He was living in Burke County, North Carolina, in 1800. His son, William Roberts, Jr. (ca. 1760-after 1840), a Revolutionary War soldier, settled with his father in Burke County before 1790. He took up land in Buncombe County, North Carolina, 1795-1798, then later moved to Tennessee, then to Yancy County, North Carolina, where he was living in 1840. His grandson, James Allen Roberts (1828-1896), was born in Buncombe County, North Carolina He married Eliza Jane Davis (1832-1901) in 1852 at Marshall, North Carolina. They settled on Sweet Water Creek in Madison County. They had eleven children, 1854-1877. Descendants listed lived in North Carolina and elsewhere.

He was the son of Maxwell Wilson Connelly (1850-1922) who descended from an early North Carolina family. The Connellys settled in North Carolina before 1785 and married into several prominent families. The Baird family originated in Scotland and immigrated to New Jersey in the early 1700s. By the mid-1700s they had moved to North Carolina. The Daniel family was an early Virginia family which later settled in North Carolina where they too intermarried with the Connelly and other families. Descendants live in the United States.
