Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At Odds with the Gods: A Series of Rants' by Elaine Kingsbury By: Elaine Kingsbury Elaine Kingsbury’s first book is an honest look at the human condition as put into place by “the gods,” who apparently set it in motion intentionally by their willful and deliberate design. It is an outspoken, bold look at human behavior and appearance in modern day society. At times comical, and at times quite matter-of-fact, At Odds with the Gods is a playfully irreverent rant against “the gods” for all that they somehow allowed to go horribly wrong at “The Drawing Board.” Her heartfelt rants and complaints will resonate with many who have at least experienced the same thoughts and observations, but perhaps have never expressed them. Her book insists on the healthiness and necessity of ventilating. It is as if we are all being given permission to GO AHEAD AND RANT!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an epic clash of the higher beings marshaled by the power-drunk alpha archangel, Vincelas with the Anthros led by eighteen year old Iula and the half-breed Karina, destiny unfolds in an intricate collage of passion, pride, greed, jealousy, blood and betrayal. On one of her regular evening walks through the enthralling forests of Amazonia, Athena, the beautiful queen of the Amazons, accompanied by her maidservants is lured by a magical and colorful vanishing creature into the presence of an old hag who prophesies about the destiny of the child she conceived that fateful night in which she broke the most sacred of Amazonian customs. Eighteen years afterwards, Iula, the son of the legendary Archeropian King, during the final rite of passage to warriorhood is captured by the Amazons amongst whom is Karina, the prophesied daughter of Athena and taken to Ambrosia, the land of the fairies. As he is brutally questioned to reveal the location of their sister fairies that had been systematically kidnapped for over a decade by his clan, a group of Archeropian warriors led by his father charge into Ambrosia and precipitate an intense and bloody battle during which his father, Leon is killed and Iula moved to Amazonia as a prisoner of war. Meanwhile, Vincelas, the alpha-archangel has built a massive army composed of the higher beings; archangels and elementals and has succeeded in uniting them behind the sole aim of decimating the Anthro population for recondite reasons which will not until the very end be revealed, but especially to hunt down and kill a then unknown half-breed who is also the daughter of his general, Juno. Juno manages to slip to Amazonia to warn Athena and bids her to follow his lead to a special place where she should be safe from the upcoming destruction but she refuses, choosing to stay with her clans people and instead attempts to forge an alliance with the Archeropians in order to organize an effective counter-offensive to the attack by the higher beings. Exasperated, Juno unsuccessfully attempts an anonymous coup to strike at Vincelas coalition from the heart.Kazan, Iulas uncle is very much against the unification of the two clans as he is aware that his own ambitions for power will be thwarted with their union and cunningly draws up an elaborate manipulative scheme to keep this from happening. After his clan reconciles with the Amazons, Iula and Karina lead an integration campaign as they adventure all over the world to enchanted lands inhabited by mystical creatures and the various Anthro races to recruit their own warriors in joining the largest army ever assembled in the history of the world. Intense drama ensues on their exciting but dangerous journey even as they struggle with the dynamics of their own growing attraction toward each other. Finally, in an epic clash of the Anthros with the higher beings, notwithstanding the loss of several valiant lives, the Anthro race emerges victorious and Vincelas is magically turned into a halfarchangel, half-anthro creature; the perfect cure for his hubris. Kazan, in a final desperate attempt at claiming the throne over the newly unified Anthro race attempts to poison Iula but is outsmarted by Iulas mother and ends up drinking the poison himself.

Book excerpt: Did Moses borrow ideas from his cultural neighbors when he wrote the Pentateuch? Scholars disagree on the relationship between portions of the Old Testament and similar ancient Near Eastern accounts. Following in the footsteps of higher critics, some evangelical scholars now argue that Moses drew significantly from the worldview of his pagan contemporaries. Respected Old Testament scholar John Currid, however, pushes back against this trend by highlighting the highly polemical nature of Moses' writings. From the Genesis creation account to the story of Israel's exodus from Egypt, Currid shows how the biblical author's continually emphasized the futility of paganism in contrast with the unparalleled worldview of the Hebrews. Currid's penetrating analysis and thoughtful argumentation make this a ground-breaking resource for anyone interested in this ongoing discussion.

Book Smoke Signals for the Gods

Download or read book Smoke Signals for the Gods written by F. S. Naiden and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2015 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Animal sacrifice has been critical to the study of ancient Mediterranean religions since the 18th century. Two leading views on sacrifice have dominated the subject: the psychological approach of Walter Burkert and the sociological one by Jean-Pierre Vernant and Marcel Detienne. These two perspectives have argued that the main feature of sacrifice is allaying feelings of guilt at the slaughter of sacrificial animals. Naiden redresses the omission of these salient features to show that animal sacrifice is an attempt to make contact with a divine being, and that it is so important for the worshippers that it becomes subject to regulations of unequaled extent and complexity.

A race born with the ability to absorb energy from all living things, Keepers live proudly yet peacefully in a symbiotic relationship with their Gods. In exchange for the offerings of energy that sustain their celestial beings, the Gods in turn aid Keepers throughout their lives. But what happens when the power of energy isn't enough for one God? Driven by his insatiable hunger for more, the God of Death will do whatever it takes to control his brothers and sisters. Creating offspring more powerful than God and Keeper alike, Death uses his own sons to carry out his plans. It is up to a group of dedicated Keepers to put an end to Death's bid for dominance while saving their mates from the sadistic means of the God who will stop at nothing to gain power over all.
