Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2010, there is nothing about four-year-old Robert James Odom to suggest the accomplishments he will achieve in the future. In many regards, he is an average young boy from the Midwest, growing up on the shores of Lake Erie. But as an adult, success follows him. As a brilliant young entrepreneur, he develops a financial source to build his lifelong dream, a nightclub named Asgard where supernaturally beautiful and talented hostesses charm the patrons to purchase food, drinks, and souvenirs. Robert J. Odom Investments eventually becomes the most financially powerful force in the universe. But soon, prosperity results in disaster, power results in conflict, and friendships produce enemies. It's a world filled with conquest, politics, seduction, intimidation, religion, and miscalculation. Rioting, crime, and sex slavery are common occurrences. As the year 2142 rolls around and the three remaining races face extinction, cousins Robert J. Odom V (called Bob 5) and Desmond Jericho Rand (called DJ), believe the answers are in a time travel discovery that would involve travel to the past to influence change. The pair knows they cannot directly manipulate history, but through telepathic suggestions they can persuade the humans to make different choices. But what exactly should they change?

Book Myths and Legends of the Norse

Download or read book Myths and Legends of the Norse written by Henry Romano and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2022-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Initially, there were two Suns and two Moons, one Sun and one Moon different from the ones we see now. Its name was Sol, and its name was Mani. However, behind each Sol and Mani, a wolf always followed. Finally, the wolves caught up with them and devoured Sol and Mani. A dark and cold world followed. Those were the days of the Gods, Odin and Thor, Hödur and Baldur, Tyr and Heimdall, Vidar and Vali, and Loki, the doer of a good deed. In addition, there were the beautiful Goddesses Frigga, Freya, Nanna, Iduna, and Sif. However, when the Sun and Moon were destroyed, so were all the Gods, except Baldur, who had died before that time, Vidar and Vali, sons of Odin, and Modi and Magni, sons of Thor. Men and women lived in the world at that time, too. The world experienced terrible things before the Sun and Moon were devoured, and the Gods were destroyed. The snow fell on the Earth'sEarth's four corners and continued to fall for three seasons. Then the winds came and blew everything away. Furthermore, the people of the world who had survived the snow, the cold, and the winds fought each other, killing one another until all the people were destroyed. At that time, there was another green and beautiful earth. Although forests, hills, and habitations were leveled by the terrible winds. The fire then engulfed the land. Sunlight and moonlight were devoured. The Gods were doomed. In addition, all of these things occurred during the time of Ragnarök, the Gods' Twilight. A new Sun and Moon appeared and traveled through the heavens. They were more beautiful than Sol and Mani, and no wolves chased after them. In Ragnarök, the Twilight of the Gods, Odin had hidden them and left them to sleep. In a deep forest, a woman has not been burned by the fire, and a man has woken up. Lifthrasir was the woman's name, and Lif was the man's. Children of their children made new Earth'sEarth's people, and their children made the children of their children. There were also left Vidar and Vali, the sons of Odin, and Modi and Magni, the sons of Thor; on the new Earth, Vidar and Vali found tablets that the older Gods had written on and left for them, tablets describing everything that had happened before Ragnarök, the Twilight of the Gods. Also, the people who lived after Ragnarök, the Twilight of the Gods, were not troubled by the terrible beings who had wreaked destruction on the world, upon men and women, and who had waged war on the Gods from the very beginning.

Download or read book Norse Mythology written by Neil Gaiman and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2017-02-07 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Remarkable.… Gaiman has provided an enchanting contemporary interpretation of the Viking ethos.”—Lisa L. Hannett, Atlantic Neil Gaiman, long inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction, presents a bravura rendition of the Norse gods and their world from their origin though their upheaval in Ragnarok. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman stays true to the myths in envisioning the major Norse pantheon: Odin, the highest of the high, wise, daring, and cunning; Thor, Odin’s son, incredibly strong yet not the wisest of gods; and Loki—son of a giant—blood brother to Odin and a trickster and unsurpassable manipulator. Gaiman fashions these primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds and delves into the exploits of deities, dwarfs, and giants. Through Gaiman’s deft and witty prose, these gods emerge with their fiercely competitive natures, their susceptibility to being duped and to duping others, and their tendency to let passion ignite their actions, making these long-ago myths breathe pungent life again.

Book From Asgard to Valhalla

    Book Details:
  • Author : Heather O'Donoghue
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2008-09-30
  • ISBN : 0857730436
  • Pages : 232 pages

Download or read book From Asgard to Valhalla written by Heather O'Donoghue and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2008-09-30 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether they focus on Thor's powerful hammer, the wailing Valkyrie, the palatial home of the gods - Asgard - or ravenous wolves and fierce elemental giants, the Norse myths are packed with rowdy incident. But at the centre of their cosmos stands a gnarled old ash tree, Yggdrasil, from which all distances and times are measured. When the old tree creaks, Ragnarok - the end of the world and of the gods themselves - is at hand. It is from this tree that Odin, father of the gods, hanged himself in search of the wisdom of the dead: a disturbing image of divine sacrifice far removed from the feasting and fighting of his otherworld home, Valhalla. And an image so problematic for thirteenth century Christians that they left it out when they wrote the myths down. From Asgard to Valhalla is the first book to show how and why the Norse myths have so powerfully resonated from era to era: from Viking-age stories of ice and fire to the epic poetry of Beowulf; and from Wagner's Ring to Marvel Comics' Mighty Thor. Heather O'Donoghue, who is an expert on Old Norse culture, shows in what ways the Norse myths have impacted on the western mind, across the fields of literature, art, music and politics. She considers the wider contexts of Norse mythology, including its origins, medieval expression and reception in post-medieval societies right up to the present. From Asgard to Valhalla is a book that will intrigue and delight anyone who is keen to understand how the Norse myths have so profoundly shaped, and continue to shape, the western cultural heritage.
