Book The First Systems of Weighted Differential and Integral Calculus

Download or read book The First Systems of Weighted Differential and Integral Calculus written by Jane Grossman and published by Non-Newtonian Calculus. This book was released on 1980 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains how each non-Newtonian calculus, as well as the classical calculus of Newton and Leibniz, can be 'weighted' in a natural way. In each of these weighted calculi, a weighted average (of functions) plays a central role. The weighted calculi provide a wide variety of mathematical tools for use in science, engineering, and mathematics. They appear to have considerable potential for use as alternatives to the classical calculus. It may well be that they can be used to define new concepts, to yield new or simpler laws, or to formulate or solve problems.

Book The First Nonlinear System of Differential and Integral Calculus

Download or read book The First Nonlinear System of Differential and Integral Calculus written by Michael Grossman and published by Non-Newtonian Calculus. This book was released on 1979 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book contains a detailed account of the first non-Newtonian calculus. In this system, the exponential functions play the role that the linear functions play in the classical calculus of Newton and Leibniz. This nonlinear system provides mathematical tools for use in science, engineering, and mathematics. It appears to have considerable potential for use as an alternative to the classical calculus. It may well be that this non-Newtonian calculus can be used to define new concepts, to yield new or simpler laws, or to formulate or solve problems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a detailed account of the bigeometric calculus, a non-Newtonian calculus in which the power functions play the role that the linear functions play in the classical calculus of Newton and Leibniz. This nonlinear system provides mathematical tools for use in science, engineering, and mathematics. It appears to have considerable potential for use as an alternative to the classical calculus. It may well be that the bigeometric calculus can be used to define new concepts, to yield new or simpler laws, or to formulate or solve problems.

Book excerpt: This book describes systems of calculus, called meta-calculi, that arose from the problem of measuring stock-price performance when taking all intermediate prices into consideration. The meta-calculi provide mathematical tools for use in science, engineering, and mathematics. They appear to have potential for use as alternatives to the classical calculus of Newton and Leibniz. It may well be that they can be used to define new concepts, to yield new or simpler laws, or to formulate or solve problems.

Book excerpt: This book concerns the averages of functions that arise in the development of non-Newtonian calculus and weighted non-Newtonian calculus, and an interesting family of means of two positive numbers. These averages and means provide a wide variety of mathematical tools for use in science, engineering, and mathematics. It may well be that they can be used to define new concepts, to yield new or simpler laws, or to formulate or solve problems.

Book Differential and Integral Calculus

Download or read book Differential and Integral Calculus written by Augustus De Morgan and published by Cosimo, Inc.. This book was released on 2007-04-01 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this early textbook by mathematician Augustus De Morgan and first published in 1836, serious students of math will find useful lessons, explanations, and diagrams. Math and math textbooks of his time were found to be generally inaccessible to the public at large, so De Morgan, who believed that everyone should be educated in mathematics because it was so essential to science and modern life, relies on simple, straightforward, and easy-to-understand language, despite the depth of his topic. Among the areas covered here are: infinitely small quantities, infinite series, ratios of continuously increasing or decreasing quantities, and algebraical geometry.British mathematician Augustus De Morgan (1806-1871) invented the term mathematical induction. Among his many published works is Trigonometry and Double Algebra and A Budget of Paradoxes.

Book A First Course in the Differential and Integral Calculus

Download or read book A First Course in the Differential and Integral Calculus written by William F. Osgood and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-04 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A First Course in the Differential and Integral Calculus The treatment of the calculus that here follows is based on the courses which I have given in this subject in Harvard College for a number of years and corresponds in its main outlines to the course as given by Professor B. O. Peirce in the early eighties. The introduction of the integral as the limit of a sum at an early stage is due to Professor Byerly, who made this important change more than a dozen years ago. Professor Byerly, moreover, was a pioneer in this country in teaching the calculus by means of problems, his work in this direction dating from the seventies. The chief characteristics of the treatment are the close touch between the calculus and those problems of physics, including geometry, to which it owed its origin; and the simplicity and directness with which the principles of the calculus are set forth. It is important that the formal side of the calculus should be thoroughly taught in a first course, and great stress has been laid on this side. But nowhere do the ideas that underlie the calculus come out more clearly than in its applications to curve tracing and the study of curves and surfaces, in definite integrals with their varied applications to physics and geometry, and in mechanics. For this reason these subjects have been taken up at an early stage and illustrated by many examples not usually found in American text-books. It is exceedingly difficult to cover in a first course in the calculus all the subjects that claim a place there.
