Book The Formation of Nitric Nitrogen Oxides in Firebox Processes During Gas Combustion

Download or read book The Formation of Nitric Nitrogen Oxides in Firebox Processes During Gas Combustion written by I. Ya Sigal and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The conditions of nitric oxide formation in the combustion of fuel in boiler fireboxes were examined and equations were obtained for the evaluational determination of the NO output in the combustion zone. It was demonstrated, that under the conditions characteristic for a firebox process, the synthesis of nitric oxide takes place during combustion in the section from the beginning of the combustion zone up to the region of maximum temperature. The concentration of nitric oxide in the combustion products depends on the level and the distribution of the maximum temperatures in the firebox and the concentration of free oxygen in the zone of these temperatures. The final NO output in the flame tongue processes is indirectly connected with the process of hydrocarbon fuel combustion.

Book Chemical Kinetic Models for Combustion of Hydrocarbons and Formation of Nitric Oxide

Download or read book Chemical Kinetic Models for Combustion of Hydrocarbons and Formation of Nitric Oxide written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-08-13 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The formation of nitrogen oxides NOx during combustion of methane, propane, and a jet fuel, JP-4, was investigated in a jet stirred combustor. The results of the experiments were interpreted using reaction models in which the nitric oxide (NO) forming reactions were coupled to the appropriate hydrocarbon combustion reaction mechanisms. Comparison between the experimental data and the model predictions reveals that the CH + N2 reaction process has a significant effect on NO formation especially in stoichiometric and fuel rich mixtures. Reaction models were assembled that predicted nitric oxide levels that were in reasonable agreement with the jet stirred combustor data and with data obtained from a high pressure (5.9 atm (0.6 MPa)), prevaporized, premixed, flame tube type combustor. The results also suggested that the behavior of hydrocarbon mixtures, like JP-4, may not be significantly different from that of pure hydrocarbons. Application of the propane combustion and nitric oxide formation model to the analysis of NOx emission data reported for various aircraft gas turbines showed the contribution of the various nitric oxide forming processes to the total NOx formed. Book Nitrogen Oxide Formation from Chemically bound Nitrogen During the Combustion of Fossil Fuels Extended Zeldovich Reactions

Download or read book Nitrogen Oxide Formation from Chemically bound Nitrogen During the Combustion of Fossil Fuels Extended Zeldovich Reactions written by and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the many problems associated with the firing of fossil fuels is the impact on the ambient levels of nitrogen oxides. Since the use of coals, oils and coal-derived fuels is expected to triple by 1985, it is urgent that the formation of nitrogen oxides from molecular nitrogen and organo-nitrogen species be fully characterized so that emission abatement strategies can be formulated. The thermal fixation of atmospheric nitrogen and the free radical reactions of nitrogenous species are the sources of NO3 The fixation reactions can be described by the extended Zeldovich mechanism, and techniques such as staged combustion and flue gas recirculation have been employed to reduce combustion temperatures and, hence, thermally formed NO. These techniques have had little effect, however, on the conversion of chemically-bound nitrogen to NO3 The fate of chemically-bound nitrogen depends upon such factors as the nitrogen content of the fuel and the equivalence ratio and upon the physical processes governing combustion. Research is proposed to establish the kinetic processes involved in the conversion of fuel nitrogen to NO and N2 in environments characteristic of fossil fuel combustion and to identify those conditions which favor the reduction of NO to N2.

Book Nitric Oxide Formation in Combustion Processes with Strong Recirculation

Download or read book Nitric Oxide Formation in Combustion Processes with Strong Recirculation written by U. S. Environmental Protection Agency and published by BiblioGov. This book was released on 2013-07 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was introduced on December 2, 1970 by President Richard Nixon. The agency is charged with protecting human health and the environment, by writing and enforcing regulations based on laws passed by Congress. The EPA's struggle to protect health and the environment is seen through each of its official publications. These publications outline new policies, detail problems with enforcing laws, document the need for new legislation, and describe new tactics to use to solve these issues. This collection of publications ranges from historic documents to reports released in the new millennium, and features works like: Bicycle for a Better Environment, Health Effects of Increasing Sulfur Oxides Emissions Draft, and Women and Environmental Health.

Book Nitric Oxide Formation and Modelling Uncertainty from Exhaust gas diluted Methane Flames

Download or read book Nitric Oxide Formation and Modelling Uncertainty from Exhaust gas diluted Methane Flames written by Antonio Lipardi and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Nitrogen oxides (NOx) are pollutants emitted by various combustion processes that are subject to increasingly-stringent regulations due to their impact on human health and the environment. Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) has been shown to reduce NOx emissions by decreasing the oxygen concentration and, for a given heat release, reducing peak flame temperatures. Previous simulated combustion results (at a constant burning temperature) have demonstrated that EGR dilution may generate an NO minimization range governed by an increase in the prompt NO formation and a decrease in the thermal NO rate. However, this range is not predicted by all combustion models, thereby necessitating its experimental validation. This thesis conveys the constant burning temperature effects of EGR on NOx formation and the modelling performance of three thermochemical mechanisms (Gri-Mech 3.0, San-Diego 2005, and Combustion Science and Engineering). Using NO planar laser-induced fluorescence (NO-PLIF) and particle tracking velocimetry (PTV), constant burning temperature (1850K and 2000K) measurements of nitric oxide (NO-PLIF), temperature (NO-PLIF), and flame reactivity (PTV) were performed on methane-air flames with (and without) EGR dilution using a counterflow apparatus. These results confirmed the existence of the EGR-induced NO minimization range. However, this interesting engine design constraint was obscured by the high level of variability (factor of approx. 4) and uncertainty (up to 99%) found in the simulated NO profiles. A reduced set of reactions that may serve as a basis for the optimization process of the investigated NO submodels is also presented." --
