Book The Ghetto the Garden and the Gospel

Download or read book The Ghetto the Garden and the Gospel written by Joe Ader and published by . This book was released on 2018-05 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this fresh and biblical look at poverty in America, Joe Ader confronts us with a basic question: How did mankind start out in a garden that was perfect in every way and end up in the worldwide ghetto that we know as poverty? And how do we find our way out? To answer this question (and many more) the author takes us on a personal journey of discovery, introducing us to the residents of Middle Classburg, America and Povertyville, USA (which town do you call home?). Along the way, he challenges us to see poverty differently as he explains:¿How President Lyndon Johnson committed America to a War on Poverty at a time the United States Government had never defined "poverty"¿How an obscure government analyst named Mollie Orshansky became "The Mother Of Poverty" in America¿Why currently accepted definitions and explanations of poverty are fatally flawed¿Why poverty is about more than our economic status; it's about our relationship with God¿How the gospel brings us all out of the spiritual ghetto we all share while transforming our understanding of poverty and how to fight it¿How Jesus didn't come to make poor people into middle class people, but to make all people God's people¿How "The Iron Rule" needs to work alongside "The Golden Rule"¿How a handful of practical tools can help pastors, Christian workers and all of us better serve those struggling in the grip of generational poverty¿And these are just a few of the reasons why every Christian in America needs to read this book.

Book The Garden and the Ghetto

Download or read book The Garden and the Ghetto written by Jeff Deel and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2011-12-29 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When God created man, He did so with the intention that man would live in perfect harmony with his Creator and with the rest of natural creation; however, mans disobedience fractured the relationship and opened the door for pain, heartache, disaster, and even death to enter the world. Gods original intention has not changedHe still desires that His children enjoy the fullness of all He has to offer. The Garden and the Ghetto is a collection of stories that illustrate the continued effects of obedience and disobedience, as well as essays that teach us how to return to a garden existence with the One who made us. Just as disobedience pushed mankind out of the perfect environment Father created for him, obedience is the key to once again living in a spiritual place where the abundance of His blessings are real every day. The stories are based on the lives of men and women with whom we have shared victories and defeats at City of Refuge through the years. Some have decided to live in a pattern of long obedience and continue to thrive. Some are still in the process of deciding which way to go, and others chose their own way. The results of the decisions made by Russell, Roxy, Shawn, Vanessa, Harold, Greg, and Dennis are representative of all of humanity. Some choose to rely on the words and pictures of God; others choose to believe they can make their own way. The results speak for themselves

In this approach, you will realize that God is breaking into the earth not out of it. Book excerpt: Ghetto Youth's Bible provides a riveting narrative of the life of one of Jamaica's brightest sons, Garold Hamilton, PE, LEED AP BD+C,CEng, MCIBSE, SASHE, CxA, MSc. BSc (Hons). Who would believe that a youngster hailing from the tough inner-city community of Shaolin, located between two cemeteries in Savanna-la-mar, Westmoreland would rise to such prominence in the engineering field in one of the leading metropoles in the world, the United State of America?Garold's journey, as chronicled in Ghetto Youth's Bible, provides a compelling account of how dedication, determination and discipline, can leadto positive outcomes despite one's starting point in life. The book provides a rich account of Garold's journey from his humble home in the inner cityto his impressive academic, professional and philanthropic achievements. The lessons learnt from the experiences shared in the volume, will provide a blueprint that others can follow in their pursuit of greatness, despite evena humble starting point in life. The common adage: It's not where you are coming from, but where you are going that will determine your success, holds true in this book. From working on construction sites, barbering on graves, selling in the markets on weekends, to becoming one of the chiefengineers in the health care sector in Washington D.C., the surreal story of Garold's transition through the annals of time is presented. Book Ghetto Religiosity II

Download or read book Ghetto Religiosity II written by Khalil Amani and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2001-08 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary focus of this book is our religious understanding of sex. It is the author's premise that the sexual attitudes of today were erroneously and maliciously set up by men whose ultimate aim was to control the sexual practices of the ancient Jews and the rights of women. Most controversial is our present view of homosexuality and how the Bible has thoroughly misshaped our ideas about homosexual love. The case is made that homosexuality is not a sin against God but rather a conspiracy conjured up by the machinations of the ancient Levitical priests."It's high-time someone came along with a voice that speaks the truth about our 'Western' brainwashing without trying to proselytize to a particular brand of religion. Someone that doesn't skirt the issues because of denominational ties. I cannot be excommunicated, defrocked, or untenured! Neither am I bound by the Masonic sword. I speak freely! ...Many preachers merely parrot the party-line to keep their congregation in a religious coma, extracting thousands and millions of dollars to feed their ostentatious lifestyle If you want to know the truth, here it is! Peep it and recognize!" -The Author

