowing of each of Jesus' three offices as priest, prophet and king and then describes how Jesus is the fulfillment of each as seen in the New Testament. The Study Guide includes commentary, Questions for Understanding, and Questions for Application. Through this presentation of Priest, Prophet, King, you will better understand Jesus, become more familiar with Scripture, and realize your own priestly, prophetic, and kingly mission.
