Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Son of Man: Or Contributions to the Study of the Thoughts of Jesus Hat Jesus is reported in all our gospels - the fourth as well as the three - to have frequently spoken of Himself in the third person as the Son of Man is known to all. But why He thus spoke, and in what sense He used the term, are disputed questions. In the Greek of our gospels it is, literally, the son of the man. What it was in the Aramaic of Christ's words critics are not agreed. Many maintain that He used it as the title of a Messianic, or (which is not the same thing) a supernatural, character. Some assert that He did not use it at all. Being therefore confessedly a subject of critical controversy, the interpretation of Christ's title is liable to be put on one side by some readers of the Gospel who, though careful students of its thought, are not experts in the verbal criticism bearing on it. They may be disposed to decide that about the subject of so much discussion and divergent opinion it is not their business to spend time, since there can be little fruit for their labour. In arrest of this decision, the author ven tures to Offer the following considerations. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This may seem a limited and monotonous subject, likely to be soon exhausted, but we are never at the end of it. We, preachers, are like young children learning to speak, and can use only half words and quarter words." - Luther. Book Jesus the Son of God

Download or read book Jesus the Son of God written by D. A. Carson and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2012 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although it is a foundational confession for all Christians, much of the theological significance of Jesus's identity as "the Son of God" is often overlooked or misunderstood. Moreover, this Christological concept stands at the center of today's Bible translation debates and increased ministry efforts to Muslims. New Testament scholar D. A. Carson sheds light on this important issue with his usual exegetical clarity and theological insight, first by broadly surveying Jesus's biblical name as "the Son of God, and then by focusing on two key texts that speak of Christ's sonship. The book concludes with the implications of Jesus's divine sonship for how modern Christians think and speak about Christ, especially in relation to Bible translation and missionary engagement with Muslims across the globe.

Book Jesus Son of God Son of Man Jesus Is Our Pattern

Download or read book Jesus Son of God Son of Man Jesus Is Our Pattern written by J. Harlow Holmes and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2019-05-10 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a Commentary like no other today. It reveals the true nature of Jesus as He walked on the earth and fulfilled the very necessary role that was required because of Adam’s fall. It fulfills the passage of I Corinthians 15:45—the last Adam. Jesus had to be like us in order to take our place. He was not God in flesh as preached today from most pulpits. He was the manifestation of God, His Father. Manifestation is the KEY word. He was God manifested in the flesh. When the Apostles saw Jesus in action they saw God the Father, John 14:9-11. We can see God in Jesus. Another important message is that Jesus was our pattern. We, the Church, should be doing the things that He did today. He Said to the disciples:“As the Father sent Me, so send I you.”John 20:21. Then He included us in His prayer in John 17:20-21. The Bible has been translated by those who believe in the doctrine of the Trinity. This came from Constantine and the first Nicene Creed in the 300s AD with the penalty of death involving over 200 Bishops if rhey did not sign it as he commanded. It seems that two were willing to die for the truth. All that was required to emphasize that Jesus was God just involved some prepositions and pronouns. However, the bulk of Jesus’ confession indicates otherwise. The Prologue is the foundation of proof that Jesus was a human being just like you and me. The Lord told me that most everyone is a product of someone else’s teaching today. However, when I was first filled with the Holy Spirit in my mid-twenties Jesus told me to let Him teach me. I have been faithful to that command for nearly 65 years. This commentary is the result of that command.

Book Jesus Son of God Classic Reprint

Download or read book Jesus Son of God Classic Reprint written by Frank Warburton Lewis and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Jesus, Son of God To understand the life of Jesus, it is not enough to know the events recorded in the Gospels; we must see the current and the colour of the life; we must know Jesus. Here, as well as in dogmatics, we must get back to Christ, and it is necessary to go behind the words to the consciousness. It is not sufficient to know that He claimed to be and was Son of God. We must learn what this meant to Him - what was it to Him to be in this world Son of God? Then the life of Jesus was natural, lived like ours from day to day, with change and crisis, hope, disappointment, victory, and repulse. We must seek to know His heart, with the thoughts that were the light, and the faith that was the strength, of life. We must trace the connection between the days, for ever renouncing the common, if unexpressed, belief that His life was the acting out of a programme complete in all details from the beginning. Book The Message of the Son of Man

Download or read book The Message of the Son of Man written by Edwin A. Abbott and published by Christian Classics Reproductions. This book was released on 2023-12-23 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present treatise invites the general reader to take a brief and comprehensive view of the results of a long and detailed investigation into the meaning of Christ's self-appellation, in which the investigator starts from the hypothesis that Jesus was more likely to be influenced by the jewish scriptures than by the Jewish apocrypha. The latter should certainly be called in to our aid, but, in the author's judgment, not until the former have been fully utilized. IF we had to select from the gospels two or three phrases that seemed fittest to give a clue to the meaning of Christ’s deepest doctrine, “the Son of Man” would seem to claim a place in the selection. It is applied to Christ in all the four gospels, and that frequently, and near the end, as well as near the beginning, of His career. It never proceeds from a friend, never from an enemy, never from an evangelist or neutral relator, but practically always from our Lord Himself. This self-appellation is connected, sometimes with a claim to authority; sometimes with a recognition that the Claimant has been rejected; sometimes with predictions that He is destined to suffer and to die and to be raised up; sometimes with descriptions of a future Coming in glory. If we could understand why He chose this unvarying title to describe Himself amid such various circumstances, we might gain more insight into His conception of the nature of His mission.

Book The Expression Son of Man and the Development of Christology

Download or read book The Expression Son of Man and the Development of Christology written by Mogens Mueller and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-10-20 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Son of Man' is practically the only self-designation employed by Jesus himself in the gospels, but is used in such a way that no hint is left of any particular theological significance. Still, during the first many centuries of the church, the expression as it was reused was given content, first literally as signifying Christ's human nature. Later 'Son of Man' was thought to be a christological title in its own right. Today, many scholars are inclined to think that, in an original Aramaic of an historical Jesus, it was little more than a rhetorical circumlocution, referring to the one speaking. Mogens Müller's 'The Expression 'Son of Man' and the Development of Christology: A History of Interpretation' is the first study of the 'Son of Man' trope, which traces the history of interpretation from the Apostolic Fathers to the present, concluding that the various interpretations of this phrase reflect little more than the various doctrinal assumptions held by its interpreters over centuries.

Book The Son of Man Glorified

Download or read book The Son of Man Glorified written by Jeff Reintgen and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-11-30 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John 13:3132: So, when he had gone out, Jesus said, Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him. If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and glorify Him immediately. Jesus Christ, the second Adam, the Son of Man, glorified God by His obedience to the cross. This work of redemption is the basis by which all the counsels of God are accomplished. All that God does for man, all that He works out on mankinds behalf, has its foundation upon the death of the Son of Man. God will eventually gather all thingsin heaven and on earthinto the raised and glorified Christ. God will be glorified in all that He does, and He has exalted the resurrected Son of Man to His right hand in glory. This is where it begins. When this Man had finished His work, He forever sat down in regards to a completed redemption (Heb. 10:12). From this point, all Gods counsels begin to unfold. If the believer will read this book, and ask the Spirit of God to teach you, you will never be the same. All of Scripture will open up to you. The believer has been given the Spirit of God that you may know all these things and you have the mind of Christ (I Cor. 2:12,16). Now the Son of Man is glorified
