Book excerpt: After five years of loving food on a budget, the Frugal Food Girls were fed up. We were at the end of our Dietetic Internship and Master's Degree program, which meant we had no money, no time, and no energy. Meal planning takes a lot of time and effort, but wasting food is both unsustainable and expensive, especially when cooking for one. We realized we weren't the only people with this problem, so we decided to spend the last bit of our time and energy creating this book. Both of us have degrees in Nutrition and Dietetics; Ellyn with an emphasis in Culinary Arts and Carla with an emphasis in Food Innovation and Entrepreneurship. With backgrounds in both nutrition and culinary arts, our love for food runs deep. We bring you this book not only so you can save the planet and learn to cook, but so you can enjoy food like we do. This book includes some of our favorite ingredients and recipes created by us for you. It contains four weeks of simple dinner recipes. At the beginning of each Week, we provide you with a grocery list that includes all of the items you will need for those meals. We also include a Pantry List with items that are useful to have at all times and some basic cooking tips for new Chefs. Our hope for you is that these recipes help you to reconnect with food, or at least save you money for a month.

Book excerpt: "Food: The Key Concepts presents an exciting, coherent and interdisciplinary introduction to food studies for the beginning reader. Food Studies is an increasingly complex field, drawing on disciplines as diverse as Sociology, Anthropology and Cultural Studies at one end and Economics, Politics and Agricultural Science at the other. In order to clarify the issues, Food: The Key Concepts distills food choices down to three competing considerations: consumer identity; matters of convenience and price; and an awareness of the consequences of what is consumed. The book concludes with an examination of two very different future scenarios for feeding the world's population: the technological fix, which looks to science to provide the solution to our future food needs; and the anthropological fix, which hopes to change our expectations and behaviors. Throughout, the analysis is illustrated with lively case studies. Bulleted chapter summaries, questions and guides to further reading are also provided."--P. [4] of cover.

This link, which applies cross-culturally, has seldom been fully acknowledged or celebrated. This book presents a wide-ranging, interdiscplinary and comprehensive feminist analysis of women’s central role in many aspects of the world’s food systems and cultures. This central role is examined through a range of lenses, namely cross-cultural, intergenerational, and socially diverse.

Once in London she meets Tilly, a features editor, and her long-term boyfriend and wildlife photographer Henry, who is finding it hard to commit. Before long, Gillion inadvertently offers Henry an escape: the chance to travel to South Carolina and photograph its wildlife. Upon arriving, Henry is wholly seduced by the charms of Charleston, by Gillon's family, and by the old patrician way of life which presents itself.
