Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: IAS Special Publication 35, Fluvial Sedimentology VII, comprises ofa series of peer-reviewed papers that were initially presented atthe 7th International Conference on Fluvial Sedimentology, held inLincoln, Nebraska on August 6-10, 2001. The 29 papers in this volume reflect the topical and geographicdiversity of exciting research conducted by fluvialsedimentologists at the beginning of the 21st century. Themesrepresented in this volume include (a) flow, sediment transport, and bedform dynamics, (b) characteristics of modern fluviallandforms, environments and systems, (c) physical analogue andnumerical modeling of fluvial systems, (d) the responses ofQuaternary fluvial systems to climate change, active tectonics,and/or sea-level change, and (e) characteristics of pre-Quaternaryfluvial deposits and evolution of pre-Quaternary fluvial systems.

Book Estuaries of Australia in 2050 and beyond

Download or read book Estuaries of Australia in 2050 and beyond written by Eric Wolanski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-08-28 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book addresses the questions: Is Australia’s rapidly growing human population and economy environmentally sustainable for its estuaries and coasts? What is needed to enable sustainable development? To answer these questions, this book reports detailed studies of 20 iconic Australian estuaries and bays by leading Australian estuarine scientists. That knowledge is synthesised in time and space across Australia to suggest what Australian estuaries will look like in 2050 and beyond based on socio-economic decisions that are made now, and changes that are needed to ensure sustainability. The book also has a Prologue by Mr Malcolm Fraser, former Prime Minister of Australia, which bridges environmental science, population policy and sustainability.

Book Australian Coastal Systems

Download or read book Australian Coastal Systems written by Andrew D. Short and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-08-29 with total page 1261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the entire coast and beaches and barrier systems of Australia. It covers the coastal processes and systems that form and impact Australia's 30.000 km coast, 12.000 beaches and 2750 barrier systems. These processes include geology, geomorphology, climate, waves, tides, currents, sediment supply, as well as coastal ecosystems. The coast is divided into tropical northern and southern temperate provinces, within which are seven divisions, 23 regions and 354 coastal sediment compartments each of which is described in detail in the 34 chapters. Within these systems are the full range of wave through tide-dominated beaches and barriers ranging from cheniers to massive transgressive dune systems together with a range of onshore and longshore sand transport systems. This is an up to date reference for the entire coast, its present condition and likely responses to the impacts of climate change.

Book Biology and Geology of Coral Reefs V4

Download or read book Biology and Geology of Coral Reefs V4 written by O.A. Jones and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biology and Geology of Coral Reefs, Volume IV: Geology 2 covers the major advances made in the geological aspects of coral reef problems. This book is composed of 10 chapters that summarize the types, economics, radiometric dating, and geological features of coral reefs. The introductory chapters present the types and distribution of coral reefs, such as fringing, barrier, and Atoll reefs. A chapter discusses the findings of the 1973 Royal Society and Queensland Universities Expedition to the northern part of the Great Barrier Reefs on the specialized Low Wooded Islands. Another chapter deals with the interrelation of ecology and sedimentation in coral reef complexes and the Coral Sea Plateau. The next part of the book discusses the techniques and results of radiometric dating of coral reefs and the coral reefs of the Solomon Islands. The remaining chapters deal with the Great Barrier Reef Province and discuss the geology of the basement upon which the reefs rest is included. The reefs are described from geological, geophysical, and hydrological viewpoints, providing a complete bibliography on the reefs. This volume will acquaint readers with some of the exciting developments in coral reef geology and will provide information that will enable them to assess the status of research in different fields.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding of rivers and their sediments, both as modern systems and as ancient counterparts in the geological record, has progressed steadily but markedly over the past several decades, with contributions by practitioners in diverse fields of geosciences and engineering. This book contains 31 papers, with authors from 13 countries, who participated in the Sixth International Conference on Fluvial Sedimentology held in Cape Town, South Africa, in 1977. True to the nature of these quadrennial conferences, the papers in this book discuss a broad range of fluvial subjects that include the character of bedforms and sediment transport in river channels, morphological and sedimentological features of modern fluvial environments, modern and ancient avulsions, internal and external controls on the behaviour of river systems, and the facies and architectural organization of alluvial deposits. A specialist volume detailing the latest advances in fluvial sedimentology. Authorship includes the leaders in the field. Book River Deltas

    Book Details:
  • Author : Liviu Giosan
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2005
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 516 pages

Download or read book River Deltas written by Liviu Giosan and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deltas are amongst the most environmentally and economically important coastal sedimentary environments. Studies of deltas lag behind research in both fluvial and deep-water depositional systems, as well as more geomorphologically oriented land studies. This knowledge lag reflects both a reorientation of the petroleum industry in the last two decades toward deep-water systems, as well as the difficulty of working across the shoreline with the traditional tools used for oceanographic or land-based work. However, deltaic studies are experiencing a renewed focus, because of their global importance in environmental and other societal concerns. This volume stems from a special session: "Deltas: Old and New", held at the Annual Geological Society of America conference in October 2002, that was convened to highlight these new directions in deltaic research.
