Book The First Nonlinear System of Differential and Integral Calculus

Download or read book The First Nonlinear System of Differential and Integral Calculus written by Michael Grossman and published by Non-Newtonian Calculus. This book was released on 1979 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book contains a detailed account of the first non-Newtonian calculus. In this system, the exponential functions play the role that the linear functions play in the classical calculus of Newton and Leibniz. This nonlinear system provides mathematical tools for use in science, engineering, and mathematics. It appears to have considerable potential for use as an alternative to the classical calculus. It may well be that this non-Newtonian calculus can be used to define new concepts, to yield new or simpler laws, or to formulate or solve problems.

Book Introduction to Nonlinear Differential and Integral Equations

Download or read book Introduction to Nonlinear Differential and Integral Equations written by Harold T. Davis and published by Martino Fine Books. This book was released on 2014-10-21 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2014 Reprint of 1960 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition. Not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. Within recent years interest in nonlinear equations has grown enormously. They are extremely important as basic equations in many areas of mathematical physics, and they have received renewed attention because of progress in their solution by machines. This volume undertakes a definition of the field, indicating advances that have been made up through 1960. The author's position is that while the advent of machines has resulted in much new knowledge, one should not disregard analytical methods, since the solution of nonlinear equations possesses singularities which only the analytical method (as based upon the work of Poincare, Liapounoff, Painleve and Goursatl can discover. After a general survey of the problem presented by nonlinear equations, the author discusses the differential equation of the first order, following this by chapters on the Riccati equation (as a bridge between linear and nonlinear equations) and existence theorems, with special reference to Cauchy's method. Second order equations are introduced via Volterra's problem and the problem of pursuit, and succeeding chapters cover elliptic integrals and functions and theta functions; differential equations of the second order; and second order differential equations of the polynomial class, with special reference to Painleve transcendents. The technique of continuous analytical continuation is shown, while phenomena of the phase plane are studied as an introduction to nonlinear mechanics.

Book Linear and Nonlinear Integral Equations

Download or read book Linear and Nonlinear Integral Equations written by Abdul-Majid Wazwaz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-11-24 with total page 639 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Linear and Nonlinear Integral Equations: Methods and Applications is a self-contained book divided into two parts. Part I offers a comprehensive and systematic treatment of linear integral equations of the first and second kinds. The text brings together newly developed methods to reinforce and complement the existing procedures for solving linear integral equations. The Volterra integral and integro-differential equations, the Fredholm integral and integro-differential equations, the Volterra-Fredholm integral equations, singular and weakly singular integral equations, and systems of these equations, are handled in this part by using many different computational schemes. Selected worked-through examples and exercises will guide readers through the text. Part II provides an extensive exposition on the nonlinear integral equations and their varied applications, presenting in an accessible manner a systematic treatment of ill-posed Fredholm problems, bifurcation points, and singular points. Selected applications are also investigated by using the powerful Padé approximants. This book is intended for scholars and researchers in the fields of physics, applied mathematics and engineering. It can also be used as a text for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in applied mathematics, science and engineering, and related fields. Dr. Abdul-Majid Wazwaz is a Professor of Mathematics at Saint Xavier University in Chicago, Illinois, USA.

Book Nonlinear Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems

Download or read book Nonlinear Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems written by Ferdinand Verhulst and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bridging the gap between elementary courses and the research literature in this field, the book covers the basic concepts necessary to study differential equations. Stability theory is developed, starting with linearisation methods going back to Lyapunov and Poincaré, before moving on to the global direct method. The Poincaré-Lindstedt method is introduced to approximate periodic solutions, while at the same time proving existence by the implicit function theorem. The final part covers relaxation oscillations, bifurcation theory, centre manifolds, chaos in mappings and differential equations, and Hamiltonian systems. The subject material is presented from both the qualitative and the quantitative point of view, with many examples to illustrate the theory, enabling the reader to begin research after studying this book.

Book Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations written by W. F. Ames and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations: A Symposium on Methods of Solution is a collection of papers presented at the seminar on methods of solution for nonlinear partial differential equations, held at the University of Delaware, Newark, Delaware on December 27-29, 1965. The sessions are divided into four Symposia: Analytic Methods, Approximate Methods, Numerical Methods, and Applications. Separating 19 lectures into chapters, this book starts with a presentation of the methods of similarity analysis, particularly considering the merits, advantages and disadvantages of the methods. The subsequent chapters describe the fundamental ideas behind the methods for the solution of partial differential equation derived from the theory of dynamic programming and from finite systems of ordinary differential equations. These topics are followed by reviews of the principles to the lubrication approximation and compressible boundary-layer flow computation. The discussion then shifts to several applications of nonlinear partial differential equations, including in electrical problems, two-phase flow, hydrodynamics, and heat transfer. The remaining chapters cover other solution methods for partial differential equations, such as the synergetic approach. This book will prove useful to applied mathematicians, physicists, and engineers.

Book Nonlinear Integral Equations in Abstract Spaces

Download or read book Nonlinear Integral Equations in Abstract Spaces written by Dajun Guo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-22 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many problems arising in the physical sciences, engineering, biology and ap plied mathematics lead to mathematical models described by nonlinear integral equations in abstract spaces. The theory of nonlinear integral equations in ab stract spaces is a fast growing field with important applications to a number of areas of analysis as well as other branches of science. This book is devoted to a comprehensive treatment of nonlinear integral equations in abstract spaces. It is the first book that is dedicated to a systematic development of this subject, and it includes the developments during recent years. Chapter 1 introduces some basic results in analysis, which will be used in later chapters. Chapter 2, which is a main portion of this book, deals with nonlin ear integral equations in Banach spaces, including equations of Fredholm type, of Volterra type and equations of Hammerstein type. Some applica equations tions to nonlinear differential equations in Banach spaces are given. We also discuss an integral equation modelling infectious disease as a typical applica tion. In Chapter 3, we investigate the first order and second order nonlinear integro-differential equations in Banach spaces including equations of Volterra type and equations of mixed type. Chapter 4 is devoted to nonlinear impulsive integral equations in Banach spaces and their applications to nonlinear impul sive differential equations in Banach spaces.
