Download or read book The Gospel According to Dara written by Bill Golembeski and published by Two Peas Publishing. This book was released on 2011-08 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's 1980. Ronald Reagan is running for president, greed is good, and Franklin Fletcher wants to build a high-rise apartment complex on his deceased aunt's estate. There's just one problem. Mrs. Fletcher's will states that Franklin cannot destroy the old oak trees on her property until her basset hound and all his descendents are dead. Meet Otis, the basset with a bad haircut. Otis loves to lie between the old oak trees. Moreover, a former student of Mrs. Fletcher's, Joshua Toss, has vowed to protect Otis, to ensure that nothing happens to him or to the trees, even if it means providing the dog with a mate to continue his legacy. Unfortunately, Otis appears to have little interest in the opposite sex. So begins a race against time, money, the power of politics, and an old basset hound's lack of desire as Joshua and some friends fight to preserve Mrs. Fletcher's oak trees amid the backdrop of 1980s greed. Bill Golembeski is a teacher and author of the novel The English Setter Dance. The Gospel According to Dara is his second novel.

Book The Gospel According to Blindboy in 15 Short Stories

Download or read book The Gospel According to Blindboy in 15 Short Stories written by Blindboy Boatclub and published by Gill & Macmillan Ltd. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gospel According to Blindboy is a surreal and genre-defying collection of short stories and visual art exploring the myths, complacencies and contradictions at the heart of modern Ireland. Covering themes ranging from love and death to sex and politics, there's a story about a girl from Tipp being kicked out of ISIS, a van powered by Cork people's accents and a man who drags a fridge on his back through Limerick. Whip-smart, provocative and animated by the author's unmistakably dark wit, it is unlike anything else you will read this year. 'Mad, wild, hysterical, and all completely under the writer's control – this is a brilliant debut.' Kevin Barry 'There is genius in this book, warped genius. Like you'd expect from a man who for his day job wears a plastic bag on his head but something beyond that too. Oddly in keeping with the tradition of great Irish writers.' Russell Brand 'One of Ireland's finest and most intelligent comic minds delivers stories so blisteringly funny and sharp your fingers might bleed.' Tara Flynn 'Essential, funny and disturbing.' Danny Boyle

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gospel According to St. Mark: The Greek d104 With Introduction Notes and Indices The earliest of extant commentators on St Mark urges as his apology for undertaking so serious a task the neglect which that Evangelist appeared to have suffered at the hands of the great teachers of the Church. While each of the other Gospels had received separate treatment, the Gospel according to St Mark, so far as he could discover, had been passed by, as if it needed no elucidation or none which could not be gathered from expositions of St Matthew and St Luke. Book Ghosts Walk the Shenandoah

Download or read book Ghosts Walk the Shenandoah written by Daryl Anderson and published by Mob City Books. This book was released on 2023-05-22 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: June, 1969. It's been three years since a serial killer walked the streets of Baltimore and changed Dara Burke's life forever. Now in high school, Dara's determined to enjoy her last summer before senior year. Until her aunt insists that Dara accompany her to Black Springs, West Virginia, to attend a distant cousin's wedding. Dara doesn't want to go. She'd never even met Cousin Isobel and small towns aren't her thing. But Dara rationalizes that she'll only be gone a few days. But when she arrives at Isobel's isolated ruin of a house in the woods, she feels a foreboding. As the wedding looms, Dara counts the days until she returns to Baltimore. Then disaster strikes when Isobel's odious fiance is murdered. While the police focus on Isobel, Dara knows there's more to the story. As she digs deeper into the murder, she uncovers a terrible secret that lurks beneath the surface of the seemingly idyllic mountain town. Slowly, Dara comes to realize that Black Springs is a place that holds the darkness close. A haunted land of secret hollows and dark waterfalls, the earth here is well-nourished with the blood and bones of folk who have gone before. Now, something stirs in the Blue Ridge. Something evil. With vivid prose and haunting imagery, Daryl Anderson weaves a tale of mystery and terror that will keep you turning the pages long into the night. Dive in if you dare, but beware: once you enter the Shenandoah, you may never leave.
