Book Out of the Garden and Into the Desert

Download or read book Out of the Garden and Into the Desert written by Neal Kennerk and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-03-26 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine a beautiful garden where life is blissful, the spiritual fruits are within easy reach, and the divine knowledge of the cosmos is still close at hand. Now, imagine you are forced to leave this serene paradise, only to be cast out to work and toil in the harsh desert. The Divine is still there -if you but look for it--but now seems so far away. As much as you would like to rediscover your garden paradise, the gates have closed, allowing you no return. This is the landscape of the third grader. As a result of the nine-year change, the child's ego has taken hold in a new way, and there is no turing back, and nothing can be more difficult than trying to parent or teach a child who is going through the nine-year change. They are moody, secretive, assertive and volatile. One minute they are cuddling with you on the couch, and the next they are storming off to their room and slamming the door on the way, while we are left wondering 'what happened?' Out of the Garden takes you deep into the inner experience of children during this turbulent time, while shedding light on the purpose behind it. This book takes you through the imagery of the third grade curriculum, showing how Waldorf education truly meets the soul development of the child. Both parents and teachers will come to a greater understanding of the use of archetypal images used in Waldorf education, specifically those used during the third grade year.

Book The Garden and the Wilderness

Download or read book The Garden and the Wilderness written by David Dean Bowlby and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2013-04-01 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this well-researched, informative history, David Dean Bowlby examines church and state in the American colonies and the early national period up to the framing of the religion clauses of the First Amendment by the First Congress. Bowlby describes the history of the church and state up to that time as one involving the struggle of religious minorities against church establishments, with increasingly vocal calls for the free exercise of religion, liberty of conscience, and disestablishment. He shows that when the religion clauses were framed, people feared that the establishment of religion would lead to the domination of one particular denomination or sect, resulting in compulsory church taxes, obligatory attendance at religious services, and adherence to orthodox doctrines and liturgy. By focusing on the relationship between religious establishments and free exercise, he makes the case that the establishment clause and free exercise of religion must be taken together as a guarantee of religious liberty, because where a religious establishment was present the full and free exercise of religion was not. It was this concern that prompted the prohibitive language of the clauses—the Founders meant to protect the latter by forbidding the former.

Download or read book The Wildest Place on Earth written by John Hanson Mitchell and published by University Press of New England. This book was released on 2015-05-05 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the ironic story of how Italian Renaissance and Baroque gardens encouraged the preservation of the American wilderness and ultimately fostered the creation of the world's first national park system. Told via Mitchell's sometimes disastrous and humorous travels - from the gardens of southern Italy up through Tuscany and the lake island gardens - the book is filled with history, folklore, myths, and legends of Western Europe, including a detailed history of the labyrinth, a common element in Renaissance gardens. In his attempt to understand the Italian garden in detail, Mitchell set out to create one on his own property - with a labyrinth.
