Book Lands of In Ko 8 Trilogy

  • Author : Edward J. Fisher

Download or read book Lands of In Ko 8 Trilogy written by Edward J. Fisher and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-10-22 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lands of In-Ko-8 Trilogy The planet Earth enveloped Inchoate, a dark-matter world at the birth of the solar system. Each evolved separately but not independently. The civilizations of Inchoate flourished until a disaster flung the world to the Sirius star system where it remained for a millennium. Scientists finally restored Inchoate to its rightful place in the galaxy, but the resulting damage, chaos, and greed led to conflict, confusion, and wars. A few brave leaders of the blue, green, and gray people almost brought order when a totally unexpected visit by star wanderers intervened. A review by Kirkus Discoveries: Fishers complex story of faith, political schemes, death, and science brings characters new and old into the fray, and further explores characters in the strange world of Inchoate. The world of Inchoate is on the brink of disaster, leading scientists to return the dark-matter planet to its former haunt within the planet Earth. The task is made possible via the ingenious travalink, a device that allows near-light transport from one part of the universe to the other. The planets inhabitants are no sooner settled in to their old home, however, before unearthing a finding of great political and religious significanceone that threatens to shake the planet to its core. Fishers keen grasp of science helps create a believable, full-bodied civilization. The lands and characters resemble an odd marriage of J. R. R. Tolkiens Lord of the Rings saga and the more recent Dune novels. The authors descriptions of the various languages of Inchoate, and the background of various civilizations, are reminiscent of Tolkiens seminal work. His characters range from religious leaders to criminals, and like the Dune characters, each gets print time in this tale. Inchoate is a land with a varied, rich history, culled from seemingly real-life examples. The authors sharp attention to detail, in elements from language to food, brings an original sense of realism to the talesometimes it appears more of history book than fiction. A condensed, fast-paced story, whose entertaining intensity will eventually sweep readers away.

Book excerpt: Harness your darkness, get your shit together and create a truly fulfilling life. Indigo Project psychologist Mary Hoang will teach you how to face your fears and anxieties and make meaning from loss and pain, to find your true purpose, meaning, and a life that resonates for you. Hidden in the folds of human life are the stories that most of us want to keep in the dark. The shit storms, our anxieties, the failed relationships, our sadness, our fears of the future, our psychological pain. Darkness is Golden is a commentary on the universal experience of 'darkness' that weighs on us all, and how those shadows can hold the answers we seek. It's an insightful guide on how to embrace the complexity of the mind when navigating emotions and relationships. Exploring themes of meaning, death, disconnection, vulnerability, forgiveness, identity and what it means to be human, Darkness is Golden is a gripping case for the strength that we all hold, the payoffs of going 'within' and the light that we hide in our shadows. Drawing on her years of psychological and therapeutic expertise, Mary Hoang will teach you how the tools of modern psychology, combined with age-old wisdom, provide you with the alchemy to turn darkness into gold; how to traverse, hopscotch, and shimmy with the web of your secrets, stories, and skeletons - to render purpose, meaning, and a life that resonates for you.

Book Psycho in the Shower

Download or read book Psycho in the Shower written by Philip J. Skerry and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2009-04-01 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "With this book, Philip Skerry makes an ambitious and largely successful effort to restore perspective to the debate that has swirled around Psycho since Hitchcock first ripped back the shower curtain of our expectations in 1960 and plunged his knife into the collective cinematic consciousness." - John Baxter, Film International Psycho in the Shower is a multi-dimensional study of Psycho's astonishing shower scene. Philip J. Skerry shows how it may be the most significant and influential film scene of all and substantiates this claim by providing chapters on the evolution of the scene in Hitchcock's career, with particular focus on his methods for creating suspense and terror in the audience. In tracing the evolution of the shower scene, the author discusses and analyzes many films (both Hitchcockian and otherwise) that lead up to Psycho. The book places the shower scene in the cultural and social contexts of American popular culture of the 1950s and 1960s, arguing that it helped to create a revolution in both sensibility and cinematic style. Several unique dimensions help to set this study apart from other books on Psycho and Hitchcock: extensive and detailed interviews with people who worked on the film, including star Janet Leigh and screenwriter Joseph Stefano (the last significant interviews before their deaths); a close study of Hitchcock's employment of mise en scene and montage in the scenes leading up to the famous shower murder; a shot by shot analysis of the scene itself and a discussion of the numerous controversies surrounding it; and a provocative and insightful account of the writing of the book itself, which provides a unique look at the author's creative process. The book culminates with examples of how the shower scene has become embedded in the matrix of contemporary culture and the remarkable ways in which the scene affected people on first viewing.

Book The Light Room

Download or read book The Light Room written by Kate Zambreno and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2023-07-04 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Kate Zambreno has invented a new form. It is a kind of absolute present, real life captured in closeup.“ —Annie Ernaux, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature From “one of our most formally ambitious writers” (Esquire), a moving account of caretaking in a time of uncertainty and loss In The Light Room, Zambreno offers her most profound and affecting work yet: a candid chronicle of life as a mother of two young daughters in a moment of profound uncertainty about public health, climate change, and the future we can expect for our children. Moving through the seasons, returning often to parks and green spaces, Zambreno captures the isolation and exhaustion of being home with a baby and a small child, but also small and transcendent moments of beauty and joy. Inspired by writers and artists ranging from Natalia Ginzburg to Joseph Cornell, Yūko Tsushima to Bernadette Mayer, Etel Adnan to David Wojnarowicz, The Light Room represents an impassioned appreciation of community and the commons, and an ecstatic engagement with the living world. How will our memories, and our children’s, be affected by this time of profound disconnection? What does it mean to bring new life, and new work, into this moment of precarity and crisis? In The Light Room, Kate Zambreno offers a vision of how to live in ways that move away from disenchantment, and toward light and possibility.
