On such occasions we have Opportuni ties of judging the effect of these conditions upon (a) the air density in the cavity and (é) the concavity of the membrana tympani Both of these conditions of the eustachian tube are very favorable for this investigation, as they can be temporarily overcome, so that the hearing may be increased equal to or beyond the patient's usual acuteness. The phenomena Observed during the patent condition of this pas sage, if carefully examined, demonstrate certain facts that appear to question the correctness of the deglutition method of supplying air to the middle ear.
