Book The Magic Vine Quilt

Download or read book The Magic Vine Quilt written by Eleanor Burns and published by Quilt in a Day.. This book was released on 2007-04-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grow a flower garden in beautiful fabrics to grace your bed or wall as Eleanor Burns presents Magic Vine. The patterns for Magic Vine originated in the 1930's in a newspaper quilt column written by Florence LaGanke Harris. As part of a series, LaGanke presented one new pattern each week. In addition to the pattern, the reader was treated to a fictitious story about a quilt group and their leader, Nancy Page. In the group, they shared stories, and decided on what colors to use for their flowers. Twenty-two flowers are appliqued in rows with twinning vines. It is magical because of the variety of flowers that grow on the vine. The vine grows quickly, like the magic vine in Jack and the Beanstalk. Whimsical flowers and leaves are easily made, using lightweight paper backed adhesive or the quick turn method using non-woven fusible interfacing. The outside edges are finished with a variety of techniques: satin stitch, blanket stitch, blind hemstitch, and hand applique. Give Magic Vine a traditional 1930's look using reproduction fabrics or bright and contemporary with vibrant batiks. Enjoy embellishing the flowers with hand or machine stitches, beads, and crystals. Eleanor offers assistance on fabric selection and yardage and cutting charts for all five quilt sizes. Bonus projects are included. The book is conveniently bound in wire-o to lay flat.

Book excerpt: Cassandra, the goddess of fate, has often gifted her Chosen with prophetic visions, tellings of what is, was, and could yet be.Each Chosen must chart her own course through these tales, slowly coming to understand the narrative behind her Sight, what is for her to interpret and what is merely for her to See. The goddess of fate keeps her own counsel. She alone can tell why some, by their innate nature, change the weave of fate, while others simply follow the course of their own thread. But those of us who chart signs such as these have found a single strand running through the disparate patterns of the fate-weave—above all others, Cassandra chooses storytellers. It is they she favors with the ability to See. And among the saudad, people of story and legend, when one of their own takes the threads of fate into her hands, there is no telling what new narrative she may weave. Inside these pages, those who seek Sight will find story, and those who seek story, Sight. This is the way it ever has been and ever will be. Persephonie Arelle is not yet a Chosen of Cassandra, and the story of her becoming so may not ever come to be. However, I think you will agree with me in this—her story is much more than that of one who can See. This novella begins at the end of Buried Heroes, Age of Azuria book one, and parallels the action of book two. However, readers will find it most enjoyable to finish reading Hadvarian Heist first before embarking on the journey tucked between these pages.

Brie’s never been particularly coordinated…or lucky. Who else would accidentally throw a drink at someone’s head only to miss entirely and hit a stranger behind them? And who else would have that stranger fall madly in love with them because it turns out that the drink she threw was a love potion? Yeah, probably just Brie.… Running her cheese business and dealing with a pirate ship full of demons that just moved into town was hard enough. Now on top of it, she has to convince a werewolf that she’s not really his fated mate. Though even she’s got to admit…having a gorgeous man show up and do all her chores while telling her she’s beautiful isn’t the worst thing to happen to a girl.

  • Pages : 385 pages

Download or read book Moonlight Vines written by Charles de Lint and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2007-04-01 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Familiar to Charles de Lint's ever-growing audience as the setting of the novels Memory & Dream, Trader, and Someplace To Be Flying, Newford is the quintessential North American city, tough and streetwise on the surface and rich with hidden magic for those who can see. Now de Lint returns to this extraordinary city for a third volume of short stories set there, including several never before published in book form. Here is enchantment under a streetlamp: the landscape of urban North America as only Charles de Lint can show it. "Blending Lovecraft's imagery, Dunsany's poetry, Carroll's surrealism, and Alice Hoffman's small-town strangeness," wrote Interzone on Dreams Underfoot, de Lint's Newford tales are "a haunting mixture of human warmth and cold inevitability, of lessons learned and prices to be paid."
