Book The Ghosts of Grand Detour

Download or read book The Ghosts of Grand Detour written by Rebecca Kohles and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005-03 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alexandra Markum reluctantly possesses a true gift. Hailed as a seer of the Cherokee race, she often finds herself traveling to crime scenes to help locate missing persons. Struggling to accept the reality of her metaphysical capabilities, Alex places herself in a self-imposed exile. She and her friends believe they will find serenity in the small, northwestern-Illinois town of Grand Detour, where they can live out their lives in the uncomplicated atmosphere of a refurbished, equestrian retreat. What Alex finds instead is a nightmare. The history of the Rock River area contains bloody legends of misfortunes that have kept Grand Detour in the grasp of an ancient, evil entity. At first, a few odd things happen, and Alex takes little notice, but ethereal intensities grow, and she finds herself in the middle of missing persons cases, daily ghostly encounters, and an evil that reaches out to play a deadly game of cat-and-mouse with her. To complicate matters, she must also contend with an attraction to a sheriff who stubbornly refuses to believe in the unknown--until it proves almost too late for everyone, and Alex finds herself drawn into a trap from which she fears she cannot escape.

Book Mary Jane s Ghost

Download or read book Mary Jane s Ghost written by Ted Gregory and published by University of Iowa Press. This book was released on 2017-10 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summer 1948. In the scenic, remote river town of Oregon, Illinois, a young couple visiting the local lovers’ lane is murdered. The shocking crime garners headlines from Portland, Maine, to Long Beach, California. But after a sweeping manhunt, no one is arrested and the violent deaths of Mary Jane Reed and Stanley Skridla fade into time’s indifference. Fast forward fifty years. Eccentric entrepreneur Michael Arians moves to Oregon, opens a roadhouse, gets elected mayor, and becomes obsessed with the crime. He comes up with a scandalous conspiracy theory and starts to believe that Mary Jane’s ghost is haunting his establishment. He also reaches out to the Chicago Tribune for help. Arians’s letter falls on the desk of general assignment reporter Ted Gregory. For the next thirteen years, while he ricochets from story to story and his newspaper is deconstructed around him, Gregory remains beguiled by the case of the teenaged telephone operator Mary Jane and twenty-eight-year-old Navy vet Stanley—and equally fascinated by Arians’s seemingly hopeless pursuit of whoever murdered them. Mary Jane’s Ghost is the story of these two odysseys.

UGH by Timothy James Cross is a collection of poetry written while he traveled, seeking out his own personal understanding of how things are the way they are. In this book Timothy relieves the tension in his mind on subjects such as religion, growing up, politics, solitude, nature and the American in general. This book is full of deep emotions, sometimes light and loving and at other times dark and depressing. This work is a great example of ‘leave no pebble unturned.’
