This book was released on 2015-07-16 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fundamental Ideas of Christianity, Vol. 2 In the second place, it is only another form of the same theogy of negation or limitation according to which the source of evil is supposed to lie, not simply in the finite, but more particularly in the sensuous nature of man, or in the conflict which necessarily arises between the flesh and the spirit, the sensuous and the rational elements of man's nature. Embodiment in a corporeal nature is the necessary condition of the individuality of each finite Spirit; and, according to this theory, it is not the finite spirit simply as finite, but the relation of the finite spirit to its material or fleshly embodiment, which hinders it from becoming the pure organ of the divine or infinite spirit, and which creates that negative element in man's nature which is the essence of evil. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fundamental Ideas of Christianity, Vol. 1 I have undertaken with much hesitation to write a short sketch of my brother's life, as an intro duction to his Gifford Lectures. In doing so, I have to remember that he was a man of much reserve, which even after his death I am bound to respect; and that for a long time my relations with him were so close and intimate, that it is probably impossible for me to see him as others saw him. Also his life was uneventful, and the materials in the way of correspondence which are at my disposal are not large. Some of his friends noticed this, and urged him to give it permanent form; inti mating, indeed, in the event of his refusal, an idea of doing it for him. He thought it much better to be his own editor, especially as important portions oi' the discussion were in the form of unpublished manuscript; and other connecting links, absolutely indispensable, must be prepared with caution, and Special adaptation to a general plan. This book was released on 2017-12-26 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fundamentals of Christianity a Study of the Teaching of Jesus and Paul This book will not attempt formal proof of the foregoing propositions. They will only incidentally, and almost accidentally, furnish subject of discussion. T hey are the fundamental data on which the entire discussion proceeds; so nearly axiomatic, in the author's View, that the mere statement of them should secure hearty assent from the thoughtful Christian reader. Indeed, his fear is that more readers will pronounce them truisms than untruths. But it is only fair to give warning that any reader who seriously dissents from them will do well to lay the book aside at this point, as it would probably be pure waste of time and mental energy for him to read further. For if these fundamentals are untrue, or even doubtful, the following pages are worthless. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Truth of the Christian Religion Vol 2 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Truth of the Christian Religion Vol 2 Classic Reprint written by Julius Kaftan and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-07-22 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Truth of the Christian Religion, Vol. 2 What must determine this choice is the circumstance that we are seeking to come to an understanding with others, or, if it is by any means possible, with all. To this assertion it may no doubt be objected, that sometimes the solitary thinker seeks the truth for him self and only for himself, without being concerned about coming to such an understanding with others. But the Objection is Of no moment. In the first place, it may fairly be asked whether the impulse to com municate truth does not naturally grow out Of the search for it and the discovery Of it; whether it is not a case as rare as it is abnormal, if that does not occur in any way; whether, indeed, there is truth at all for the individual as such, since what the word denotes really exists from the nature of it for every one, and is meant to exist for every one. But above all it would be advisable even for the solitary thinker to seek the truth which he craves only for himself, just as if he wanted to come to an understanding with all mankind and to convince all. If he fails to do so, he may rest assured that instead Of finding truth he will find error. He takes with him on his career a sure guarantee Of that as a matter Of course, in the form Of his own likes and dislikes; and he does not want to do that, we may be sure, if he is really concerned about the truth. Thus it cannot but be the case that the purpose Of coming to an understanding with others, and if possible with all, must decide as to the choice Of the starting-point.
