These structures were part of an influx of semi nomadic settlements that suddenly appeared in the Jordan Valley during the early Iron Age.This influx was attributed by Professor Zertal to the Israelite invasion foretold in the book of Joshua.After researching these monuments, Zertal came to the conclusion that they are the early cultic sites of the Israelites described in the Bible as Gilgal.
