Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Food We Live By We can't all be marines, soldiers, sailors, wacs, or waves. We can't all ferry bombers across the ocean. A lot of us can't go into war industries because we are too young or too old. But nevertheless everyone in America today has a war job to do! We must eat right to be strong, conserve the food we have, and share it with our fighting men and our allies. It is up to every person in the United States to put himself into the best possible physical condition so that he can do his task, whatever it is, more effectively. The doctors have their hands full the nursing profession is taxed to the limit. We must help them conserve their time by staying well. We can make a very real contribution to the war effort if every one of us sees to it that he is strong and healthy so that he can do more and better work and keep cheerful. Book The Food That God Intends for Man Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Food That God Intends for Man Classic Reprint written by Oliver William Morley and published by . This book was released on 2017-07-16 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Food That God Intends for ManOf these two ways of thinking about the Bible, which is right? There is a law that decides it, namely: There are two kinds of all created things, a good and bad. Every good thing has its Oppo site in a bad thing of the same kind and they are enemies. Every good plant that is useful to man has its opposite in weeds that are an abomination to man; and every good animal that is useful to man has, its opposite in beasts of prey that are anbetween right and wrong. The Creator does not say which way man shall choose; He leaves it for him to choose and rewards and punishes him according to his choice. Animals have no knowledge of good and evil, nor power to choose; they do the will of man because they are obliged to. As man has this knowledge and power he must do the will of the Creator from choice, and acknowledge the Creator his master from choice. As it is impossible for man to acknowledge anything his master (from choice without loving that object more than himself he must love his Creator with all his being. How does the Creator require man to feel toward his neighbor? Man desires horses to be peaceable and not agitate each other so that they can be useful to him. If any try to right those around them he does not want the others to fight back, but to be quiet and let him take care of the unruly ones. There is no reason to suppose that the Creator requires less of man. He requires man to love his neigh bor as himself because he cannot live in peace unless he does, and if any neighbor takes it upon himself to illtreat another, that one is not to illtreat in return and destroy the usefulness of both to their Creator, but to keep his peace and maintain his relationship to his Creator and let Him take care of the disobe dient one. So it is clear that the first duty of man is to love his Creator with all his being; the next is to love his neighbor as himself, and the next is not to render evil for evil. So the spirit of the Creator teaches what Christ taught. Then see the effect of Christ's teaching upon man. All the good there is in the world has come from it. See the difference between those who have had the benefit of it and those who have not. It is the forerunner of all progress. See the truth of it verified at the death of His followers. The expression in their countenance is beyond the power of man to describe; only those who have seen it have seen the most wonderful work of God. It is not seen in the countenance of all who die professing to believe in Christ, but it is seen in some, and if He is not Divine, how does it come?About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Food and Life Classic Reprint

Download or read book Food and Life Classic Reprint written by Marion Florence Lansing and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-17 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Food and Life From its pages the child will learn the facts he should know concerning the great Food Business into which he is born and in which he is a partner. He will be led to see the need of his becoming an intelligent and active partner. He will come into a sense of the world brotherhood which is the hope of the future. The ethical side is often more natural to the child than the technical details. There is hardly a virtue or an ideal of family, community, and world life which does not take a natural place in a study of the fundamental human problem of food. The actual facts are most interesting when presented simply and entertainingly. Knowledge recently contributed by science has made this a new subject, and one far more readily grasped by boys and girls than it could have been five or even two years ago. With a sufficient amount of information to make the book a c'omplete and satisfying whole, the aim has been to suggest as well as to inform. From this book the child goes to the geography lesson, to the physiology and domestic-science class, to the garden, to the store, and to the home with a newly awakened interest. Not only does he know knowing, he is stimulated at each point to do. The chapters will serve their purpose best if the knowledge each imparts is a stimulus, not an end. Together they provide the necessary background of information, education, and inspiration for the child's life as it relates to and is interpreted by his food.
