Book excerpt: What do rocks have to do with body image? With personal stories and actionable steps, body image activist and educator, Teri Hofford helps women reconstruct the relationship they have with their body using geodes as a metaphor. Portraying the harmful belief systems, thought processes, trauma, and past experiences connected with how we view and treat our bodies every day as the gritty, grey, and hardened outer shell of a geode, Teri explains how these things keep us from following our hearts and revealing our true, glittery inner selves. At the end of each chapter, she asks the reader a number of questions and gives them ways to chip away at these outer layers so that by the end of the book, the reader will understand that by embracing their imperfections, developing a positive relationship with their body, and honouring the person within, they will begin to appreciate their authentic self, thus leading them to live a more fulfilling and sparkly life.

Book Mathematical Aspects of Classical Field Theory

Download or read book Mathematical Aspects of Classical Field Theory written by Mark J. Gotay and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1992 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classical field theory has undergone a renaissance in recent years. Symplectic techniques have yielded deep insights into its foundations, as has an improved understanding of the variational calculus. Further impetus for the study of classical fields has come from other areas, such as integrable systems, Poisson geometry, global analysis, and quantum theory. This book contains the proceedings of the AMS-IMS-SIAM Joint Summer Research Conference on Mathematical Aspects of Classical Field Theory, held in July 1991 at the University of Washington at Seattle. The conference brought together researchers in many of the main areas of classical field theory to present the latest ideas and results. The volume contains thirty refereed papers, both survey and research articles, and is designed to reflect the state of the art as well as chart the future course of the subject. The topics fall into four major categories: global analysis and relativity (cosmic censorship, initial value problem, quantum gravity), geometric methods (symplectic and Poisson structures, momentum mappings, Dirac constraint theory), BRST theory, and the calculus of variations (the variational bicomplex, higher order theories). Also included are related topics with a ``classical basis'', such as geometric quantization, integrable systems, symmetries, deformation theory, and geometric mechanics.

Book The Landscape of Theoretical Physics A Global View

Download or read book The Landscape of Theoretical Physics A Global View written by M. Pavsic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-19 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today many important directions of research are being pursued more or less independently of each other. These are, for instance, strings and mem branes, induced gravity, embedding of spacetime into a higher dimensional space, the brane world scenario, the quantum theory in curved spaces, Fock Schwinger proper time formalism, parametrized relativistic quantum the ory, quantum gravity, wormholes and the problem of “time machines”, spin and supersymmetry, geometric calculus based on Clifford algebra, various interpretations of quantum mechanics including the Everett interpretation, and the recent important approach known as “decoherence”. A big problem, as I see it, is that various people thoroughly investigate their narrow field without being aware of certain very close relations to other fields of research. What we need now is not only to see the trees but also the forest. In the present book I intend to do just that: to carry out a first approximation to a synthesis of the related fundamental theories of physics. I sincerely hope that such a book will be useful to physicists. From a certain viewpoint the book could be considered as a course in the oretical physics in which the foundations of all those relevant fundamental theories and concepts are attempted to be thoroughly reviewed. Unsolved problems and paradoxes are pointed out. I show that most of those ap proaches have a common basis in the theory of unconstrained membranes. The very interesting and important concept of membrane space, the tensor calculus in and functional transformations in are discussed.

Book The Greek Mode of Thought in Western Philosophy

Download or read book The Greek Mode of Thought in Western Philosophy written by Alexander Sissel Kohanski and published by Fairleigh Dickinson Univ Press. This book was released on 1984 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maintaining that the Greek mode of thought is, in essence, the tendency to establish principles of mediation on rational grounds, the author argues that the course of philosophy from Parmenides to Hegel reveals that reason itself always gives rise to sceptical criticism that overturns whatever principles of mediation have been established.

Book Adventures In Quantumland Exploring Our Unseen Reality

Download or read book Adventures In Quantumland Exploring Our Unseen Reality written by Ruth E Kastner and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2019-04-17 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title is a self-contained follow-up to Understanding Our Unseen Reality: Solving Quantum Riddles (2015). Intended for the general reader but including more advanced material and an appendix of technical references for physics students and researchers, it reviews the basics of the transactional interpretation of quantum mechanics in its newer incarnation as a fully relativistic, realist interpretation of quantum theory, while embarking on further explorations of the implications of quantum theory. This interpretation is applied to new experiments and alleged 'paradoxes' that are found to be fully explicable once various misconceptions are identified. There is currently much disagreement about the meaning of quantum theory, as well as confusion about the implications of various experiments such as 'weak measurements,' 'quantum eraser,' and delayed choice. This book provides a clear way forward, presenting new developments and elaborating a promising interpretational approach that has completely nullified earlier objections (such as the Maudlin objection). It also explains why some prominent competing interpretations, such as 'decoherence' in an Everettian ('Many Worlds') approach, do not work as advertised.Adventures in Quantumland: Exploring Our Unseen Reality offers a fully relativistic interpretation of quantum mechanics with no discontinuity between non-relativistic and relativistic domains and shows how quantum theory allows for free will and for reconciliation of science and spiritual traditions.Related Link(s)
