Book The Fundamentals of Christianity a Study of the Teaching of Jesus and Paul Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2017-12-26 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fundamentals of Christianity a Study of the Teaching of Jesus and Paul This book will not attempt formal proof of the foregoing propositions. They will only incidentally, and almost accidentally, furnish subject of discussion. T hey are the fundamental data on which the entire discussion proceeds; so nearly axiomatic, in the author's View, that the mere statement of them should secure hearty assent from the thoughtful Christian reader. Indeed, his fear is that more readers will pronounce them truisms than untruths. But it is only fair to give warning that any reader who seriously dissents from them will do well to lay the book aside at this point, as it would probably be pure waste of time and mental energy for him to read further. For if these fundamentals are untrue, or even doubtful, the following pages are worthless. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2015-06-14 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fundamentals of Christianity a Study of the Teaching of Jesus and Paul The specific sources for the writing of such a book as this are, of course, the Gospels, for the teaching of Jesus, and the Epistles of Paul, for the teaching of the apostle. But we cannot understand these without taking into account the whole literature of the Hebrew people, of which these writings are an inseparable part. Though the modern Jew refuses to recognize the later collection of writings known to us as the New Testament, he cannot deny that it is as Jewish as the older collection. The apostles may have been apostate Jews, but they were certainly Jews. Only a single gentile writer, so far as we know, contributed aught to the New Testament; and even Luke was Jew by conviction, if not Jew by birth. These writings are, without exception, deeply imbued with the spirit of the people who produced them and of the times in which they were composed. Jew and Christian are agreed in regarding them as a divine revelation (though the Jew, of course, would deny this character to the later collection), but all intelligent people of both religions have come to recognize in these books a human element, as well as a divine. They were not handed down from heaven, or even dictated by God to human amenuenses, but composed under the guidance of the divine Spirit by men who had the limitations of other men. The writers were not of a uniform grade of mentality or spiritual insight, and so great differences arc discernible in the writings; in particular, the older books give us a different ideal of God and teach different ethics, from the later. Men can no longer shut their eyes to this fact; the wonder is that for ages they were able so completely to ignore it. Book The Fundamental Doctrines of the Christian Faith

Download or read book The Fundamental Doctrines of the Christian Faith written by Reuben Archer Torrey and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 1918 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of these sermons has had a feeling for a long time that the great need in our churches in this day is systematic indoctrination. He put his theory into practice last winter in his own church, and these sermons are the result. We were having a great many accessions to our church. In the two years of the church's history we had had something like six hundred accessions to the church, and every month considerable numbers of new members were being added. While many of these came by letter from other churches, many of them were new converts and had had practically no systematic instruction in the fundamental truths of the Christian faith, so we announced a series of sermons on The Fundamental Doctrines of the Christian Faith. There was immediately a large increase in the attendance at the services where these addresses were given, and this increase has kept up until on the last Lord's Day we had much the largest attendance we have ever had, excepting on Easter Sunday. Many have testified to the blessing received from these sermons, and there has been a great demand that the sermons be printed for general circulation. This request has come from ministers of various denominations, Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Methodists, Baptists, and others. It is hoped that this volume will be useful to other pastors in suggesting lines of teaching in their regular pastoral work, and also that it may be used widely by pastors and others for circulation among Christians. We live in a day in which many of our church members are all at sea as to what they believe on the fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith. These sermons have already helped many through their delivery. It is hoped they will reach and help far more in the printed form.

Book A Primer of the Christian Religion

Download or read book A Primer of the Christian Religion written by George Holley Gilbert and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-07-12 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Primer of the Christian Religion: Based on the Teaching of Jesus, Its Founder and Living Lord To that voice the apostles gave heed, and regarded no other. To that voice they also have given heed who, in the long and weary struggle to realize the kingdom of heaven on the earth, have spoken words and done deeds that have scattered new light and given fresh courage to the hearts of men. To that divine voice it is our duty to listen, and then boldly to live out and to speak out what we have heard. No man or body of men can listen to Jesus for us; we must listen for ourselves. No council of the dead Past or of the Present has a right to come between us and Jesus Christ and say that it has listened for us, and that thus or thus must we believe. We owe it to Jesus that no voices of men, howsoever holy and learned, shall be allowed to drown or in the slightest degree confuse that clear voice of His, which will one day be heard in judgment as it is now heard in accents of divine grace. Book The Religion of Jesus and the Faith of Paul

Download or read book The Religion of Jesus and the Faith of Paul written by Adolf Deissmann and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-23 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Religion of Jesus and the Faith of Paul: The Selly Oak Lectures, 1923, on the Communion of Jesus With God and the Communion of Paul With Christ These lectures were delivered in February and March 1923 in the Weoley Hill Church, Selly Oak, at the invitation of the Selly Oak Colleges (woodbrooke, Kingsmead, Westhill, Fircroft, and Carey Hall). They are now published without any essential alteration. I did not give the two courses one after the other, but alternating with one another; nevertheless they will be more easily under stood if read as here printed, one after the other. As my St. Paul (hodder Stoughton, 1912) has long been out of print, I have in the Paul course taken over many passages from that book; this may serve as a sub stitute for the larger work until it is possible for me to publish a new edition of it. Book Foundational Principles of Christianity

Download or read book Foundational Principles of Christianity written by Adalbert Oneke Tanyi and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013-01-17 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foundational Principles of Christianity is about a return to the Word, which incorporates the basic tenets of the New Testament. In this book, Adalbert Tanyi urges believers to once more examine the depth of their roots in the Word so as to be in conformity with the demands of the Kingdom and to avoid the strange doctrines which are so predominant in the twenty-first century. The principles outlined in this book are each backed by Scripture. Written in simple everyday language and illustrated with day-to-day examples, the book inspires the believer to understand and abide in sound doctrine. It can therefore serve as a handbook and reference during personal or group Bible studies. Aside from it being a teaching aid, the book is also an evangelistic tool, enlightening the unbeliever and guiding him in prayer at the foot of the cross. Rev. Hal Rahman, missionary in Cameroon, Africa. Founder of the Cameroon Bible Training Centres

Book The Fundamentals of Christianity

Download or read book The Fundamentals of Christianity written by K.V. Anglin and published by Author House. This book was released on 2012-01-17 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God initially gave His Word to earth by way of the Jewish community, so that Jewish culture could be reflected in his Word throughout the world (rom. 3:1-2). This results in their translation of the Bible being the closest to his intention for mankind. For that reason I use The Complete Jewish Bible (CJB) as my text for this manuscript. CHRISTIANITY Christianity is not a religion. It is that type of being wherein the life of Jesus Christ is portrayed in and through the life of another person. It originates from the term Christ, which means The Anointed. Originally, Christ Jesus was the image of God's person (Heb.l:3), but was now anointed to carry out two missions. 1) To become the prototype for man, and 2) to bring man into conformity to his own person, thus making man the image of God (Rom.8:28-30). The process of redemption effects in man the transformation that renders him a new creature (2Cor.5:14-21; GaI.2:19-20). Redemption is possible only through faith in the shed blood of Christ. Having gone through this process one becomes a Christian and his lifestyle is Christianity. It is therefore not a religion but it supersedes religion.
