Book The Geology of Soils and Substrata

Download or read book The Geology of Soils and Substrata written by Horace B. Woodward and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-21 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Geology of Soils and Substrata: With Special Reference to Agriculture, Estates, and Sanitation The object of the present volume on soils and substrata is to provide such information relating to the land-surface as will be useful to students and teachers of agriculture, to those occupied in the management of estates and farms, or in sanitary and engineering works, wherein it is im portant to consider the geological nature of different sites for residences and other purposes. The subject is dealt with from a practical point of View. Under the term soils are included the subsoils and surface soils, the term substrata' being, for the sake of convenience, applied to the igneous as well as to the various sedi mentary and metamorphic formations, from which the mineral constituents of the soils are directly or indirectly derived. Prominence is therefore given to the chief mineral and lithological characters of the formations and to their economic products, little being said about their method of origin, and less about their life-history. Book Geoecology An Evolutionary Approach

Download or read book Geoecology An Evolutionary Approach written by Richard Huggett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-09-11 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Animals, plants and soils interact with one another, with the terrestrial spheres, and with the rest of the Cosmos. On land, this rich interaction creates landscape systems or geoecosystems. Geoecology investigates the structure and function of geoecosystems, their components and their environment. The author develops a simple dynamic systems model, the `brash' equation, to form the conceptual framework for the book suggesting an `ecological' and `evolutionary' approach. Exploring internal of `ecological' interactions between geoecosystems and their near-surface environments - the atmosphere, hydrosphere, toposhere, and lithosphere - and external influences, both geological and cosmic, Geoecology presents geoecosystems as dynamic entities constantly responding to changes within themselves and their surroundings. An `evolutionary' view emerges of geoecological systems, and the animals, plants, and soils comprising them, providing a new way of thinking for the whole environmental complex and the rich web of interdependencies contained therein.

Book Geomorphology and Soils

Download or read book Geomorphology and Soils written by K.S. Richards and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-05-11 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soils and sediments influence current processes, preserve evidence of past processes, indicate evolutionary phases in landscapes and provide a basis for relative and absolute chronologies. They provide an important key to the integration of short-term process studies and investigation of longer-term landform evolution. This book, first published in 1985, has been arranged to provide wide temporal and spatial coverage, with studies ranging from historic to geologic time scales and micro- to macro-spatial scales. The interdisciplinary nature of the subject is reflected in contributions from soil scientists, engineering geologists, hydrologists and geomorphologists.
