Book Assessment in Art Therapy

Download or read book Assessment in Art Therapy written by Andrea Gilroy and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-03-15 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Assessment in Art Therapy gives a unique insight into the diverse contemporary practices that constitute assessment in art therapy, providing an overview of the different approaches employed in Britain and the USA today. This professional handbook comprises three parts. 'Sitting Beside' explores the discursive and the relational in art therapy assessments with adults and children in different settings. 'Snapshots from the Field' presents a series of short, practice-based reports which describe art therapists working in private practice, secure settings and community mental health centres. 'A More Distant Calculation' consists of chapters that describe the development and use of different kinds of art-based assessment procedures developed on both sides of the Atlantic, as well as different kinds of research about art therapy assessment. Both students and practitioners alike will benefit from the wealth of experience presented in this book, which demonstrates how art therapists think about assessment; the difficulties that arise in art therapy assessment; and the importance of developing the theory and practice of art therapy assessment, whilst taking into account the changing demands of systems and institutions.

Book Determining the Validity of the Formal Elements Art Therapy Scale in Screening for Anxiety in the Elderly

Download or read book Determining the Validity of the Formal Elements Art Therapy Scale in Screening for Anxiety in the Elderly written by Seana Friez and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anxiety in the elderly is under researched. Current anxiety measures were developed using younger populations and lack validity of using an art therapy assessment tool (Formal Elements Art Therapy Scale: FEATS) (Gantt & Tabone, 1998) to measure anxiety in the elderly. Twenty-eight elderly participated in the study, nineteen tested in a group setting, and eight in one-on-one sessions. Results indicate FEATS is a valid measure of anxiety when administered on an individual basis, to persons for whom anxiety has been made salient. Future research should restrict the use of FEATS to one-on-one testing sessions. Additionally, the influence of priming anxiety should be further investigated.

Book The Effectiveness of the Formal Elements of Art Therapy Scale for Assessing Depression in Adults with Chronic Mental Illness

Download or read book The Effectiveness of the Formal Elements of Art Therapy Scale for Assessing Depression in Adults with Chronic Mental Illness written by Cassandra Tucker and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of Formal Elements Art Therapy Scale (FEATS) ratings of Draw a Person Picking an Apple from a Tree" (PPAT) drawings to assess for depression in chronic mental patients recovering in a social rehabilitation clubhouse setting. Thirty participants (n=15 male and n=15 female) were recruited on a voluntary basis to participate in this study. The FEATS ratings were compared to results of the Beck's Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II). It was hypothesized that the art assessment technique (PPAT) rated with the FEATS would be as effective as the widely used and reliable assessment scale (BDI-II) in determining a participant's level of depression. Results did not support the hypothesis in that correlations between the FEATS and the BDI-II are weak and mostly positive.

Book Correlation Study of the Formal Elements Art Therapy Scale and the Beck s Depression Inventory as Measures of Depression

Download or read book Correlation Study of the Formal Elements Art Therapy Scale and the Beck s Depression Inventory as Measures of Depression written by Lucille Payne and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Art based assessments tools have been used over the past decades to measure psychological symptoms and patterns associated with mental illness. This correlation study used the Formal Elements Art Therapy Scale (FEATS) ratings with the Person Picking an Apple From A Tree drawing and the Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI) as measurements of depression. Seven of the fourteen FEATS elements most conducive to depression were correlated with the BDI. Overall there was a positive correlation between the BDI and two of the seven FEATS elements. Additional significance was found when the scores for males and females were analyzed separately, and also with those participants who did not carry an additional diagnosis of substance abuse.
