This book was released on 2017-10-21 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gondreville Mystery (Une Ténébreuse Affaire), And, the Muse of the Department I have often felt disposed to ask those who would assert Balzac's absolute infallibility as a gynaecologist to give me a reasoned criticism of the heroine of this novel. I do not en tirely figure to myself Dinah de la Baudraye. It is per fectly possible that she should have loved a sweep like Lousteau; there is certainly nothing extremely unusual in a woman loving worse sweeps even than be. But would she have done it, and having done it, have also done what she did afterwards? These questions may be answered differently; I do not answer them in the negative myself, but I cannot give them an affirmative answer with the conviction which I should like to show. Book excerpt: In this bestselling book that inspired the hit movie by the same name, starring Frank Sinatra, an apparent suicide forces a PI to reconsider his most famous case Joe Leland returned from World War II with a chest full of medals, but his greatest honor came after he traded his pilot’s wings for a detective’s shield. Catching the Leikman killer made Joe a local hero, but the shine quickly wore off, and it wasn’t long before he left the police force to start his own private agency. Years after his greatest triumph, Joe has a modest income and a quiet life—both of which may soon fall apart. When Colin MacIver dies at the local racetrack, the coroner rules that he took his own life, but his widow knows better. Because MacIver’s life insurance policy doesn’t cover suicide, his wife is left broke, desperate, and afraid for her safety. She hires Leland to find out who could have killed her gentle, unassuming husband—a simple question that will turn this humble city inside out.

Book The Rampant Lions Press

Download or read book The Rampant Lions Press written by Sebastian Carter and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Founded by Will Carter in 1924, the Rampant Lions Press in Cambridge, England, established itself as one of the leading letterpress workshops in the decades after the Second World War. Will was joined by his son Sebastian in the 1960s, and the business became known worldwide for its craftsmanship and design skills. It was not strictly a private press, but rather a small publisher of fine editions and a printer for other publishers. The broad scope of its activities led to working on books by a wide range of authors and artists. For an exhibition of the Press's work at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge in 1982, Sebastian Carter compiled a catalogue of the books shown. It consisted of 89 titles, about half of the total printed so far. From then until the closure of the Press in 2008, the total grew to 321, and this Catalogue describes them all. There is a detailed description of each book, including its title page, typefaces, papers and bindings, together with any binding variants, and details of any prospectuses produced ... the Catalogue is divided into four sections covering the main periods of the Press's history, and each section is prefaced with the story of that period, so that the book is in effect a history of the Press"--Dust jacket front flap.
