Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My Dad never wanted to be a hero. No war needs to be promoted from the acts of violence and inhumanity. The men, who served in the Battle of the Bulge, need to be remembered for their sacrifice and courage. Survival and duty were the only options. This book is based on truthful events. Many gaps exist in the record. No one knows exactly what happened, except for the men, who experienced the horror. The threads are true from my Dad's testimony, other men, who served, and the historical record. From my perspective, I hope; this book presents a realistic view of combat and the aftermath for the men, who fought during the Battle of the Bulge, against the Nazis threat for domination. The war changed my Dad and the world.

Arnhem aside, there had been a long run of victories and there was no intelligence even from ULTRA to suggest a German counter-offensive.So the major December attack through the mountainous Ardennes by massed Panzers and infantry took the Allies totally by surprise. Fog and low cloud negated the Allies' air supremacy, English-speaking German commandos in captured jeeps created panic and withdrawal of US forces became a near rout with morale all but broken. For ten days the situation worsened and Antwerp was seriously threatened and 21st Army Group in danger of being cut off.Clear skies for the Thunderbolts and coherent counter-attacks by rapidly deployed reinforcements turned the tide in the nick of time, so preventing a catastrophic defeat for the Allies. All this and more is graphically narrated in this fine study of a pivotal battle, that so nearly changed the course of war.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This chronicle of the 106th Infantry Division follows the unit into the Battle of the Bulge and recounts the stories of GIs who fought—even after capture. On December 16, 1944, as the European conflict of World War II was reaching its climax at the Battle of the Bulge, the 106th Infantry Division was fresh, green, and right in the pathway of the Fifth German Army. Warriors of the 106th chronicles the movements and combat operations of this significant unit while sharing individual stories of the heroism and sacrifice of these young Americans in the face of overwhelming odds. From this division alone, 6,800 men were taken prisoner. But their stories didn’t end there. For the ones who miraculously escaped, there was a battle to fight. With remarkable courage, they survived debilitating weather conditions and fought a determined enemy with superior numbers. And despite all adversity, they eventually prevailed. One 106th GI waged his own personal war using guerilla tactics that caused serious consternation amongst the German troops. Another GI’s main concern was recovering his clean underwear. These stories are heartwarming, heartbreaking, nerve-wracking, and compelling. Warriors of the 106th puts readers on the front lines and in the stalags during the final months of WWII.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My son had the fortune of growing up in Italy as a military dependent. There, he learned the sport of soccer through relationships made with his Italian friends. His book, All-American, reveals how he used his knowledge of American sports on the soccer field in order to lead a team that would put together a streak of ten consecutive years of not losing a single regulation game by more than one goal! And now, this book called Soccer Lions of the Nosce Hostem contains the military intelligence and counterintelligence with regard to strategic and tactical deployment of member of his team. This is the second half of the story in explaining exactly how military philosophies based on actual events were used by his Grover Cleveland soccer team out of Ridgewood, New York City. But beware, the faint of heart. My son is now in possession of this legacy called Soccer Lions of the Nosce Hostem. With it, he can help you understand the crucial knowledge gained from knowing your opponent. We are the last of the lions. We are the ghost and the darkness. Lions do not speak, but they know each others thoughts, and these we will convey. My background with regard to the writing of his book can be traced back to the years of growing up in an environment rich in experience gained from participating in the three basic America sportsbaseball, basketball, and football. Currently, I reside in Long Island with my wife, Leila, and my dogs, Gizmo and Betsy. I have two sons, Ted and Chris, and two grandchildren, Christina and Teddy.

As a combat medic, he attended to the deaths of his fellow prisoners and was a witness to the abject cruelty of his captors. Jack Ebbott and a group of allied prisoners were taken to a remote rail siding; there, ordered to dig a deep hole in the frozen ground. A boxcar was left at the siding when the hole was dug. The doors were opened, revealing the bodies of children stacked in cordwood. On the threat of death, the prisoners were ordered to bury the children in the hole. A few of the children still flickered with life. Up to this moment, Jack Ebbott thought that hed witnessed the full extent of his captors savagery. But this act hurdled beyond it all.

Book Loss and Redemption at St Vith

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Loss and Redemption at St Vith closes a gap in the record of the Battle of the Bulge by recounting the exploits of the 7th Armored Division in a way that no other study has. Most accounts of the Battle of the Bulge give short-shrift to the interval during which the German forward progress stopped and the American counterattack began. This narrative centers on the 7th Armored Division for the entire length of the campaign, in so doing reconsidering the story of the whole battle through the lens of a single division and accounting for the reconstitution of the Division while in combat.

Download or read book The Dachau Defendants written by Fern Overbey Hilton and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2004-07-15 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 489 Dachau trials, 1700 criminals of Nazi Germany faced American justice. Held in the old administration building of the defunct concentration camp, they began just weeks after the capitulation in 1945 and were completed on December 30, 1947. The defendants varied from major figures in the Reich, to doctors, engineers, and teachers, to farmers, students, and villagers. The crimes include the abuse or murder of downed American airmen and atrocities committed against victims of all nationalities in the concentration camps and transports. This study concentrates on a selection of the trials that show a broad group of representative crimes and lend themselves to an understanding of World War II German culture. In proving that the average citizen could be as devoted a contributor to the Nazi cause as Hitler, it hopes to reveal something about those who would not stand up to him, who tolerated him, or who joined him. It addresses the disturbing reality that most atrocities committed in the Hitler era were the result of personal decisions made by others than the dictator. Written from primary source documents such as letters, testimony, petitions, military records, physical evidence, and the official files and reviews of the trials, the case descriptions also provide defendants' personal details: upbringing, family life, education, career choices, their behavior during the trials, and their lives afterward. The study concludes with an appendix of all cases by number and defendant, divided by series, and a bibliography. It is illustrated with mug shots of the defendants and photographs of relevant sites and events.
