Book excerpt: What you are about to read is a fictional gay love story called "The Forbidden Scroll." It is the love story between Terryn of Cole, a scribe, and his relationship with Prince Florian of Deira. Terryn was instructed by the Prince to translate a scroll that had the words "Forbidden" written upon it. The contents of the scroll is sexual in nature and causes the two young men to question their sexuality. NOTE: The story is based upon some factual "forbidden" text. There are excepts from the original translated copy which are inserted into this story. During the middle ages, monks purposely sought illiterate young men who they could train to copy images ( in the form of letters) but not be able to read what they saw because it was from the forbidden scroll. In 1557, Pope Paul IV compiled and created the Index Librorum Prohibitorum (the Index of Forbidden Books). The Index of Forbidden Books were a list of books all christians were prohibited from reading or even owning except under special ecclesiastical permission. This scroll was listed on the Index of Forbidden Books and an unedited translation of the scroll is included at the end of this story for all to read.

Book excerpt: One man’s quest to find the oldest Bible scrolls in the world and uncover the story of the brilliant, doomed antiquarian accused of forging them. In the summer of 1883, Moses Wilhelm Shapira—archaeological treasure hunter and inveterate social climber—showed up unannounced in London claiming to have discovered the oldest copy of the Bible in the world. But before the museum could pony up his £1 million asking price for the scrolls—which discovery called into question the divine authorship of the scriptures—Shapira’s nemesis, the French archaeologist Charles Clermont-Ganneau, denounced the manuscripts, turning the public against him. Distraught over this humiliating public rebuke, Shapira fled to the Netherlands and committed suicide. Then, in 1947 the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. Noting the similarities between these and Shapira’s scrolls, scholars made efforts to re-examine Shapira’s case, but it was too late: the primary piece of evidence, the parchment scrolls themselves had mysteriously vanished. Tigay, journalist and son of a renowned Biblical scholar, was galvanized by this peculiar story and this indecipherable man, and became determined to find the scrolls. He sets out on a quest that takes him to Australia, England, Holland, Germany where he meets Shapira’s still aggrieved descendants and Jerusalem where Shapira is still referred to in the present tense as a “Naughty boy”. He wades into museum storerooms, musty English attics, and even the Jordanian gorge where the scrolls were said to have been found all in a tireless effort to uncover the truth about the scrolls and about Shapira, himself. At once historical drama and modern-day mystery, The Lost Book of Moses explores the nineteenth-century disappearance of Shapira’s scrolls and Tigay's globetrotting hunt for the ancient manuscript. As it follows Tigay’s trail to the truth, the book brings to light a flamboyant, romantic, devious, and ultimately tragic personality in a story that vibrates with the suspense of a classic detective tale.

Book Secret Scrolls

    Book Details:
  • Author : Robert M. Price
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2010-12-27
  • ISBN : 1610970756
  • Pages : 359 pages

Download or read book Secret Scrolls written by Robert M. Price and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2010-12-27 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Secret Scrolls is the very first examination of some forty novels in which someone discovers a new gospel. Sometimes it turns out to be a hoax; will it be debunked before it can work its mischief? If it proves genuine, will it be brought to light? Or will corrupt church officials manage to prevent it? The book evaluates what each author has to say about historical Jesus scholarship or New Testament research in general. Sometimes the authors have done their homework; other times they haven't bothered, and they wind up dishing up crazy rewrites of history and outlandish theories. These novels deal with abiding issues of faith, even without some new discovery. As soon as one engages in biblical apologetics, one has stepped onto the marshy ground of probabilistic arguments, an entirely different epistemology that automatically replaces simple faith. And so one comes to hold one's religious convictions more tentatively, having become genuinely vulnerable to new evidence. One may not remain a believer for long. On the other hand, one invites fanaticism if one's faith is dangerously predicated on the assurance that no new discovery will send one back to the drawing board. Secret Scrolls assesses what each author imagines it would take to derail and debunk Christianity. How mighty a blow must be dealt before the religion would fall? Dan Brown's notion that a married Jesus would debunk the Nicene Creed is laughable. As Wilbert Francis Howard once argued in his brief and fascinating history of New Testament research, there is a genuine romance of New Testament scholarship, and many of us are delighted to have the adventure continue in the speculative imaginations of capable novelists. These books can both entertain and educate, and so will Secret Scrolls.

Eminent scientist Richard Dawkins produced the clips several years ago. There has been some reviews done on these videos in the past. Each time a comment has been made--it is from either side of the 'fence.' What makes this book so different; is that I am neither a religious-fundamentalist nor a scientist. One day, we may see a follow-up video. The purpose of this book is to chip away at your worldview. Many believe that the religions of this world actually read and follow an instruction book; however, that is definitely not the case. I invite you to challenge your worldview. Come along for the ride and take a fresh look at the world's "number one bestseller."

Book Forbidden Religion

Download or read book Forbidden Religion written by J. Douglas Kenyon and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2006-09-22 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reveals the thread that unites the spiritual paths that have opposed orthodox religion over the centuries and the challenge they provide to the status quo • Contains 40 essays by 18 key investigators of heresies and suppressed spiritual traditions, including Steven Sora, Ian Lawton, Jeff Nisbet, P.M.H. Atwater, John Chambers, and Vincent Bridges • Edited by Atlantis Rising publisher, J. Douglas Kenyon Following the model of his bestselling Forbidden History, J. Douglas Kenyon has assembled from his bi-monthly journal Atlantis Rising material that explores the hidden path of the religions banned by the orthodox Church--from the time before Christ when the foundations of Christianity were being laid to the tumultuous times of the Cathars and Templars and the Masons of the New World. Revealed in this investigation of the roots of Western faith are the intimate ties of ancient Egyptian religion to Christianity, the true identities of the three magi, the link forged by the Templars between early Christianity and the Masons, and how these hidden religious currents still influence the modern world. This book serves as a compelling introduction to the true history of the heretical religious traditions that played as vital a role in society as the established faiths that continuously tried to suppress them. Born in the same religious ferment that gave birth to Christianity, these spiritual paths survived in the “heresies” of the Middle Ages, and in the theories of the great Renaissance thinkers and their successors, such as Isaac Newton and Giordano Bruno. Brought to the New World by the Masons who inspired the American Revolution, the influence of these forbidden religions can be still found today in “The Star Spangled Banner” and in such Masonic symbols as the pyramid on the back of the dollar bill.

  • Author : W. Milton Timmons
  • Publisher : AuthorHouse
  • Release : 2016-12-07
  • ISBN : 1524652717

Download or read book The Scroll Seekers written by W. Milton Timmons and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-12-07 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This historical novel recounts the second-century adventures of the patriarch Bishop Irenaeus, from the little Roman colony of Lugdunum, as he collects and evaluates all the scrolls that would eventually become the New Testament. An enormous amount of research on the origins of the Bible has accumulated over the last few decades, and the purpose of this book is to bring that material to life through dramatization. The skeptical philosopher Demetrios and the four bodyguards are fictitious. But Irenaeus and his book Against Heresy, the status of the church, the details of Roman life, and all the scrolls collected by our characters are factual.