Book Jewish Topographies

Download or read book Jewish Topographies written by Julia Brauch and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-06 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How have Jews experienced their environments and how have they engaged with specific places? How do Jewish spaces emerge, how are they contested, performed and used? With these questions in mind, this anthology focuses on the production of Jewish space and lived Jewish spaces and sheds light on their diversity, inter-connectedness and multi-dimensionality. By exploring historical and contemporary case studies from around the world, the essays collected here shift the temporal focus generally applied to Jewish civilization to a spatially oriented perspective. The reader encounters sites such as the gardens cultivated in the Ghettos during World War II, the Israeli development town of Netivot, Thornhill, an Orthodox suburb of Toronto, or new virtual sites of Jewish (Second) Life on the Internet, and learns about the Jewish landkentenish movement in Interwar Poland, the Jewish connection to the sea and the culinary landscapes of Russian Jews in New York. Employing an interdisciplinary approach, with a strong foothold in cultural history and cultural anthropology, this anthology introduces new methodological and conceptual approaches to the study of the spatial aspects of Jewish civilization.

Book The Answer to Bad Religion Is Not No Religion

Download or read book The Answer to Bad Religion Is Not No Religion written by Martin Thielen and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 2014-01-17 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you think the only logical response to bad Christianity is to leave Christianity completely, this book is for you. In an effort to help those who’ve been hurt by or turned off by negative religion, Martin Thielen explains that there is an alternative to abandoning religion: good religion. Thielen uses personal stories to illustrate the dangers of religion that is judgmental, anti-intellectual, and legalistic. While addressing the growth of the new atheism movement and the “Nones” (people that have no religious affiliation), this book argues that leaving religion is not practical, not helpful, and not necessary. Thielen provides counterparts to the characteristics of bad religion, explaining that good religion is grace-filled, promotes love and forgiveness, and is inclusive and hope-filled. This study is perfect for individual, group, or congregational study.

Book The Garden and the Gospel

Download or read book The Garden and the Gospel written by Lynn Atwell and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2011-08-05 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Without a doubt, the two greatest events that have most affected mankind were the fall of Adam in the Garden of Eden and the crucifixion of Jesus Christ upon Mount Calvary. The first event plunged man into the darkness and horrors of sin that have plagued this earth since that time; the second has restored to many of Adam's race freedom from that darkness. In the Garden man lost his innocence, lost fellowship with his Creator, and lost Paradise. On the hill of Calvary the way was opened for man's sin and guilt to be abolished, fellowship with God to be restored, and a future Paradise to be obtained. Because of one tree, man became a fallen creature with a new master, was brought into the bondage of sin, and was condemned to die. Because of the tree of Calvary, many have been made a new creature with a new Lord, have been set free from the slavery to sin, and have the gift of eternal life. The mysterious events that took place in the Garden of Eden have, for the most part, been delegated to that of a simple Bible story. Most people, I have found, have never gone beyond what they learned about Adam and Eve as young children. To them, the account is about the first man and the first woman being tempted by the serpent, eating the forbidden fruit, and thereby disobeying God. Because of their sin of disobedience they were condemned to die, and were expelled from the Garden. However, as we shall learn, the symbolism and meaning of what happened there goes much deeper; the truths we can glean from that account have a much greater impact upon our lives than most people imagine; and the understanding of those truths will greatly affect the course of our lives.Furthermore, the significance of the event that took place on Calvary's hill has never been understood by most people. Many will acknowledge a belief about a man called Jesus, who died on the cross, and somehow, by His suffering and death, paid the penalty for our sins. Millions of professing Christian believers find comfort in this story, and cling to the hope that—because they believe in Jesus—they are going to Heaven. However, as we shall discover, what most people believe about Jesus is very superficial, is ineffectual in changing their lives, and offers them no real hope of Heaven or eternal life. Even for those who have truly embraced the Gospel message, and have the assurance of being saved, their limited understanding of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus has made them spiritual dwarfs. The spiritual significance of these two events have life changing and eternal repercussions. What we understand and believe about The Garden and The Gospel will forever determine our course in this life and in eternity.
